The Stack System and Mevo Plus Are Fully Integrated!! Workout Example Demonstrating The Mevo
At age 70 (7.8 hcp) I have developed arthritis in my hands. I have a typical Titleist driver with a stock shaft. I might hit it pretty good starting the round but as I get fatigued I begin to struggle. I got the TaylorMade mini driver, 13.5, and it has been good for me. I hit it as far or farther on most holes and finish the round stronger. I like this video because I have been considering shortening the shaft on the Titleist and I want to get off to good start if I try it. Thanks Nerd!
My pleasure!! I recently experimented with the mini driver as well!!
Question for you. If cutting the shaft down at the butt end looses weight at the butt end, and adding weight at the head is advised to counteract this lose in weight, aren't you just shifting the fulcrum point even closer to the head? Both these alterations would make the head feel heavier, no?
if you were to only cut the butt end of the shaft and not add weight, you are still shifting the fulcrum point closer to the head, right?
No this is inaccurate. If you grab a broom in your house and hold it from the extreme end and try to lift it you’ll notice it’s damn heavy. If you then reach halfway down and do the same thing, you’ll notice it feels drastically lighter. From a physics standpoint, you are shortening the moment arm and it takes less force to lift it as a function of the lever arm length. But when you add weight to the head, it makes it feel heavy as it did originally, similar to the broom example.
@@TheGolfNerd ha that makes perfect sense. Thank you. I got one more... I currently game a driver with a 70g stiff shaft that is 45.75" long. I want to cut it an inch and NOT add weight to the head. My overall goal is to make it feel lighter as well as shorter (it is just too heavy). Am I correct with this thinking or would head weight still be needed?
@@imejandiskate it depends how much you shorten the club and what the current swing weight is. For example, let’s say it’s playing really heavy at D6. If you shorten it by 1/2”, that’ll lower it from D6 to D3, approximately. If you shorten by an inch, around D0, which for most will begin to feel too lite. More than an inch would necessitate adding weight in my opinion. Good luck!!
I carry all 3 Smart Soles 4 Black C/G/S haven’t tried the new L. I lengthened my C to 36 and use it very effectively as a PW from 105-65 by altering my backswing Full to Half and new 4 model groves produce good spin. I also use the C with a putting stroke to great effect. For shots 65 and in I use the Gap G 50° model. All in all these are great clubs.
100% agree. They’re great.
Then just shut up and don’t buy
I think it’s a good club and recommend it, just don’t like the logo
Golf gaming
This may very well end up as the only comment!! lol!!
There are some flawed physics in this video. Unless you are cutting off more than 3 inches. You don’t need to add stiffness or weight. The shorter shaft will be naturally stiffer. For example if you buy -1.5 clubs they DO NOT use a stiffer shaft, heavier shaft or change the head weight. This is all misleading information. Shorter shaft will naturally add torsional rigidity, because the club head is now closer to the leverage point, your grip.
Man you are welcome to do whatever you like but the stiffest part of any shaft is the handle which is where most folks remove material. Once you add weight to the head to reach swing weight, you will definitely change the flex of the shaft. The idea that folks don’t add weight back when they cut off 1.5” is pretty wild. Good luck to ya!!
@@TheGolfNerdI’m aware but the shorter club accounts for this. You don’t need to add head weight. If you just shorten your driver to 43-44” it’s fine as is. It doesn’t make the shaft less stiff. I cut down an old Ping G5 from 45.5 to 43.5 and it’s perfect. It was a 55g SS shaft and I felt no difference. My swing speed is over 120 so if this was a major problem I’m pretty sure I would know.
@@itshadouken man I’m telling you, swinging weight is a very personal decision. I am really glad that’s working for you, but that club is extremely low swinging weight. Probably C0. That does not work for the majority of people swinging a golf club. Have a great season.
@@TheGolfNerd It feels exactly the same as it did before just now it’s shorter 🤷♂️ don’t know what to tell tou
Why didn’t you hit any of your shots from the sand? It is a sand wedge, right?
Fair point. I just figured more folks would want to know dry ball data, looks, sound and feel.
Wilson triad is my current favorite. Performs almost identical to the pro v1 and Staff. Just slightly softer around the green and $20 cheaper than the other 2
Sounds like an interesting option!
Why in the world would anyone think a yellow ball would play any different than a white one ? Urethane is urethane, is it not?
I never understood it, but that’s why I wanted data to see.
Have you looked at the new Lite model?
