Louisa Nixon Live at The Little R'Ale House
The Little R'ale House put on some amazing events throughout the year and Saturday 20th July was no exception. Leanne takes charge of the GoPro to go film her first event since I had an event to attend earlier in the day. Here we have the fabulous Louisa Nixon who usually stars in a well-known ABBA tribute group, giving it her all for the wonderful micro-pub community.

Wellingborough Leyland Foundry Locomotive Sheds filmed before demolition

16th July 2024 Wellingborough Leyland trading estate originally started out life in 1852 as an Ironstone Quarry for Blackwell's Northampton. Blackwell who had leased the land from the Dean & Chapter of Peterborough Cathedral. The Dean & Chapter lived in Irthlingborough Hall. By 1866, Thomas Butlin (Who had furnaces on Cannon Street.) was looking for a piece of land to grow his ironstone furnace...
Attenuation basin (New lake) development at Ditchford with extra disused railway scene
Просмотров 78414 дней назад
30th June 2024 Because of the amount of Nene wetlands Wellingborough is about to lose in aid of Stanton Cross housing development. An attenuation basin has been created at Ditchford quite close to the ancient Roman settlement at Chester House. Since early 2022 I have seen this land change drastically and this Saturday something strange has got me questioning. What have they found? I also decide...
Shattered Skies over Wellingborough during Sywell Air Show 2024
Просмотров 87821 день назад
Every year the silent skies are shattered by the sound of distant thunder as Sywell Aerodrome hold their annual Air Show. This year was no different. Over the weekend I filmed a few fly passes and then I filmed the Red Arrows display from a far distance. Ryan 'MG' Palmer also captured a few scenes so I've added them in too. Since I've not been to an air show since Mildenhall airshow in 1997, I ...

Thanks for posting, an important historical record for the future. Shame the buildings are too far gone and cannot be re-purposed like those at the old gasworks site on the other side of the railway. I remember the old water tower here, a Wellingborough beacon. I am sure the tank was painted yellow for a time before the British Leyland livery was applied.

My father was the foreman there in the 1950s and I recall his office being directly over the furnace which exploded underneath. He was in his office and heard a strange noise and was making his way out of the door to investigate when the explosion happened and destroyed his office causing him to be thrown breaking his little finger on his right hand, but he avoided the worst as he had just left his desk.

Purple I have to say this video touched my heart, it's truly amazing. Not because of the drone footage but because it highlights your commitment and dedication in documenting all the changes (Railway, Road and other construction) in your local area and the effects good or bad they have had and possibly will have in the future of the local people. I think in Documenting such things you are providing a lasting record for future generations, your boys are too young to appreciate those changes at the moment but the footage will be there for when they are old enough. More Power to your Elbow Purple, I for one appreciate the work you put in. 👌👍.

Only coming to this just now .. i worked there from 1979 to 1992. I was a "Kiln Burner", responsible for burning the bricks, controlling the drying and firing temperatures and producing the finished article. Love the enthusiasm you have. And smiled at some of the naiveté. The numbers on the bricks have nothing to do with Kiln numbers. When they were being pressed there was no definite knowledge of which kiln they would be set in. You ask what a facing machine is. Some bricks would be plain with no facing. Others would have different colour facing. So Cheviot would be red facings, there would be a whiteish/grey facing (brindle), a yellow facing, etc. The facing on the brick determined the colour of the house or other building made with the bricks. The facing material came in powdered form and was pressed onto the green clay brick during production. You suggest that the big lights in a shed were to help dry out the bricks. I can assure you that as the bricks came off the presses and were stacked - by hand into a defined structure to fit the kiln - they were picked up by a forklift truck and put in a kiln and this is were they were dried out. The lights were simply to give light. You refere to hoppers as cement hoppers. There was no cement involved in the production of Oxford clay fletton bricks. The clay dug out of the ground would be formed into tiny granuals. It is these granuals, like gravel, that would come down into the hoppers. These granuals eould then be pressed to form the shape of a brick. Break any brick open and you can still see how these granuals form the structure of the brick. When you show the drone footage looking along the railway track, the remnants of the kiln on the right hand side of the track with the structure of the lower part of the chambers still visible is CK 1. (Carr Kiln 1) A little further into the distance justva bit more to the right is CK 3. CK 2 was a little further to the right just out of shot and was tge biggest brick kiln in the world with 80 chambers each holding, if memory serves me right, 80,000 bricks. All of the kilns on the other side of the railway track were Hoffman Kilns (HK 18, 19, 20, etc.) Theyverre all smaller than the Carr Kilns. When I was made redundant in 92 there were 500 million bricks stacked, unsold. It will be of little surprise tonlearn that last year (2023) the UK imported 500 million bricks, much of them from Pakistan were colleagues of mine were sent to train workers in LBC run factories over there innthe 1970's. Mad world. Hope this is useful.
