A great thing about fiction has always been the ability to talk about uncomfortable topics with nuance and care, and I definitely agree Mushoku Tensei does an amazing job with this
The Erectile Dysfunction Arc is superb story telling. We wanted want our boy to win so bad. We didnt care is Luffy got his 5th gear, we only celebrated when Rudy got his 5th Gear on.
Love Mushoku Tensei the level of entertainment I get not just from the amazing story from the anime and light novels but from people complaining about it its amazing 🤩
That's not the point though. I hate this arguement that Rudeus should have done something about slavery and by not doing it he has somehow condone it in some way. I fell that all that hatred towards Rudeus comes from people that watch anime to self incert themselves into MC and feel themselves happy and important when he saves people and does good things. Thats why when Rudeus does some bad things they feel like they been draged into diong something bad too. The thing is though, MC in this show is not for self incert. This show apart from many others isekais actually has good world, good characters, and good theme it wants to explore. It's not made for the sole sake of escapism, it's not made to appeal to people who fantacise abot being overpowered and saving hot girls to make a harem, MC there isnt "average high schooler" for easy self incertion he is a person with good and bad qualities some of which are bed enough to ruin his previous life and thats ok. Because MC is not you, so you dont have to judge him and hate him if he does something different that you would. PS: I so fucking hate this whole arguement. Imagine in "crime and punishment" by dostoevsky he would be on the verge of being canseled beacuse MC kills a person for money. I totally ses its happening if it was an isekai. Isekai fans are fucking joke.
My comment is about people in general and their takes that i have heard numerous times. As for you i just think that while i agree with your takes you have missed the main point of why people hate rudeus actions. He may be a flawed man but a great character and thats ok. And there is no way author should be judged for what his character is doing no matter how fucked up it is. So basicly i dont feel there is any need to defend mushoku tensei because the whole issue lies in the heads of twitter warriors.@@danyul-
It's just that recent anime fans who've yet to see more disturbing topics from other anime that went under their radar, are the ones mostly complaining about these controversies. There are clear differences between telling a story, building a character, and doing both when you compare stories and plot. People got used to the mass-produced isekai anime in which they don't need to see a character grow, but only see just how an overpowered MC will use their abilities to either dominate or take the spotlight of the world they're in. As for the disturbing topics, I don't think they've ever known the differences between Shonen and Seinen which is literally just rated 'Teens' and 'Mature' after seeing certain tweets stating 'WHY IS THIS BEING SHOWN TO KIDS!?'. But I can't blame them for always seeing the former literally with blood, gore, and tiddies every episode that they'd think any media is for all ages now.
It's not about being on "our side"...it's about understanding or not why the mc in this story *HAD TO BE* almost the most irredeemable person ever...and not some moral high ground battle shonen hero that saves even the enemies.
When fully sentient AI robots are used as unpaid servants in the future, I wonder how people will feel about such a thing then? Humanity isn't as enlightened as we think we are, and it's good that there is media being made to make us look inside of ourselves and ask the tough questions.
Honestly, I feel like most people will always be on the absolute for both sides. Like, the people who express how much they dislike the show are usually always making the point of Rudeus being an absolutely horrible human being, and that there is no excuse for anything he's done and he can never be redeemed, while die-hard fans downplay Rudeus' actions. I agree with your take on Rudeus & the show in general, but for some reason people in general can't seem to look at creative works like Mushoku Tensei and try to understand the nuance that goes in between the plot and characters. (Although I am biased as I do like the show and I've read most of the light novels.) I also find it interesting that people take fictional characters thoughts & opinions and try to reflect that on writers/authors.. that, I just completely cannot understand the mindset of. Anyways, nice video.
I'm sure either side can agree the Die hard Rudy fan that downplay his actions are watching for the wrong reasons. Even the Author himself isn't trying to justify His actions and the story knows well how much of a horrible person Rudy is. You can believe if Rudy is redeemable or not but if you believe he's not a horrible person then you're just as gross
15:06. You know, this is one of the most misunderstood scenes. Perhaps Rudeus's desires were out of place no matter what, and I'll grant you that if that's your stance. But to be clear, Eris was there to sleep with him. If you watch the spin kick at 15:11 in slow motion (say 25% speed), you'll notices she's not wearing bottoms. Girls don't go to guy's rooms in nothing but a negligee because they just want to talk. If you read the books, you get an Eris chapter in book 6, where she actually explains what happened that night. Her mother had talked to Eris, and told her to give Rudeus everything, to lock him in, as if she lost him, she would end up alone. Eris was in love with Rudeus, and agreed with her mother's assessment, and was completely on board with this plan, until Rudeus's behavior left her questioning whether he loved her back, or if he just saw her as a reward her father was giving him. This caused her to pull back, in a rather violent manner, as is her way. She then returned to his room, because she was afraid that by spurning him she may have done something she couldn't take back, and even then she was willing to follow through with her original plan to sleep with him, but before she could do anything Rudeus started apologizing. So yes, the age difference is uncomfortable, though to be honest, this is a mid-evil setting, and the age issue is not an issue in the setting in question. Had Eris and her parents known he was a reincarnate, it's EXTREMELY unlikely it would have changed anything, all three of them would probably still have wanted Eris to get with Rudeus. Now, that may not give Rudeus a pass, or the world he lives in for that matter, but at least it properly sets the stage.
Look, the age difference is one thing, but they are like 10 and 12 respectively and being in a different setting doesn't make that any less uncomfortable lmao. I know full well why Eris was there, as in the scene you mentioned I censored the quick flash from her kick. Knowing and understanding doesn't make it any less weird
@@danyul- Nah, I hear you. Like I said in my comment, if you feel that way, I get it, the age thing is uncomfortable. I'm just saying loads of people think this scene is something other than what it was. Like a R*** scene, and it just wasn't. Also, your censorship at 15:11 didn't get it, it's still there, 100%. I know, I checked, twice; when I made my first comment, and again just now. It's only a couple of frames but her bottom is on display. But I don't care though, the only reason I pointed it out was because no girl shows up like that without an agenda.
I’ll be a long time until Rudeus stops being a character that is morally ambiguous. He will keep having problems from misunderstandings that even extend to the audience.

13:13. There it is, the obligatory "I don't like Rudeus." You know, it's completely ok to like someone you don't always agree with? Save Darius, that guy is there just to be hated, and he delivers. Term "problematic" is problematic. Not everything is for everyone and acknowledgement of this is important. I get the sentiment behind what you're saying, it's not the perfect word but I don't really thing there's a better way for me to describe it. The show, even if it's for a reason, does depict events that are very questionable to say the least, so I felt "problematic" fit as a description.

My reasoning is the pantie joke is stupid, I’m not a 6 years old, not funny. People argue Thorfinn killed countless people in Vinland Saga is worse than Rudeus, but it is depicted as something Thorfinn needs to get rid of rather than embracing it.

It doesn't treat Rudeus' perverted side as a flaw because its not a flaw in the first place. Rudeus problems come from the fact that he was bullied and depressed and didn't achieve anything in his past life. Now he has more women on his side than you will ever have in your entire life.
