Sukoyaka Panda Meeting at Carnosa Fumotto すこやかパンダミーティング カルノーサフモット Japanese RC Buggy Culture.
I'm back with another snippet of Japanese RC car culture. This time it is the Sukoyaka (meaning "healthy" or "fit") Panda Meeting. The event was organized by Pine Beach Raceway and Panda Circuit. And it was held at my local outdoor dirt track, Carnosa Fumotto.
The goal was to create a laid back RC event where anyone, regardless of skill level could bring just about anything RC and run it on track.
And they succeeded! 👍👏
I had a fabulous time. as I am sure everyone else did. The vibe was really nice. In addition to plenty of free running time, there were a series of fun, light- hearted two lap races for the various different types of machines.

Another fabulous night racing at Carnosa RC park in round 4 of the RWD Cup. In round three I came 2nd overall, losing out to a vintage (not re-re!) RC10. Round four saw me take TQ and head straight into the A main. However, a few silly mistakes and I was knocked out a couple of times. I finished the night in 3rd place, with 2nd place going to the vintage RC10. Respect! ✊😁 Still very pleased wit...
RC Garage Update (VLOG) Some projects I've been working on (and a wee rant about AE)

After editing this video I realized I came across as moaning a lot about nothing. Which is a fair assessment. 😅 Hey, what can I say. I'm British and we love to moan. 😁 To be honest it wasn't that much of a deal, more of a disappointment really. Coming from numerous Tamiya, Kyosho and Yokomo builds I had was looking forward to building something different. To me the build is a large part of the ...

First up, apologies for the somewhat misleading thumbnail! 😳 I had this photo of the Top Force that I thought looked rather cool and wanted to use it. Not exactly a park in early autumn, but does it matter...? 😁 My Top Force has a few mods. In addition to upgrades to bring it up to Evo spec, it also has EXO Design carbon shock towers and rear brace, PR Racing big bore shocks and VP Pro rear win...

I am extremely fortunate to be able to add this rare and oh so very special buggy to my collection. In a word: FANTASTIC! 😁 👏 After driving the 834B I can begin to understand just how much of a game changer this must have been when it appeared in 1983. Yokomo YZ-834B "Dog Fighter" Initial Impressions and thoughts. Is it any good?
Просмотров 7 тыс.3 месяца назад
Here are my (not so brief) thoughts on the second re-release from Yokomo, the 1983 YZ-834B. Also known as the Dog Fighter, this is considered to be one of the first 1/10 electric 4WD buggies commercially available. Some unusual features of the 834B include a midship mounted motor with power transferred via a chain and gears fore and aft respectively. At the rear you'll find a gear diff, but the...

Wait, what? But, David you already have an Optima I hear you say. 😁 That is correct! 😅 But that one was my first 4WD Legendary Series build and something I wish to keep completely stock. hgahah great video!
Kai City R/C you are the only ones that I've heard what I fell as well, It's tuff to tear into that beautiful packaging when I built my first in 86 all the kits were blister packed so it wasn't so bad but now when you get a kit w/ blister packed beauty you just don't want too! Ralphie
👍Beautiful bodies painted differently from the original version 🤩
Any info on that very cool looking BBX(?) at the 25 second mark? 0:25
Sadly I wasn't able to talk to the owner in depth. But it was a fully custom built BHM Wild One! The laid down front shock setup in particular was very interesting. It performed very well on the track too.
@ Thanks for the update, Hopefully you will see him at a future event. Would love to see a full video on it!
Incredible coverage, lots of great footages and nice colour grading too. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. ☺️
Hi David, you've probable seen this but I've just watched a Kyosho Corporation YT video and spotted you in the background. How cool is that! 😄 ruclips.net/video/ChmBDCqFNFc/видео.htmlsi=9Dhf3QAk6KH8ChTu
That was from the Vintage Meet earlier in the year! Great day out. If you're quick I can be seen in a couple of shots, and two of my buggies are shown towards the end. 👍
@@KaiCityRC Ah yes! I didn't see the other shots the first time around. Great stuff. Roll on next year's event! 👍
Looked like a lot of fun! I did laugh at the Grasshopper all at a "standing" start in the one race! More races should be started like that LOL! I'm glad you had a fun day out there David and thanks for sharing!