I haven’t. But I can let them know there is some interest and they will probably send me a sample for review. Thanks for the idea!!
@@TheGolfNerd I was looking at talking with you about the softy then I saw the lite. I’ll wait to see review. Other thought is after seeing your setup I like the hitting strip with a large mat the whole up around it. The height of the softy makes it hard to match. The Litr might be easier but I don’t want to sacrifice quality. I will be interested.
Every round I find Vice Pro and Pro Plus balls are a very good day. I might even actually spend $$ on them. {I win all my ProV1’s during a couple annual golf tournaments for charity}
I reviewed the vice pro last year and I agree. It compares very favorably with the pro v1!
i like my 48 inch driver it's so good. i can go further ... now i have 44.5 good enough
The Kirkland ball was rated 45/100 by testing. Plus, vthe quality of the ball and consistency ball to ball was equally poor compared to a Prov1 and other balls. I would never play nor recommend the Kirkland ball or anything Kirkland. I will stick to the Titleist ball. However if I had choose between the Kirkland and the Top Flight ball, I would take Top Flight.
Hey man, you do you!
I would never play a Kirkland ball. They are inconsistent ball for ball which changes the playing characteristics and why they are so cheap vs other higher pricec balls. The reason why Titleist, Taylormade and other top brands are so popular with better players is the consistency ball for ball and why the price is higher. It the quality and control. Srixon Q star had issues of the cores being different and out of round. I would play a Top flight ball over the Kirkland any time.
Top Flite over Kirkland??? I mean, folks are free to make whatever decision they care to make, but I’ve never seen anything from a Kirkland that made me believe it was a vastly inferior product. Either way, please play whatever ball that you like!!
Hey! Would the pickup of 30-50 fps matter if your projector is maxing out at 60 fps? Just want to know because I have the Benq TK700 as well. Thanks so much!
This is a great question and I wanted to make sure I got accurate info. I’ve reached out to my contact at BenQ and I’ll circle back.
Keep me updated! Also I reached out to SurfThing who are heavily involved in both the Esports and Golf Simulation space. They had come to the conclusion that even though somebody has over 60 fps it caps at 60 fps because that is the maximum the display can project out! When it comes to the Benq TK700 projector, the maximum it can do is 4k at 60hz however it is optimized for gaming at 1080p at 240 hz with 4.2 ms of lag! I am curious to know which gameplay is better, 4k at 60hz or 1080p at 240 hz, you should do a video on it! It really would be helpful! Also I am a golf nerd too lol
Only a 60 yard difference from your 7 iron and driver? Whatever. Anyhow, I've tested the current Kirkland vs. the current Pro v1 and for me at least, the v1 was "maybe" 4-5 yards shorter. The Kirkland is a good ball however and feels great off the irons and performs super around the greens. Price is now $28.99 for 2 dozen when bought in the store. Can't beat that.
I agree with the Kirkland sentiment. Wish you didn’t have to be snarky, but it’s the internet, and I’m no longer surprised.
@@TheGolfNerd Just found it odd the miniscule distance difference between your driver and 7 iron. Maybe look into a different driver.
500rpm on driver is significant. Id stay away from Kirkland, as their QC is awful, and the V3 is the worst iteration to date.
I completely understand that Kirkland‘s aren’t for everybody!
Great content, I play the Kirkland as well.
Thanks!! Long live the Kirkland! Lol
The Cut and ProV1 are hard to tell apart. The big difference is the Cut doesn’t advertise, sponsor or endorse and sells factory direct. They cost $19.95/dozen. Seventy percent of the ProV1 goes to advertising, sponsorships and endorsements. ProV1 is marked up 50% at the pro shop. They cost $55/dozen. The balls are impossible for the average player to differentiate.
The Cut offers very good value but I have to stop short of saying I couldn’t see a difference with a Pro V1. It’s similar especially for the price point, but the Pro V1 does edge it out in my testing.
Wilson Staff is best seriously I been testing it is legit
Several folks have suggested this in the comments, I’m going to definitely include Wilson in next year’s comparison!
isn't a meh comparision cause each brand has a 4 piece ball?
I’m sorry I’m not following you.
Anytime you shorten a club it gets stiffer not more flex
If it was a constant wall thickness and diameter I would agree, but because you are cutting off the stiffest part of the shaft in the handle and then adding a lot of weight to the head, it behave softer.
