Flying Heritage and Combat Armor Museum open house
The Flying Heritage and Combat Armor Museum was launched in Arlington, Washington by the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, in 2004. Moving to its current location at Paine Field in Everett in 2008, the museum features some of the most historically accurate and authentic restorations of vintage aircraft, tanks, and military armaments in the world. The museum closed in 2020 during the pandemic, and was purchased by Walmart heir Steuart Walton in 2022, before reopening in May 2023.

The final chapter of my recreation of Charles Lindbergh's solo New York to Paris flight in The Spirit of St. Louis. The flight was recreated using Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 set at 100% realism, period weather maps, and dead reckoning navigation. Lindbergh's book, "The Spirit of St. Louis," was used as a reference in recreating this historic flight.

My recreation of Charles Lindbergh's solo, non stop Transatlantic flight, using the Spirit of St. Louis flight model from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Part 1 recreates the takeoff from Roosevelt Field on May 20, 1927. Using period weather maps/charts, and Lindbergh's notes and observations from his book, "The Spirit of St. Louis," I navigated using dead reckoning and pilotage to fly "The Gr...

Flying the Ryan NYP around the pattern at Santa Maria Municipal Airport in California, where I earned my PPL in 1977. Loading the airplane with only 150 gallons of fuel, and staying well below the max gross weight of 5250 lbs., the Spirit is particularly unstable around all axes, making it difficult to fly with even a modicum of precision. Charles Lindbergh was clearly an exceptional and determ...

Thermoacoustic Engine (Stirling) 2
Просмотров 5 тыс.6 лет назад
To mitigate the problem of insufficient torque to drive the generator in my first video, the following solutions were initiated...1) Increase the diameter of the driven pulley. 2) modify the compression ratio. 3) Install a smaller, lower friction generator. A reduction in average RPM from around 650 to about 350 was noted due to these modifications. Background music is "Raise My Rent" from Davi...

My son Brent and I built this thermoacoustic engine for his 6th grade science project. I designed the engine to drive a tiny electric motor and propeller, but unfortunately, this engine lacks the torque to accomplish that task. We found this to be a very enjoyable and informative first time project, that requires very specific tolerances and parameters to run successfully. See "Thermoacoustic E...

Классно. Мне тоже нравиться этот самолет.
Очень неустойчивый самолет, но со своей задачей справился!
good sound
the location of the heat seems to be in a bad position for the standing wave, from my knowledge you need it roughly 1/3 the way in from the closed section

Thanks Rich!
How to calculate efficiency of thermoacoustic engine?
You relate it to carnot efficiency
Good job . Respect 👍
Thanks brah, much appreciated! (I've seen your excellent work!)

Me fascina el pistón expuesto con sus recorridos .
It's a crappy flyer as an airplane. Not for your average joe. As we all know from a design standpoint & from history, Ryan Aircraft designer Donald Hall didn't have time to redesign the horizontal & vertical tail surfaces. They kept the same surfaces as used with the Ryan M1 and were undersized for the much larger SOSL. Thus, it provided for a lot less instability in flight, to say the least.
Exactly! It just needed to fly well enough to carry Lindbergh to Paris. Fortunately, his skill as a pilot was superior to the average Joe!
Nice landing. Unfortunatel, LeBourget at that time had no runway...just a BIG field!
Indeed! The only visual references Lindbergh had for landing were lights from the rows of cars that had parked on the field. Needless to say, Charles Lindbergh was an exceptional pilot!
I've made this flight twice myself in FS2004. LONG FLIGHT :)
I actually made this flight over the span of a couple of months, pausing after each leg of the great circle route. Much respect if you actually flew it for 33 hours, twice!
It's a Stirling Engine, 1816 by Mr Stirling. Don't rename it, that's very disrespectful.
Cosa volevi dimostrare ? ? ?
FASCINATING! I see the problem with the small dynamo, though...perhaps a smaller pulley and remove 'half' of the magnets in the dynamo case to lower magnetic resistance - then, instead of the tiny motorized fan - just put an array of LED's - flashing and non-flashing...it would work - since LEDs need much less current than the fan motor...
Thanks for the thoughtful comments Rodney! I actually did try different pulley sizes, and replaced the motor (generator) with a smaller unit with less rotational resistance. See the result in the second video, Thermoacoustic Engine 2. Cheers!
Wt engine did u use
I used a Saito .72 four stroke motor.
Pretty cool Bob
Thanks Jason! Looking forward to your return to the lazy B!

