      I’m really glad you got some value out of it. I would do the NP 45 again but there are other hitting strips. I like better than the ET hybrid these days. If you go and check out my Bullseye 3-D review, that’s my personal favorite product right now. as far as foam height, I would recommend 1 inch. I’ve got 5/8, and it’s too narrow. Three-quarter inch may be OK, but I think 1 inch would be best. Hope this helps, reach out if you need anything else.

    I play a titleist head, x flex, 60g low torque, low launch ordinarily. So got an x flex blank in the mid launch version, 72g, tip trimmed it 1”, cut it to 43.5, spine aligned it, then fitted the adapter. I play a midsize grip with 5 wraps of tape. This gave me the feel I wanted. Absolute fairway finder, so stable, loads smoothly and feels like you hit it with the profile of the club, I can aim left edge and really go at it and it just goes straight or drops slightly left to right. Cutting down to 43.5 puts it about 3/4” shorter at the hosel than most off the rack clubs.

    I found it interesting that you don’t believe the higher compression balls aren’t for slower swingers. That seems contrary to many others on YT and what the marketing says from the golf ball companies. I swing the driver at 85mph, and prefer a softer feeling ball. What I’ve found with the higher compression models is the lack of forgiveness they have on mishits. The lower compression balls don’t seem to punish you as much, but usually spin less. I’m on a quest to find the ball for my swing speed that would give me the best chance of lowering my score. Would that be a higher compression, more spin, harder feel, or a lower compression, less spin, softer feel? Which brand/model would it be (price not being a consideration) in your opinion?

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd 27 дней назад

      I’m an engineer by education, that’s also why I’m a huge nerd! Anyway, I believe what I learned in engineering school to be correct, that the most energy is conserved in a collision involving objects with zero deformation. It would stand to reason a harder ball will deform less, thus more energy is transferred into the vector of the launch angle. But mine is an unpopular opinion, lol!! Anyway, I’d recommend a titleist pro v1. It’s on the softer side which makes it feel great, but it controls spin off the driver and spins great off a wedge. At our speeds, we don’t need to worry about excess spin, so it would be a great choice. After that, I’d recommend my fave the Kirkland, just cause it performs well but doesn’t carry the same monetary significance when we are having an off day!! Hope this helped. Mike

    • @sscully67
      @sscully67 27 дней назад

      @@TheGolfNerd thank you, it makes sense. I know the ProV1X would feel firmer, but would more spin help or hinder, you think? I’ve hit both balls and liked the softer feel of the ProV1, so I guess having that confidence could naturally help you score better.

    Good video 👍 Only one thing that’s incorrect and that’s the stiffness. I’ve worked in a big brands custom build and repair centre doing all sorts and any time you shorten a shaft you make it stiffer whether it’s from the tip or butt end. It’s due to taking away leverage so the shorter you make it the stiffer it gets and you can test this by having the head in one hand and grip on the other like you did here and as you move the grip hand further down the shaft and try and flex it the stiffer it gets. Once your hand is halfway down you’ll barely be able to flex it at all! Granted like you said adding weight to the head will make the shaft feel softer but because you’re shortening it, it’s just counteracting that so essentially it’ll feel similar to the original flex if not a little bit stiffer still. Hope all that makes sense!

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd Месяц назад

      Thanks for the thoughtful write up. I have to respectfully disagree as I am taking what I’ve shared from one of the best fitters in the world, Ian Fraser. As I say in the video, the grip end of the stiffest portion of the shaft if you remove this you decrease the overal stiffness. If you cut from the tip end, the weakest part of the shaft, you increase the stiffness. Hope this clears things up.

    • @the_full_english
      @the_full_english Месяц назад

      @@TheGolfNerd with the greatest of respect it is still wrong and Ian Fraser is wrong! Agreed the butt end is stiffer than the tip so when cutting the same amount off each it will not make it as stiff when butt trimming as opposed to tip trimming but it still makes it stiffer than the original length, that’s basic physics and to do with leverage and deflection. Below is a link to a really interesting video where a club builder has done such a thing with an uncut, butt trimmed and tip trimmed shaft and shows the differing measurements of stiffness… ruclips.net/video/Juw6aCNlgDE/видео.htmlfeature=shared I’m not being pig headed it’s just good to know these things especially if you’re someone such as yourself who seems as interested in the technical side of golf as I am. @@hunterbiles9974 it’s not my video, that’s someone else’s video I linked just to show that shortening makes it stiffer either end you cut from. Happy to be of any help though. I know for fact as well that one of the PGA tour players signed for who I used to work for famously has always used a shorter driver, I believe 44.25”. And he doesn’t go up in flex, he uses the flex suited to his swing speed as normal.

