I have never seen this bout nor do I know the result, but let me try to predict - all I need for this is just to look at the sportsmen’ countries (just in case, no racism or nationalism here, just talking about schools of fencing as they are now) to easily guess the result - Ukrainian school outclasses the German by far, in my opinion, and so such a tactic (that may work in a low-level German meta) just won’t work on a Ukrainian guy beyond the first couple of hits or so, and he will win, maybe even with a major score advantage. Look forward to see if I am right in your next video! Cheers 🥂

I want to stay out of nationalistic arguments myself, what I enjoy about these types of matches is that they force unusual situations and thinking. Herey was a much higher ranked fencer at the time, his adaptations give insight in how an elite fencer thinks on strip. In a way, I am thankful for the variety and uniqueness of the top fencers as they force each other to show different aspects of their game and mindset to the rest of us.
