  • My recreation of Charles Lindbergh's solo, non stop Transatlantic flight, using the Spirit of St. Louis flight model from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Part 1 recreates the takeoff from Roosevelt Field on May 20, 1927. Using period weather maps/charts, and Lindbergh's notes and observations from his book, "The Spirit of St. Louis," I navigated using dead reckoning and pilotage to fly "The Great Circle Route" from N.Y. to Paris. The majority of the 33 1/2 hour flight was flown using the cockpit view, to better appreciate some of the challenges Lindbergh faced in landing, taking off, and navigating in the blind cockpit of an extremely unstable airplane. Engine pre-start/run up @ 6:12, Takeoff @ 9:40, Intercept Lindbergh's course @ 13:55. (Correction @ 1:12, Lindbergh was the first to fly SOLO non-stop from N.Y. to Paris)
