I really enjoyed this anime the only really IFFY part was momiji accidentally grabbed mahiros breasts but most of the more sexual stuff happened with characters the same age and gender so for me its a 10/10 anime and i hope they make a season 2 sometime soon.

watching this video because i’ve been anxiously waiting for the adaptation. i love the manga so much-you conveyed everything i adore about it-but i’d be devastated if the adaptation doesn’t hold up.

Danmachi is actually really good for the reasons we have forgotten for the past few years, it is not hollow. Actually written characters, story and world. Also, what I am really liking about this series is that it gets actually more intense and "heavy" as Bell progresses. He comes as a little boy that wants to become hero, folowing stories he have been told by his grandfather (Zeus, duh), he doesn't know shit about the world and as story goes on, Bell gets stronger, it feels like the world around him becomes more hostile towards him, every season gets darker and darker, and it goes on in ranobe. Not like it turns to dark fantasy, it is like Bell just grows up and the view of the world surrounding him changes as well, accordingly. To put into perspective, it is like we remember things that were brighter in childhood, and nowadays this nostalgia just feels odd. That is why series feel as an evolution, not because it randomly became better, but because of the narrative and story, it all progresses.

Rentaro is like that one friend that asks you "Yo what do you want drink?" and you say that you can't afford it but he is like: "Didn't ask, what do you want"? and pays for you with no hesitation.

The first few seasons hooked me but the ending of the last season kinda ended bad, like the whole purpose was that the elf girl could rely on teammates again and didn’t have to be alone, her taking revenge was put in a grey light from what I remember, and then it ended with her fighting and beating the unstoppable monster alone after bell failed. I find it unsatisfying because the focus has always been on bell not the elf girl, I found her story moving and enjoyed learning about her but bell should’ve slayed the monster

I discovered this anime about a week ago. Well, I say that, but I'm pretty sure I had seen it pop up in my recommendations before and just brushed it off as another cliched harem anime. But last week, I had just finished watching through something else and decided to give it a chance. I instantly fell in love with both the characters and the humor and ended up binging my way through all twelve episodes. The thing is, even that wasn't enough, so upon finishing the anime I immediately began reading the manga. The anime adapts the first 22 chapters, showing Rentarou connect with his first six soul mates. I am now up to about chapter 98 and he's currently at 19 soul mates. And, believe it or not, the mangaka is still doing an amazing job of making sure all of the girls get to share the spotlight. Each time a new soul mate is introduced, that chapter is devoted almost entirely to her so we can get to know her, with few if any appearances by the other girls, then the next chapter is always Rentarou introducing the new girl to the others, generally involving some hilarious game or scenario centered on the new girl's interests to help her get to know everyone. And Rentarou is still every bit as sweet and just as devoted to the happiness of each girl. Oh, and God isn't the only one who breaks the fourth wall; it's pretty much commonplace in this series. For example, at one point Rentarou ends up getting a job as an assistant to the artist drawing the manga and the next couple panels have him pointing at things and saying, "I drew that!" In short, I love everything about this series and can't wait to see more adapted into anime.

as a trans woman i loved onimai so much because i would give a lot to return to a younger life in my preferred body and actually be able to enjoy myself instead of hating my body more over time as i grew. i wish more anime expressed gender identity more openly and not playing it off as gross or a joke

As someone who reads the manga it’s so frustrating how people just assume stuff abt Onimai just because they gave kaede calcium cannons in the anime, that they don’t see the wholesome side of Onimai!

I just love the art direction they were going for it has alot of characters and isnt another copy pasted looking anime, and I want to just give them that credit I really hope theres a second season.

I watched Onimai for it’s premise. Episode 1 surprised me, but I stuck with it. I stopped watching it around episode 2 or 3 and didn’t return to it until around a couple months later. I cannot describe how much I missed out. This might be my favorite anime of all time. Sadly I can’t recommend it to anyone, especially because where I live. That stuff is actively trying to be stopped. Most people judge it by episode 1, the premise, or some random images. So much better than fan service.

Rentaro is that boi, an absolute gigachad. The pronouns he prefers are He's/Him because he's him, he does this. In the manga, he breaks reality for those girls every time there is a character popularity poll, he rigs the poll, so every girl is number one, and they all get 999,999 votes. When a chapter is about to end on an unhappy note he rips the chapter end and keeps going until they are happy, when his girlfriends want to rest their heads on his lap the mans legs extend and spiral around him like a junji ito book so that there is enough space for all of them. He is the best boyfriend and none of us will ever compare.