    • @Jeremy_Walker
      @Jeremy_Walker Месяц назад

      @@the_full_english You are correct. It’s basic physics. Not really a debate. The shorter the less leverage and the less flex. The confusion is probably in the adding weight to the head which would induce more flex.

    Thank you very much for the great review. We have seen such great response on our putters, which has made this last year a whirlwind. The thing you mentioned that has really set us apart (other than the absolutely beautiful looks of the putters) is how we can move the weighting SO much farther outward than other putters. Wood is 10X lighter than steel, so we can move the weights much closer to the outside of the putter vs mass made steel putters. This is what helps to make sure our putters hit consistent distances and straighter when hitting the ball off center. Thanks again for the great job and the best of luck in the future. Head to head with 8 iron or 7 iron, how does this club do better? Just curious. Less interaction with grass blades of the rough?

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd Месяц назад

      Couple things. First, it’s the length and lie of a putter, which makes these shots markedly easier. Second, the sole of the club makes it very difficult to completely duff. Finally, the leading edge is very rounded and prevents digging. The loft is 42° so close to a modern pitching wedge. I’m sure the ping is great too but I haven’t used it. But for folks who need a little confidence boost in chipping, this thing is amazing.

    I am a lifelong Golf Pro. My trusty old clubs felt like I was at a disadvantage recently. With this encouragement I updated all of my clubs in groups. One group consisted of Driver, 1 iron, 2 iron, 3 iron. Following some research I replaced them with Ping 425. However I had the standard 3 wood shaft put in the Driver. I had a matching 3 wood shaft put into a new 7 wood. In the new 3 wood, I put a standard Driver shaft. I also added a 17* Hybrid. Results : Driver: I saw no measurable distance change. But my fairway percentage boosted from 69% to 78%. 3 wood : I hit the crap out of this club and its distance is nearly the same as the Driver. It's longer than the 1 iron it replaced, although it lacks the versatility. 7 wood : Another amazing performer, one that hits a high soft landing draw. Hybrid : This was the biggest surprise. This club is long and hits a low draw, bringing back some of the loss of versatility of the 1 iron. Overall Im thrilled with the changes. The G425 series are super easy to hit.

    Shorter 1” makes the shaft stiffer approx 1 flex. No?

      Not usually. But shortening the shaft at the grip end, you are removing the stiffest part of the shaft. By cutting this, you reduce the overall stiffness.

    I don’t usually have golf balls for more than a few holes before losing them. However, I tend to play 2 balls per hole which is good for comparison. For me Srixon AD333 goes so far, beat a Callaway power drive by about 30 yards. Smoked both. The Calloway was great for approaching shots and chips around the green. Kirkland was good off the tee but surprisingly I lost some distance on approach shots. Either that or had some crazy back spin? Not very scientific from me but I’m enjoying comparing shots and balls to see what combination suits me best. Will work up to better balls when my game improves. Would hurt donating multiple pro vs to the bushes at this moment in time. Calloway supersoft and Srixon AD333 have been decent so far for me as a high handicapper.

    I used your method and online calculator to determine my swing-weights, but I used an aluminum angle iron to find my balance point. I found this cheap swing-weight device at swingw.com ($34.95, free shipping). The first method got me pretty close, but the other device was a lot more accurate. As a 72-year-old golfer, my swing speed is typically in the high 80s & low 90s mph. I set my drivers at C8 swing weight which is the upper setting for women’s clubs. I cut my Callaway Rogue ST Max 10.5 (+2 for 12.5) to 44” length and an older Ping G15 10.5 to 43” length. I use the Ping as a mini driver for tighter fairways & short layups under 200 yards. I used Brampton Golf Lead Tape 1/2” x 100” (5 mil), easy to cut and apply. Where you apply the tape can affect the ball fly due to change of the CG.