I do enjoy your videos, very concise and to the point. I'm a Maxfli Tour / Vice Pro fanboy. I always have a double dozen Kirklands for one of the courses I play that has water in play on 15 o 18 holes! LOL. Vice has updated the Pro and Tour balls for 2024 but I haven't played them yet as I still have 5 dozen from last year and 3-4 Maxfli Tour. Anymore ball purchases and I'll be sleeping on the couch with them. The Cut Grey sounds very interesting to me though. Better get the blankets ready. Got my first Hole In One last week with the Maxfli Tour! And yes, they do lack a bit on greenside spin
Great comment!! Seems like our results and experiences align pretty well as I found the Vice Pro very good last year. The Cut Grey comes up a little short as compared to the Vice Pro, at least in my testing.
I switched to the Legato LTX3085 it’s low compression and 3 piece and good for under 100 mph swings, but performs and feels like a ProV1. $30 on EBAY. Knocked two strokes off my game but didn’t bust the wallet
Several other folks mentioned this ball. Sounds like a good performer, I’ll need to include it next year!
The whole point of this club for most people is to simplify getting out of sand and rough around the green, neither of which are even mentioned in this review.
Sorry you didn’t find it useful. Have a great season!
I think your point about not being a robot is spot on. For anyone who is over a 10 handicap, why would you not play the Kirkland?
Agree, 100%!
Just got a box of Legato balls from Amazon... Can't wait to see how they do.
I’m excited to try them as well. I’d love to hear what you think!!
Man, ur so AI. I had to finish watching this vid to make sure this wasn’t AI generated.
You should watch my old stuff! Lol! Just trying to provide golfers useful info.🤷♂️
@@TheGolfNerd ur doing great bro. Keep it up. 👍
What are your thoughts about the 50° vs the 42°. I’ve read that the 50° can give you the benefits of the 42°, but with a little more loft and spin. Thanks
I think you can use most wedges in a variety of ways, and certainly you could play bump and runs with the 50°. Having said that, the chipper is a dedicated club for those greenside chips and it is very good at this shot. So, if your wedge play is a strength and you can vary your shot type with a wedge, the 50° would work, but if you are losing strokes around the green, I’d recommend the 42° for it’s purpose built performance. Hope this helps!!
@@TheGolfNerdThanks for the input!
In independent test the Wilson staff beats the pro v1 in all categories as does the maxfli
I haven’t had a chance to try the Wilson, but the Maxfli was very impressive. Main down side of Maxfli I saw was greenside spin.
I'm half tempted to try my hybrid shaft on my driver. I hit my hybrid extremely consistent. 100g stiff flex. 42 inch. Anyone tried this?
Man I tried so many crazy things before I settled on the method I shared in this video. I for sure tried a 3 wood shaft before, but to do this and make it as good as possible you have to include the swingweight portion of the technique by adding weight. In other words, you won’t hurt anything to try what you mentioned, but I think you’ll find the swing weight way too lite and as a result, difficult to control. Good luck!!
@@TheGolfNerd you think the swing weight would be too light with a 100g shaft? I was using a 60g at 45 inch, then a 70g at 45. So I wonder if 100g at 42 would help keep it straight. I’m unconsciously accurate and consistent with my hybrid (probably the only club I can say that about). So I’m curious if the same shaft with a driver head would replicate the consistency, but with more distance naturally since it’s a driver head
@@brianbasile5228 if you have an adaptor that fits your driver, than make the change and try it for a round. Only you can decide if it works for you or not. Good luck!!
Haters are gonna hate. But this is the best putter I have ever owned. It's not leaving my bag any time soon. Thanks for the review.
Still love mine!!
2024 VICE PRO PLUS is where it’s at!
I tested that last year. I was impressed!
My favorite balls to find on the course… I had an all orange Pro Plus… losing that ball was a painful day… found it on the 1st hole and ended up losing it on 17 on a very good drive that must have caught a fescue mound… buying a dozen now
not a single graph thowing the data in the entire video, what a joke
Sorry you didn’t get any value from it. I’m sure you can find additional data elsewhere. Have a great season!
I have no idea how you're getting the Snell with 9 and 11mph less ball speed in your tests. There is now way that is accurate. I just tested out the new Prime 4.0 alongside the new Wilson Staff Model X. I played the Chrome Soft X most of last year. The Snell Prime 4.0 is every bit as long as both other balls I listed. I find it unbelievable that Dean Snell would release a ball lagging that far behinds the others. Something is off with you test.
