BCB Fire Dragon Cooker my personal rating
BCB Fire Dragon Cooker
Thought I would throw out a test video just to see how it is received.
The plan is to dig into my toy box and rate some stoves I own based on price, value for money, functionality and happiness factor (does it make me happy when using).
Of course this is just my own personal opinion based on usage and everyone is entitled to their own thoughts.
Feel free to comment and share your experiences.
Also I would like some feedback on if you think a stove rating series is a good idea. Would really appreciate some input on this.

I made a cheese burger #cheeseburger #silverantoutdoors #lixada

Bought some Costco burgers and they reminded me of a Wimpy cheese burger I had as a kid so decided to make my own. Bun mix (well bun ish) I made from a Gluten Free mix of 50g buckwheat flour and 50g Dove Farm bread flour mixed in with a little bicarbonate of soda and cream of tartar to give it some rise and and egg to bind it together. Also threw in a few dried herbs for fun. Enjoyable little o...

    You gave it a fair review. Unlike OutDoorGearReview. He really didn't like it. I think the point he completely missed is that it is intended for use in conjunction with a mess tin to warm up a standard British Army issue boil in the bag ration. Hence the large tabs and flame. Nice and simple. Even a Para can't cock that one up. Your quite right about the fuel blocks being expensive, but that's B.C.B. for you. They've always been overpriced.

      The bun. Unfortunately I cannot use normal flour like other folk as am gluten intolerant and it makes me quite I’ll, so went with my own mix of witchcraft. 50/50 buckwheat flour (it is a relative of rhubarb and Dove Farm gluten free flour which is mainly ground rice) did the job but nothing like the real thing 👍

    Hi thanks for the video . Is this really needed when you own a ultim comfort mattress ? I mean , that mattress is very comfortable, does the height makes a huge difference? Thanks again

    • @InfoZhedExplore
      @InfoZhedExplore 10 дней назад

      Hi, no it is not really needed. If you do not mind being close to the floor there is no need for something like this. However, if a person struggles with mobility issues or finds it hard to get off the floor then something a little higher off the ground is really helpful. When I camp alone am quite happy as a ground dweller and try to take just the essentials. If Mrs InfoZhed comes along then we go with a little more comfort. I would not but this again as a bit heavy. Have upgraded to Naturehike cots the ones with additional extended legs, much lighter and really solid to sleep on. There is quite a few options out there so if you go for an off the ground option have a good look around to find what suits your style of camping 👍

    Why not grind 3 more slits at optimal height or even drill holes for steel pegs? Although I'm sure you could find something to raise the burner to the optimal level? Seems like a good deal to me and surely it's not that difficult to grind a mm or so off the hole to easily fit the Trangia? EDIT: my bad, I commented halfway through 🙂

  • @EpicureanHikers
    @EpicureanHikers 11 дней назад

    I had the same experience. Those sort of stove are useless at burning wood, couldn't get enough heat to boil a cup of water. Gave up with a Trangia as I couldn't put the thing out with the snuffing cap. Couldn't get it to work with my homemade alcohol burners. I no longer have the tools i made to cut slots in sheet metal. I made a two pronged centre punch that could make a chain of holes accurately spaced apart, when drilled left a millimetre or so between them. That was removed using a punch made from a bit of broken power hacksaw blade. Worked surprisingly well.

    A safe way to check for gas or air leaks is to get a jug or large bowl half fill it with warm water chuck in a load of washing up liquid and frantically whisk until you have a large head of bubbles like the head of a pint of beer ! Then you scoop up a handful of bubbles place it where you suspect a leak may be and if there is a leek it will be visually evident !

    4:45 this is not the way we handle this mess kit. You can hold all 3 pieces in ONE hand. The first 2 pieces you did right, now you have to swap the handle of the main cook pot to the other side. It will lock into a 90° angle. Then, you put the "bridge" of pan and cup across your palm, then put the handle of the main pot (that is locked into a 90° angle) over the "bridge" and close your palm. Now you can receive and handle main meal, sides and a drink with one hand. That's the clue to other once.

    I believe the lids are Trangia mini Tundra LID for the 27 series set and Trangia Tundra LID for the 25 set. Not pretty but servicable is a Toaks 140mm lid, pinch together the under side bulge, a lot of adjusting needed as it curlles a lot. Only, eventually fits the 27 Outer Pot. Thanks for sharing

    Well, I recently bought a new Thermarest X-Lite NXT. Amazon had the best price, near half what some hiking shops charge. Given all the excess layers you have there, it's probably cost you more that I paid, weighs 5 times more & takes up 10 times more pack space as well. I'm keto - no excess body fat at all, so the standard sized X-Lite is enough for my comfort. There are similar tech, though thicker cheaper, wider & only slightly heavier mats, Sea to Summit for example is generally regarded at the most comfortable. As far as protection from the ground, most hikers use a tent floor footprint such as Tyvek. Personally, I just use one of those extra thick & robust domestic space blanket/tarps as a footprint + thermal reflector under the tent floor & sleeping mat. I'm probably not going to camp out below -5C or so, so I don't need the X-Therm.

    I've found a way of cooking rice that suits me. Bring twice as much water by volume as rice to a boil. Add rice and simmer for fifteen minutes with the lid on so as not to lose any water as steam. Take off the heat and let stand for five minutes or untill all the water has been absorbed. It will still be oiping hot. Add whatever seasoning, veg and meat at the beging. Way better than any dehydrated meal.

    I occasionally burn lump charcoal in my Nano. I'm not sure of the temperature, but aluminum does melt way before stainless steel. So, a stainless steel washer glued in instead? Question: Will it fold with that. I have had some huge long hot fires in a Nano, I'm guessing the price you pay is for some good quality stainless. Never had a part warp. An off brand stove is a good idea, cheaper, frankly, some perform better than what is sold for it, to clip in. The stove at the bottom should lower the center of gravity, the lower the gas line coming out a good thing, too?