I've not seen that starting style too often, but it does make it interesting! 😁
Another great video David. Cool track too 👌 Cheers John
Thanks 👍 It is nice to get out on a proper dirt track and the new layout is really good. Totally different to driving on high grip carpet. The only real downside is the need to clean up afterwards!
What a great looking, fun event! Happy and safe holiday wishes to you and your loved ones!
Thank you! The same to you and yours. 😊 👍
Amazing, thanks!
Thank you too! ☺️
Wonderful video of a wonderful day! Happy holidays David!
Thank you! Have a great winter holiday too! ☺️
Happy days David. 🎄🦌
Thank you! ☺️
Back when rc cars were looking amazing and fun to drive. Vintage rc is forever! P.S. The engine sounds were great, very fitting for the car. 😁
Thanks! The TXT-1 gets a lot of attention recently, I guess because they aren't too common. The sound box adds that little something extra. 😁
Fun times.
Wonderful video! Happy to see that rajikon is back and here to stay. Happy holidays my friend.😊
Interest in the hobby remains strong for those of us who grew up with the hobby in the 80’s and 90’s. But it continues to struggle for popularity with the younger generation. Family friendly events where those unfamiliar with RC can experience the joys of building and running are going to be key to keeping the hobby alive in the long term. Nevertheless, it is great that RC is going through something of a revival now. Happy times! 😊👍
Regarding roll, consider adding the front and rear sway bars/stabilizer set. Makes a huge difference on-road. I put soft in front, medium in rear.
I’ve have a few upgrades the FZ02-R waiting to be installed, but just haven’t had the time. Sway bars are definitely on the list. 👍
Yeh Derby I thought your from London. Ive been into rc all my life as well. When I was a teenager we raced on Baker St. at night there was no traffic really, can't do that now. Then like you I got back into it, kyosho MR01 mini z racing, I moved all my furniture out of the living room and built a track, invited all my mates over for a party really we raced till 3am. My mates girlfriend was from Japan she said they would be proud of your dedication. Great video I'm still surprised how similar complete strangers are to me.
Those were the days - you could charge a battery, walk out the front door and pretty much drive an RC anywhere and nobody complained! I also briefly got into Mini Z racing back in the mid 2000's when a local hobby store built a track. But found them really challenging to drive and after a while switched back to 1/10 cars. Thanks! ☺️
Nice, I love the MTs
What a piece of art David. Absolute art.
Thanks! The Javelin ranks as one my all time favorite RC cars.
Love the full scale XR311 😮 I too have one to build 🙂
Eventually I'll get around to building mine. Not looking forward to all the detailed body work and painting. Looks like a nightmare to get right. 😅
@ I can’t decide if I should paint it then stick it together or paint after it’s built. I know Tamiya cement affects paint
@@martinhsrc6699 That is also something I am unsure about Hard bodies and I do not get along! 😅
I've always found Japanese culture so lovely. So kind and welcoming, I've visited twice. The best car and motorcycle manufacturers in the world! Even my wrist watches and Shindaiwa lawn equipement are Japanese. My Grandfathers ship was sunk by a Japanese Zero during WWII but decades later he still wore Seiko watches, bought Japanese made tools and drove Toyota trucks. Super disappointed to see my new Futaba radio was made in China. I guess nothing remains the same.
The people and culture here are a large part of the reason I choose to call this beautiful country home. ☺️
@@KaiCityRC I have no doubt. Thanks for replying! I was a jet engine mechanic in the Air Force during the late 90's, early 00's. I spent a week at Yokota AFB, before the annual Frienship Festival repairing a broken and god-awful looking KC-10. We were to repair it and "make it go away" before the festival began. Tokyo was supposely less than an hour away by train, but we were working 14 hour days and the trip just wasn't possible. I was on military time and it was "literally" a mission, lol. I've always wanted to return on my own time and truly experience the culture and values I admire so much, its easy to understand why you stayed. I can't be the only one who'd love to hear about your occupation and how you got immigration status. Japan is on point when it comes to that, America desperately needs to take notes. Apparantly you had something to offer adtwr university, and I'd love to hear about it! Best regards, across the world from the Spacecoast FL, USA!