Human testing is what it is, but I do try to present data that accurately reflects the performance that I see. Having said that, all of the balls that you just mentioned are higher compression 4 piece balls. Everyone who has used the 4.0 Snell has said it performs great, I wish the 3.0 had as well because I really wanted to see it perform well.
I’m interested to see you do a similar test with some 2 piece balls. Titleist TruFeel, Taylormade Distance+, Callaway Supersoft, etc. These balls are less expensive so potentially used by a larger amount of people. Then compare to the 3 piece balls.
Interesting idea. I’m thinking of performing a follow up and it’s either 2pc or 4pc.
@@TheGolfNerdUnderstandable. If you’re aiming for views, you may be better off going with 2 piece balls simply because a larger amount of people will be using those balls. Also be interesting to see a low compression vs medium compression vs high compression 2 piece balls regarding spin, distance, etc. Woukd be interesting to see if the swing speed and ball compression stuff is true. Is it obvious yet that I play a 2 piece ball? Haha Either way I enjoyed this video and appreciate you putting out this content.
@@randomguy32150 you’ve given me something to think about for sure. Glad you enjoyed it, and that’s what views means to me by the way, people like it. Thanks for reaching out.
Just buy the 48 pack of Maxfli Tours with the $20 off coupon that Dick's offers a few times per year. You get 48 balls for $96 which is what you pay for the "cheaper" balls. Also, it's nowhere near as firm as the TP5-X. It's closer to a TP5 or ProV1. I can't play the TP5-X or ProV1X because they don't launch as high and spin too much for me.
what about sugar
I’ve had several good recommendations for balls that I should have included, I’ll try to include some of these the next time!
i always love it when I find a ProV1 in the woods while I'm looking for my cheap balls.
That is quite the upgrade!!
It’s not the color of the ball that makes it perform less it’s the type of cover. The matte colors don’t fly anywhere near as good as the the “glossy” covers
I hadn’t heard this before. Appreciate the tip!
@@TheGolfNerd I’ve tested the theory with a few balls and I believe it. The yellow kirklands are good balls, no difference in those or the whites. It’s when they change the cover from urethane to matte, they get less aerodynamic somehow
That’s really interesting. Thanks!!
I must admit, I tried every ball I could get my hands on to see if I could find a ball without the absurd Titleist price point that still played great. I have not tried the Maxfli...but, I did try the Oncore and found, for me anyway, it was easily the equal of Titleist at a reasonable price. If you haven't, give it a try.
Very cool. Thanks for the heads up! How long have you been playing it?
How different is smart sole chipper and the smart sole Sand? Can I get one or other for both areas?
The sole designs are similar but they are pretty different clubs. My recommendation, if you want a more dedicated club for around the green, I’d go chipper. If you want something more forgiving for 30-75 yard shots, I’d go SW. Hope this helps!!
These balls are good, but you can’t beat the durability of the Pro V1.
It held up well in the review for sure.
A prov1 is honestly a terrible choice for your average golfer. AVX maybe but most people are gonna see way too much spin that they can’t control
I respect your opinion but couldn’t disagree more strongly. I think the pro v1 and other balls like the ones featured in this comparison are a great ball for anyone.
Unfortunately my best rounds are played using the most expensive golf ball there is, the Titleist pro v1x. Yea they are still king and worth the cost.
The amazing part is just how long they have maintained that dominance. In business these days it just doesn’t seem like brands can pull it off for as long as they have. All respect here for Titleist.
Thanks, great review. I'm a slow-swing speed 18-20 handicapper who's been playing those softer 2-piece balls, but I've decided to move up to a 3-piece. I've started out with the Maxfli Tour. Dick's multi-box discounts bring the price down to around $30 a box which is good value. I'm interested in Kirkland but I'm not a Cosco member.
Love it!! Good luck on your transition!!
I have tried many different balls and one observation is that there are very few ones which are consistent in all aspects like ball flight, spin, greenside control etc and in this regard Prov1 is the best!
I agree but at that price point, doesn’t it have to be?
Snell is the only one to come close. Kirklands are TOTAL Garbage. See there’s a REASON every single RUclips video on golf balls say ProV-1 killer? Because the STANDARD has been set. PERIOD. I know they are expensive. But there’s a reason.
That’s why it was my overall pick as well. Have a great season!
The snell prime 4.0 is a great ball. I have tested it against all the premium balls for 2024 and it just performs.
Really wish I had included it instead. I didn’t love the performance of the 3.0.
