    Capaldi's dark Doctor is chilling.
He absolutely nails to the wall "The Doctor is no longer here, you are stuck with me", and "You'll find it's a very small universe when I'm angry with you".

Clara’s death may seem sudden and just from one mistake, but her recklessness had been getting more extreme for a while. You can tell the Doctor is struggling because he feels responsible, and he is in part. Clara was starting to mimic the Doctor’s attitude and behaviour, but without his timelord abilities. He didn’t stop her.

Exactly. SHe's trying to be the Doctor, but she's more breakable than he is. There are clues going way back when you look for them. For example, in Flatline:
CLARA: "Come on, why can't you say it? I was the Doctor and I was good."
DOCTOR: "You were an exceptional Doctor, Clara."
      CLARA: "Thank you."
DOCTOR: "Goodness had nothing to do with it."

Since the shadow can't be taken, it must be given by the one who carrys it, if the one who takes it agrees to it.
Since Clara would not give it to the doctor he can't take it from her as much as he would like. And he knows it.

Clara is my favourite companion from New Who (Adric was my favourite from classic Who) so this was a heart-wrenching story. And I really love the choice they made to have Facing the Raven hurt (rather than the companion quietly slipping away off screen like Amy and Rory), and I love Jenna's performance.
    Such a good episode.

The music in this episode and the next two episodes is absolutely stunning. Augmenting exactly as it needs to, backing away in just the right places, swelling, then solos, then ominous. Murray Gold is the MVP

15:02 “and then the doctor will regenerate” keep in mind that the doctor can still die. If the death is absolute and quick then he will die. As seen in turn Left. I don’t think he’d be able to survive the raven as the death is instantaneous he wouldn’t have time to regenerate. Just something to remember. Regeneration is NOT immortality.
Broke my heart to see how you reacted to Clara’s scene. I remember crying so hard.

Joivan Wade (Rigsy) goes onto play DC superhero Cyborg in 'Doom Patrol' opposite Timothy Dalton (Rassilon) & Michelle Gomez (Missy).
That foreseer is Letitia Wright - Marvel's current (female) Black Panther.
One of things I like about the music is you hear a excerpt of Clara's theme but the end notes are played incorrectly.
If you become the Doctor, you die like the Doctor.

Love Jenna Coleman as Clara. She is definitely my number one companion of NuWho. Such a dramatic exit from a companion who was gradually acting more and more like the Doctor. She just ended up being more breakable.

Goodbye companion is one of those characters who had a separate opinion, made her own decisions and actions, where there was a feeling that we really were facing two different heroes and both thought differently and in their own way.
And not a companion who is simply an extension of the Doctor’s hand and thoughts, agreeing with everything and only helping him.
    Goodbye Clara

Ashildr says the contract has been broken. It seems to me like the deal is between Clara and the Raven, now. And Clara might not be able to do the same things with it that Ashildr can - we already know Ashildr could break a death sentence, for example.

    And... There goes my Clara . . . 😔
Tbh, I remember being already kinda traumatized by the teaser to this episode. That felt SO weird, I watched it for the first time when I was still pretty hungover (yeah, imagine that with Sleep No More 😅. )
I'd say in the end she was brave enough.
And speaking of unusual takes, I can definitely tell my own when it comes to the next two episodes. Very special episodes to my heart. But I'm mostly in the minority for that. I'll explain further later. For the most part, I hope you will be able to enjoy them. 👍

The story itself is fairly interesting, but I really didn't like Clara's recklessness. In a way it reminds me of what RTD did with Rose in Series 2: take an existing character flaw, run rampant with it, and then punish the character for it.
One thing they did right by Clara is the way she said goodbye to the Doctor, though.
It would probably be fair to say that fan opinion is split on Clara. A lot of fans dislike her. Some love her. I don't know which group is larger. Personally, I liked her sometimes but not at other times. Series 8 did a lot of damage to both her and this Doctor's characters in my view, so even in episodes when I liked one or the other it was a case of clawing back points that had previously been lost.
I'd rate this episode 3.5 out of 5

I saw the death coming, as Clara has had a death wish all season.
As for the Doctor not switching with Clara, he probably realised it would take a life, not a regeneration, so he would die also. In any case, the "baddies" had gone to a lot of trouble to capture him, they wouldn't be willing to allow him to commit suicide now.

Let me just say that people were shocked that this was happening and every moment made them cry and worry more.
    - Oh no, is this really happening?
    After some time:
    - Oh my God, a violin and a piano appeared, other musical instruments, this is really happening :(
Every moment, people realized more and more that this was serious.
Afterwards an expression appeared, although the first word is often changed.
    Stupid raven.
    Dumb raven.
    Damn raven.

The raven is given, not taken. And clara would never give it to the doctor.
Also you can't cheat it. If the doctor took it he would just die, no regenerations.

    • @TheLukecottle
      @TheLukecottle 5 месяцев назад +1

The doctor is mortal though. He just has the ability to rapidly heal his entire body by changing his cells. He is NOT immortal or a god. The raven would have killed him instantaneously meaning he would not have any time to regenerate. Thus he would be dead dead. Jack harness however, he would have been able to survive it possibly. As would ME (ashilda)

I'm not a huge fan of Clara's, but in the classic era we had one companion who tried to murder the Doctor, and another who was introduced and then wasn't seen again until his final story! Or I suppose there's Adam from Series 1.

    • @andrewgwilliam4831
      @andrewgwilliam4831 5 месяцев назад +1

@phantomsidious2934 I don't like her being a liar in Series 8, and I don't like her recklessness. If they hadn't also made the Doctor frequently unlikeable in Series 8 it might've been okay, but for me it's a problem when you don't like (and can't trust) either of the two regular characters and they have a relationship that's borderline toxic. Although they dialled some things back for Series 9 we still have the recklessness that is allowed to go unchecked until it kills her. Even earlier in this episode there's the ridiculous scene where she's enjoying hanging out the Tardis. I suppose it didn't help that her story had apparently reached a natural end on more than one occasion, and yet she continued on.
There are other times when she's great, or when they handle well that she's been damaged by events. So it's a mixed bag, which is why I never count myself as someone who "hates" Clara. I just don't put her anywhere near the top tier.

The return of the season 8 12th doctor, with his attitude and ferocity not to mention hes wearing his proper Doctor costume and not that embarrassing and scruffy hoodie and t shirt look hes had for most of this series...what was that about? Anyway capaldi especially in the last part of this story was amazing. Cool little cliffhanger also. Clara is a good companion and I feel the hate towards her from most of the fan base is unjustified or at least the hate feels over the top, and yes she's way better than Rose who became pretty selfish especially in the second season. At least Clara sacrificed herself for Rigsy. "Me" returning is disappointing as shes bland and irritating but yeah, its not a great episode, good concept but didn't work for me as a whole...but next episode however....