Silly filthy manga reader here and let me just say that this video was pretty good it supported a lot of what i feel about the anime and its source material, but as a manga reader I wanted to help add some context to a lot of things on this adaptation. For starters, if you haven't already read the manga I highly recommend it. It's super fun and quite different from the anime. I'd recommend reading it from the start since there's a lot of cut content from the anime in the manga. Another point of note is that the manga was originally a self published webcomic posted by Nekotofu on Twitter before being picked up by a comic publisher about 10 chapters in, so the first 10 or so chapters are very disconnected and experimental (this is where most of the cut content is). The odd pacing is fine and it still manages to be fun and entertaining, but it really suffers from pilot syndrome where a lot of the characters feel off or different from their final selves before Nekotofu finds their footing and figures everything out. Another thing I will say is that I will be referring to Mahiro as a he in this, especially when discussing manga Mahiro since he still strongly identifies as male even up to current chapters (the manga is still ongoing so things may change). I hope you can understand this decision. Okay, with that out of the way, let me begin. I will say it outright, the anime is a far superior product to the manga is basically every aspect (not to say that the manga is bad, it's just that the anime is better). What really drives home the anime as the better product in the end is the emotional core. Obviously the betting pacing and characters at the beginning is an improvement, but the manga lacks a very solid emotional core that the anime has. The hotspring arc, the most emotionally charged moment in the anime, and the moment that showed Mahiro's biggest moment of growth was reduced to just another quick joke. A funny joke, but a joke none the less. It's incredible how wildly different tonally the anime is from the manga. Where the anime has these beautifully directed sequences that bring you to tears and fill you with indescribable feelings, the manga is far more basic and toned down, it's not a bad thing, it's just different. The manga feels far more comfy and relaxed. This is due in part to the fact that it has a lot more time to work with. Characters are another thing, Kaede is far more toned down too. She's still the silly wholesome gal that we know and love, but her fashionista personality is far more subtle and her proportions are greatly reduced. Mahiro's personality is also slightly different in the anime. In the manga he's way more toxic and macho than he is in the anime. He's manipulative, deceitful, full of himself, and very degenerate. These aspects work well, but can also be a bit overbearing at times, so I'm glad they toned it down in the anime. Asahi gets plenty of time to shine and has become my favorite character in the whole manga. She's got this playful and boundless energy for absolutely everything. There's not a thought between those eyes and I love her. The incontinence counter continues to rise (up to 10 by this point, 15 if you count the anthology collection), it's almost a little concerning at this point but whatever. The artstyle is also pretty subdued compared to the anime. It's still adorable and very expensive. It fits the static nature of comic format far more compared to animation so it's good. Mihari and Mahiro's relationship never develops into anything beyond just a fun and wholesome familial bond, in fact, the manga even actively mocks the audience at times for assuming incest things are happening. Even small characters like Nemu (the blue haired sleepy girl) and Minato and Yuuta (the two boys that Mahiro talks about games with) get time to shine. Nemu is another gamer girl like Mahiro and they end up becoming close friends and even party members in an MMO. Minato and Yuuta also come to share a deep bond with Mahiro due to their shared interests. Minato and Yuuta also have such a fun and endearing bromance it's great. Finally, one of the most important characters in the story is currently a manga only character, she actually gets introduced the chapter after the anime leaves off and is in the end credits and final splash screen of the last episode. Nayuta is, I won't go into a lot of detail to avoid spoilers, but she shares a very special relationship with Mahiro which also aids in silly and fun hijinks, if there's any reason to read the manga, Nayuta would absolutely be it, she's the only one of the seven main characters that's still manga only. The manga also has other little side characters. Asahi's older brother, Nayuta's older sister, and even Mama Oyama herself makes some appearances. Anyway, I've yapped on enough for a comment that'll probably never get seen. If you do see this, hi.

There's things I don't like but I love the why choose. I want the show to explore the girls dating each other and him. I also can't wait for one of his girlfriends to be a guy.

It was originally a Manga before they turned it into an anime

If a Show is well produced and consistent. It dosen't mean the production has a "good" production time. Some of the best produced animes were made in terrible productions. And this just means the productions are more consistent because of production lines and animation producers. Not better "deadlines". ANIPLEX is not generous at all. And i don't know about JOEN.

Watched this after seeing a funny clip not knowing what anime it was. Its good. Normally dont like this sort of premise but decided to give it a shot anyway and dont regret it in the slighest. Very wholesome. Good humor. If you need a pallet cleanser like I did (just done watching Beserk) I can recommend this series if you dont mind slice of life shows.