The Yokosuka Friendship Day continues to this day. As it is not too far from me, I keep meaning to go one day. Just never got around to it. I plan to put together an answer video during the winter holiday. ☺️
What a wonderful community, wish we had that here! And the event tour with your TXT-1 is a great idea, appreciate the effort! :D
The TXT-1 walk was totally unplanned. 😁 I figured since I was going to walk around the event filming, I might as well take the TXT-1 along too. ☺️
Like when I watched rc magazines from the 80s. I have the same emotions.
Nostalgia is undoubtedly a big part of this hobby for us. ☺️
Wow that was a fantastic event! Pure fun!!!
It certainly was. I think events similar to this would do a lot to attract more people to our hobby. 😊
Great sharing, I enjoyed every bit of it 👍🏼the txt-1 is amazing👍🏼
It really is a beast. 👍 I had forgotten how much fun it is to run. Such a shame getting replacement parts is now so difficult.
Do you speak Japanese since you live in Japan? Do you work in Japan? Thoughts?
I'll put together an answer video for this and the other questions in the near future. 👍
How is your Japanese? When did you begin to learn the language?
Thanks for the question. I'll put together an answer video in the near future. 👍
I’m going next year ❤
Great! I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy it! 👍
I can’t imagine how anyone could mistake you for an American! Even if your Bri’ish isn’t thick it’s definitely there to my non-native ear at least.
I also think I sound nothing like an American! 😁
What an epic day . Just taking your RC car for a walk . Brilliant 👍
Absolutely! I would never have thought simply taking an RC car for a walk could be so much fun! 😁
What a great day. The rc walk was suoer cool.I hope you kept your skyline. Those cars have doubled in value in the past 10 years. I think a 32 gtr is about $100k AUS. Im lucky enough to have kept my Japanese sports cars from the good old days. But im too old to get in and out of them anymore haha.
Ugh...don't mention the GTR.😩 After owning an R33 GTS and later an R34 GT-V, I finally got my hands on my dream car. An R34 GTR in Bayside Blue, of course. Had it for nearly 13 years. It was featured in a book on the GTR and can also be briefly seen in a segment on Jay Leno's Garage. I love that thing. 🤩 But life changes and during my last few years of ownership I hardly used it. So sold it for what was (at the time) a great deal. Now, some 8 years later it would be worth....I don't even want to think about it. Regrets...I have a few. 😔
What brought you to Japan?
Thanks for the question. I'll put together an answer video in the near future. 👍
They need to bring back txt1.
They certainly do! That and everything else from the 80's that they've yet to re-release. At this point I'd even be jumping for joy if the Striker were to make a comeback! 😂
@KaiCityRC I agree as well as the sonic fighter and evething else from the 90s and 80s.
Is this in the uk pal
Carnosa RC Park is located in Japan. 🇯🇵
I am in Osaka at the moment, this Aussie is just totally amazed! that walk just looked so happy! Cheers for the vid!
Thank you! ☺️
I believe the XR311 in the video is a Series I prototype. The Tamiya kit is specifically modelled on the Series II vehicles that have a smaller engine plus different bonnet and front lights. If you'd like to see some more interesting facts and images of the XR311, please check the kit build video on my channel.
Thanks for the info! 👍 I just watched your XR311 build. Wow! 🤩
@@KaiCityRC Thanks for taking a look. The XR311 is such a nice model and takes me back to a golden era of RC cars when they were scale models with RC equipment fitted. Nowadays, there is too much polycarbonate and an emphasis on skatepark bashing rather than scale realism. The RC Channel parts are amazing but rather expensive! If you are a fan of other vintage RC vehicles, I just published a video featuring the Kyosho Double Dare car crusher that I built in 1989.
Build the XR311 just dont put a motor in it 😂 lovley to look at. Great video.
Build a kit and not run it!? That would be quite difficult for me. 😁 When it comes to running kits I've built, resistance is (usually) futile. 😅
Subscribed! Great vid and comparison!
