    There was never anything wrong with Seth Kelsey, he was an excellent competitor, and an excellent fencer, he just didn’t look graceful doing it.

    If a hand touch is your goal, which is a low percentage target, then you are playing the game wrong. Going for the hand in Epee is preparation, and your real target is your next move after your opponent reacts to your attack of the hand, and that second target is always a high percentage target like the shoulder.

    I’ve fenced Laurie Shong and I was never hit under my hand, not even once! He hit me on the side and top of my hand from positions I could never even imagine, but never under my hand!

    One of the hardest working athletes in the history of the sport. My old coach trained with him a couple of times and said when all the other fencers would take breaks during training camp Koloblov be doing footwork in front of a mirror or point control drills, etc. all day every day. Loved watching him.

    With respect to flèche attacks, RUclips allowing viewers to set the video speed sure is useful! This example analyzes the flèche in an elite setting. Fair enough, but I’d like to hear informed opinions on how (and when) less experienced fencers could employ the attack. 🤺

      Well, they screwed over saber fencers being able to utilize this particular scenario but the main idea works in any OTHER sport. Set a pattern that your opponent responds to. You have to be experienced enough to set a pattern and see that your opponent is responding to it. If you know baseball, think fastball fastball fastball curve or, even better, curve curve curve fastball. But you shouldn't do the same pattern over and over. Do your fleche when you think your opponent is expecting something slow or non-offensive and preferably when they are taking a half-step or hop forward.

    Sorry to disagree.. but I think you've got this hit completely wrong. There was no great feat of strategic genius by Kolobkov here. He actually got somewhat lucky. His final gesture was not him telling Fernandez "Stop complaining. I out-thought you." Pavel was immediately acknowledging to Fernandez (who thought there might be something wrong with his equipment) that even though he had earned what, in most situations, would have been at least a double hit... his lightning quick lunge attack on this occasion had landed on Kolobkov's mask... and for that reason had not registered. This used to happen quite a lot... so most fencers would recognise that gesture. You would strike the mask (sometimes full-on) with your attack... and for whatever reason... even though you could clearly feel the hit with your point and arm... it would not register. That is what it looks like here... judging by both fencers responses.

    This qualifies as a 'flick to the toe' which is call pure bs. How his scores with it is a matter of twicking the tip of the blade. Off the shelf epee won't register a hit, and should not anyway. One of the reasons i quick modern fencing - the bulshit piles up and makes less and less sense. Watch it carefully - there is NO HIT ON ANYONE's toe, there is A SLAP.

    I think it's more simple then this - Garozzo let him too close, and not fast enough to respond to flesches. He allowed Steffen to come close enough for him to commit to flesches that are comfortable for his body height.

    Well Christ, where are the parries!? The beat action is clearly telegraphing you that opponent trying to get you to attack. ITS A TRAP! 😁

  • @rjevskyfencing777
    @rjevskyfencing777 Год назад

    Tried that one. Worked like a charm! But it woorks with more experienced fences, who read footwork and think of distance. Less experienced folks don't bite it.

  • @rjevskyfencing777
    @rjevskyfencing777 Год назад

    His distance was "just right", plus the opponent was pretty responsive to his moves, making him easier to lead. Kolobkov landed a perfect combination in this one!

    Those snake-fast attacks from Parks... Crazy. He hurled several long lunges in split second. Heinzer only scored somewhat out of luck, with last second ditch by twisting out of the Parks blade's way.

      not just luck, those body contortions of ripostes after parry 4 are extremely difficult.

  • @rjevskyfencing777
    @rjevskyfencing777 Год назад

    Errr.. that's generic B-Advance. It works when your opponent is not paying attention to your footwork. Those who pay attention will sure exploit the moment when you got both of your feet together - the most vulnerable pose. Your only likely option would be - squat.

    Lugones got too active on his attacks, ended up closing distance against Limardo, giving him more opportunities for action. If he would of stayed in defense and kept Limardo at good distance, there would of been less opportunity for Limardo to attack.

  • @rjevskyfencing777
    @rjevskyfencing777 Год назад

    Perhaps it works for once, but you certainly wasting plenty of energy on so much movements, that eventually you will burn out closer to the end of the match. However this is somewhat what I like to do - number of fencers noted that my footwork isn't typical, and not easy to predict.

    Make sure you show REPEAT video without stops too. Watching those moves - Fischera could easily hit him in the mask, if he would of watched. Many times when opponents to low, stratched lunges- opponents forget about the arm and mask becoming an easy and closest target.

    This move could easily be his own death trap, if his beat-parry would of failed. To recover out of such low body position and overstretched legs would take significant time and strength, while opponent can land several hits at his mask, shoulder or back.

  • @Druid_Ignacy
    @Druid_Ignacy Год назад

    How is it possible that after succesful parry there wasn't a window for riposte? I mean, I know I can make technical renewals, in practice I do that, but the theory behind it slips away from me. Surely it isn't mere psychology and aggresion?

  • @digimaks

    In our club we have strip vs strip battle - two teams against each other. And it's a whole different ball game, since even not so experienced fencers can take out an experienced fencer due to large number. So it's definitely very unpredictable.

    • @digimaks
      @digimaks Год назад

      @@bigbearfencing We have it like a team deathmatch/elimination. Each fencer must have at least one foot inside their team's strip. (fighting perpendicular against adjacent strip). When someone gets hit - they leave the battle and step aside. Battle just keeps going until one of the teams runs out of players! Last time we had this, I haven't noticed how quickly our team lost 8 players, and I was the only one left from our team to face 7 opponents jabbing hits at me! hahaha! Second match - the opposite had happened.