A good friend of mine, Tony King, is currently taking flying lessons and is planning on recreating this flight next November.
You know, I once knew a guy that went by the nickname "little chicken wing King," but I'm afraid the only wings he'd ever win, would be delivered in a greasy KFC bucket.
Nice job Robert!!
Thanks Frank! Been on my "to do" list for many years!

I'm loving this series. The historical approach that you're taking here is the best part of it, IMO.
Thank you Luiz! I tried to recreate Lindbergh's flight profile as accurately as my archaic, Dell XPS 400 PC, and Microsoft Flight Sim. 2004 would allow!
Very Good.
Thank you very much!
I grew up in Tanglewood ,the neighborhood next to where the Airfield was .. It was my playground growing up in the 70's and 80's . There are still a few structures standing to this day . But sadly the majority have been torn down. I remember a theater , a bomb shelter , some jail cells ,and a hill with a flat concrete platform on top and open underneath. I don't really know what it was used for . But I always wanted to know the history of the place so I did a little research and found a lot of info . And what I found was very interesting and it satisfied my childhood curiosity ! Thank you for sharing!
Some wonderful memories Scott, thanks for sharing! As you mentioned, many structures from the airbase still exist; those "jail cells" you mentioned were actually secure vaults used to store the top secret Norden Bombsight during the war. BTW, my sister and her husband bought their first house in Tanglwood! Cheers!
this is so cool
Thank you!
Great cover
Thank you so much!
Dear sir please tell me how to make this engine
Hello...There are many very detailed videos on RUclips that can provide you with step by step instructions on how to build this type of engine. Our particular design was based on the general concept of a Stirling heat engine, and is far from perfect! The primary component used to build the engine is the graphite piston. It is marketed by the Airpot Corp. as a pneumatic actuator, and is available as a free sample product from their website. Other components include; flywheels fabricated from raw aluminum bar stock, bearings from my son's Widget spinner collection, test tubes from his school science lab, metal brackets from Lowes, tiny electric motor salvaged from an RC helicopter, and various plastic pulleys, steel rods, and brass tubing from my RC airplane parts bin, and our local hobby shop. Check out these other videos on YT . . . ruclips.net/video/P5bQhGw3Ev4/видео.html, ruclips.net/video/V9XgIo7RWDw/видео.html.

Haha! I'm trying to get some stick time in the Spirit in preparation to fly the 33 1/2 hour NYP flight. Working up proficiency to performing takeoffs and landings at gross weight from the cockpit view, 100 % realism settings. She's a real turd, as you know!
dont convert the axial movement to rotary to generate energy. Use the axial directly, placing static coils into cilinder, and magnets on the piston. much less energy loss.
Brilliant ,great tune
Thank you Karen, and yes, it is a great Genesis tune!
Superb

I can believe how long its wings are! Oh, and I love the engine sound, too! Awesome!
Yes, it's an incredibly beautiful and efficient wing, and that sound . . . I think you summed it up nicely!
Use 91 percent alcohol or denatured alcohol for hotter flame. Then use low viscosity oil on all moving parts. But no oil in piston tube or you will change compression. Then connect your tiny motor. Very nicely done.
Thanks for the advice! We did make a few other minor tweaks to get it run successfully, see Thermoacoustic Engine 2.
Needs combustion and fuel like any engine modi will not be impressed
Love it cannot think of any other word just pure awesomeness!!!!!
Agreed! That beautiful all composite wing is incredible!
Very rare bird sighting :D
Rare bird indeed!
never thought the engine sound would be deeper than the 787 one
Acoustic liners and a scalloped trailing edge (called chevrons) used on the 787 engine nacelles are very effective noise suppressors. This first 777-9X utilizes the more traditional nacelle design to house it's massive GE9X engines.
That’s a great video
It was a beautiful sight, and wonderful sound!