Thank you! 😊
Super cool full sized vehicles! The XR311 was really cool! It looked like a nice, relaxed event and everyone there seemed to be having a great time! You took out a cool one to go cruising around with!
That XR311 was awesome. Love it! 🤩 It would be so cool to go for a drive in one. 😎 The TXT-1's imposing size made it something of an attention grabber. Sadly, its aging plastic sustained some damage during the day. Fortunately I was able to locate the necessary replacement parts. It's undergoing repairs and since a few upgrades at the moment. Hopefully have it done in time for this weekend's event. 👍
@@KaiCityRC I am glad you were able to find the parts, those are getting harder and harder to find
Incredible event and report, David 👍 Must be fun 😊 🤝
I had a lot more fun than I was expecting. The atmosphere, location, weather and people all combined to make for a memorable day. I'll definitely be going again next year. 👍
Looked like an amazing day. Japan is beautiful.
Oh yes, Japan is very picturesque once you get out of the big cities. Spring, and especially autumn, are fantastic times to be out in the mountains.
I can't believe you're from Derby!?!? 🤯 You've definitely lost your accent 😅
Yep...after 25 years here there isn't much left of my original accent. 😅
@KaiCityRC I'm from Nottingham originally, after living abroad and teaching English I lost my accent too. I wish we had Tamiya events like that in the UK. Looks amazing.
Looks like a very fun event! I know what you mean about running out of space for cars. I just can't bear to get rid of my favourite builds. Storage tubs are a last resort at the moment.
My collection outgrew the shelf space, then the closet and is now scattered throughout the house! 😅
You always succeed in bringing up interesting aspects of the hobby, that I have not been aware of before! I really enjoyed this video.
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Great event. Many beautiful Buggies 👍
Congrats on the 4k. Well deserved indeed!
Thanks!
Your flags are backwards!
Probably my favorite RC channel. Very relaxing to watch your detailed presentation with your soft accent and peaceful Japanese music in the background. It's almost like ASMR for dudes that dig RC! I just ordered a Beetle and taking notes on the part numbers you speak of. You deserve more subs, you and your channel are a benefit to the community. Keep up the great work David, watching from the Space Coast Florida USA.
Thank you for the kind words. ☺️ I am glad my content is proving useful to so many people. You're gonna love the Beetle. It's an absolute gem on an RC buggy. Judging by how many I see over here, it is by far the most popular body on the Scorpion chassis.
Hi there, I’m in the final stages of my Tomahawk and find the gear mesh at the pinion/spur is too tight. Have you experienced this on any of your builds and/or found a solution. With it being all fixed adjustments I’m not sure how to correct it short of grinding an adjustment notch for the motor screws 😳
Hi there! First of all, I’m going to assume you’re using the correct pinion spur combo. The kit includes two for different gear ratios. Assuming that’s ok the next thing I would look at is the shaft that the spur mounts on to. Of the five buggies I’ve built with that gearbox one had a mesh that seemed tight at certain spots as it rotated. The solution I found was to simply undo the screw holding that shaft in place and re tighten it 180° from its initial position. (It’s supposed to be setup so the body pin hole is horizontal). That seemed to solve the problem. Don’t forget the thread lock too. A final possibility is the motor plate has a slight bend in it. Unlikely, but possible. You could also try a different brand of pinion. If the backlash isn’t too far off ideal, I might be tempted to run it. The gears should bed in after a little use. 👍 Hope that helps!
@ thanks so much! I’ll give the shaft spin a try. I appreciate your help! The GO TO Kyosho legends legend 👌
@@Bonurges Anytime! I hope you get it sorted. Oh, and just a heads up. The long absent CNC Motor plate for the Scorpion series (SCW011GM) finally reappeared here the other day. It sold out immediately. Likely other batches will appear in stock outside of Japan. It adds cooling and strength to the motor mount. Might be worth a look. 👍
👍 Just a little more video in detail about cars of it’s possible 🤩
Will try! 👍 Night races at Carnosa are pretty hectic, so not a lot of time to film in the pit.
