The dedication is real anyhow i agree its this is a masterpiece of an episode it showed everything and at the end left us with sadness. I like how they fixed some small consistency error like Ais eyes when she said she can’t be a idol meeting the manager.
I loved this first episode hope the next few episodes continue at this quality great video btw. Her death hit soo hard first source of media in a while to tear me up that aishiteru made it so sad.

I think this is the best anime special. But it's still second place to TYE ep 1 for me. In those 20min that episode managed to capture the essence and atmosphere that oshi no ko had trouble keeping consistent for the whole 90min.
That's why its second place to me. Also the constant perv-obsession implications...

I couldn't agree more. However, with the story being told, I feel like the rest of the episodes wont pail in comparison. I loved the manga and the characters shown but it's not something everyone is into and the quality will probably take a slight dip making people lose interest. Of course, episode 2 is not out yet so I cannot say with confidence but it's a feeling.

Although I’m satisfied with how her character ended,I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want a “what if” scenario where Ai survives simply by putting the safety lock on the door. That on itself can be used to either show us her as a spirit in a post death reunion at the end of the series or,like you said, reincarnation. The second one is more likely because Aqua already said he wanted to uncover this mystery of reincarnation, but even then,I think both cases are unlikely to be explored.

The fact that Aqua had felt her body go cold as she hugged him and the thing is most people might write off his trauma considering how he was an adult in his past life compared to Sarina.
But oh man, his trauma is way worse than Ruby's (not to downplay Ruby's trauma, but mans literally got hugged while Ai slowly bled to death. If that ain't traumatising idk what is😭).
He reincarnated with his knowledge as a doctor, yet despite that, once again, he failed to save the one person who mattered to him and had that person say that she loved him just prior to her death (just like Sarina).
Man Aqua needs so much therapy considering all the guilt and self loathing he must be having after this incident. Like any sane person would never blame Aqua for not being able to save Ai considering he was just a kid, but Aqua himself does because the one thing he thought would be an advantage to him, possessing knowledge from his past life as a doctor, ended up being futile as he was just a kid who could do nothing and just watch the person he loved slowly die😭😭. And unlike with Sarina, she was his mother, and even if he never called her mama like Ruby/Sarina, he did start viewing her as his mother. So now he carries the lifelong guilt of being unable to save his mother, and blames himself for her death.
Yall IDC if he doesn't end up with any love interests but someone get this man some therapy ASAP😭😭.

i completely agree that Oshi no ko has the greatest opening episode of all time. and i mean it has the unfair advantage of having that 90 minute run time. because of being so long the anime was able to tell a complete story to set up the future of the show. it can kind of be looked at as if this is in fact a movie created as a prologue to the show. i was able to feel so many different emotions, feel like i got an entire story, and still feel anticipated for the future of the show. I’ve recommended this anime to every single person i know, and as an anime only, i can’t wait to see ruby and aqua’s story unfold

I think it was really good that you spoke to the industry side of things as well considering that objectifying these idols as if they are possessions is a really bad habit that idol culture sort of promotes in Japan (Kind of anywhere but Japan has it pretty bad). It can be a pretty nasty business and giving Ai that sort of disconnect in personality between her job and her at home life was really interesting to watch. When the anime adaptation got announced, my friend immediately told me that its going to be amazing and to avoid spoilers, so that's what I did. I actively avoided every bit of information about this show, and I am so happy I did. Going in completely blind made it hit much harder, and I'm not going to lie when I say I cried (you know when), and I think if it's going to maintain this quality, I think it is going to be anime of the year for me. But I'm sad that as soon as the first episode came out, so many spoilers got released through social media and youtube. During the episode, I was loving more and more Ai's character, and I was heartbroken when the twist happened. Another thing that makes me sad is how a lot of people just skip it based on the cover and the synopsis. On one side, I am happy the synopsis didn't spoil anything, but on the other hand, it annoys me when people skip it thinking it's just another boring sol isekai show.

The entire production team, from the director, to the animators, the voice actors (especially Takahashi Rie), they've all created such a masterpiece that has made me feel more genuine grief than I've ever felt over real life events (which is a bit worrisome to be honest, a work of fiction got more out of me than anything else that has happened in my life).
And of course you can't forget who wrote it, Akasaka Aka who has quickly become my favourite Mangaka after watching Oshi No Ko, I already loved Kaguya-sama as my number 1 romance anime but that was the only thing I knew from Aka-sensei so I never really payed much attention to him, now I've realised how much this man never misses on anything he writes and I'm never going to miss out on any series he works on.

    - He was still a 3-4 years old boy.
    - There is a CRAZY man in the room with a knife. Who knows how that lunatic would have reacted at any attempt to help?
    - Rushing to get first aid would have also endanger his sister. As he had no way knowing if Stalker would go after them once Ai is gone.
    - You have NO WAY knowing HOW you would react if you never have been in his situation. Sometimes, in the case of an agression, potentially fatal, your mind just shut down.

I can't wait to see a lot more from this show with certain future scenes, in this season, and future seasons to come. There are a couple scenes that I hope/know that will be done justice, ie aqua's acting scene with best girl. As my favorite Manga of all time, this has my some of favorite anime adaptions to happen in recent years.

Watching this completely blind from the anime perspective was absolutely wild. I had no idea what the plot was besides the main girl was an idol singer and there was multiple characters with shiny bright eyes [literally didn't even know this chick had kids]. If anything the anime intro had that 'dark chanting' in it that made me get slightly flashbanged with "why is there something so creepy/spooky sounding in the intro?". Which made me think there may be a plot twist to the anime? But god, nothing to be expected like with we got. Especially when we got full throttle of the man's body the first time, and then Ai's later on. They were all mind numbingly good-
And the art for Ai's scene? I would be lying if I didn't say I was balling... I even knew she was going to eventually say 'I love you' but when it actually happened? It hit like a frait train.
I immediately went to go read the manga afterwards, and I'm so thankful the anime adapted in such a direction. I would have hated those panels popping in. They felt incredibly spoilery and even reading the manga now made me a tad upset? It gives you insight on the characters in the future that I kinda wish I didn't have. But either way, this is probably the best introduction to an anime I have ever seen. I wish and hope more animes go about this style of a movie like episode 1, to really flesh out the characters and the world before truly moving onto the 'real plot'. This was just so good...

I thought it was very interesting how Aqua being reincarnated didn't really have any high expectations for himself. It's almost as if he thought that he couldn't be an actor because he wasn't special in his previous life. I think that he thinks that the talent for acting is something innate that you are born with and that because he didn't have it before he can't possibly have it now and that it isn't something that you can learn.

I don't know if it was intentional in any way, but having ruby blocked by the door in ai's death scene is such a genius move from a storytelling perspective
as said in the video she started out with a barrier between her and a potential loving parent, and after reincarnating she finally got that parent that could give her the love she needed.
but when suddenly that is ripped away from her, it was like a door was slammed shut against her, and she'd be back to not having that parent that could love them every day.

For any haters that says "it's just a revenge story". Well if you're in Aqua's position, I bet you wanna kill that person who asked the stalker to kill your mom, but in reality, it will be hard af cus first you have to climb the entertainment industry which you know it's hard cus you watch your mom experienced it. Second, how to kill that person (this implying you didn't know if it was your father who did it), cus you need some hella expert steps to kill without getting caught or ended up in jail. Third, there's a slight chance that person also wants to kill you and your twin sister too (I'm anime only btw don't judge me if that's not how the story goes cus I'm just theorizing based on reality). This proof that it's not just a revenge story, it's more complicated than that (cus you need to be careful).
