Interesting question. It depends on the package you installed. Mindthegapps is generally "clean" so it might not have anything extra. Also you can choose the flavor. If you don't need certain parts of gapps then you can install the minimal version(nano, pico etc) and possibly gain some battery life that way.

Make sure to use the latest playintegrity fix module, and clear the cache of the apps. Sometimes wallet updates and then the module becomes out of date.

I hear you about not having tap pay on GrapheneOS. Rooted lineage isn't very secure from a tampering perspective if you have physical access to the device, though the data is encrypted, but I think the main risk comes from the user installing false apps or modules. It really depends on how much you trust the software/module that you are using. All of that said, GrapheneOS still doesn't support tap pay; they would have to develop a version of wallet like they did for Android Auto, but I'm not sure that's possible.

@@CyberPunkEdu honestly i think im just going to get a contactless revolut card and put it in the back of my phone case and transfer money to it when I want to tap to pay. Gets past even needing gpay at all. Great video though to anyone that wants to do this

I haven't noticed major differences, but since it follows postmarketos there may be a few things that lag behind. I did notice that when gnome was updated the gnome-mobile installation didn't work through kupferboostrap, so they are still updating the packages, but the phone functions see to be at a similar state, if anything maybe a little behind pmos.

Unfortunately the notifications don't pass through to Ubuntu Touch. You will only see the notifications while being inside Waydroid with the screen on.

The method is slightly different in terms of package names, but the method is rougly the same. According to the install page the recovery image is now called "boot.img". fastboot flash boot boot.img Then boot to recovery and proceed. Even though the instructions don't mention it, there are extra files dtbo and vbmeta. So if using boot.img alone doens't get you to recovery then first flash those: fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img Then you can sidload the lineageos package etc. Let me know how it goes and if you need further help.

Be sure to check that you're using the playintegrityfix module from the description (latest version - there may be an update, or one on the way if wallet just updated) rather than the safetynet fix in the original video. You can try reinstalling the wallet app, and remember to clear the app cache at the end too.

That's a good question. From what I can tell, the kernel will update with the system updates via the updater: postmarketos.org/blog/2022/10/23/v22.06.3-release/ . It mentions just to update and not necessarily reinstall.

Good thought! Osmand seems to work (Only if installed from Play Store). I couldn't get Organic maps to work though. As for the GrapheneOS page, it is a bit hidden. I only found it just before making the video lol.

From what I have read, GSI is having issues on that device. You might be able to use a debloated version of the stock rom though. Unfortunately, others also experience the no SMS issue.

You bring up an interesting point. Unified Push was discussed for GrapheneOS, but from what I understand, it only works with certain apps. More apps should be developed to work with Unified Push, but that is up to the developers unfortunately.

GSI can be a bit tricky. It might be a network settings issue. On the Dialer try *#***#4636**#*#* , then select the network to the one with the most options. Do you have PHH Treble settings on the device? If you have different SIM slots, also try the other one. ie SIM1 vs SIM2

Docking to HDMI monitor is possible with PostmarketOS. However, the OnePlus 6t requires a special DisplayLink adapter to test it. I don't have that adapter yet, so I cannot confirm with GNOME vs Plasma etc. I'll test it out if I can get an adapter.

Unfortunately, GSI is not really a thing with GrapheneOS. This is for security purposes. It has to update and work with specific kernels and firmware, which is why there are only a few supported devices. More information here: discuss.grapheneos.org/d/9133-support-for-gsi/5 . If you are really wanting to use GrapheneOS, then I do think it's worth getting a Pixel device. Keep in mind the life of the device will be only a little longer than the OEM supported updates. It will still work after this, but it won't get the latest GrapheneOS updates, which theoretically makes it less secure.

Unfortunately there's no easy way to tell what will be available in the future. Samsung S20 FE is relatively "new" in the Ubuntu Touch world. Keep an eye on the forum: forums.ubports.com/category/60/samsung and device page for the kinds of devices thare are supported devices.ubuntu-touch.io/ It really depends on the hardware capabilities and someone being willing to port it to UT.

You're right; that's something to focus on in the videos. It depends on each device, but from a software perspective, as setup in this video, the idle battery life is quite good. I left it for a day or so and there was minimal drain. With general use, it was dropping 1% every 5 mins of constant use. Again it depends on screen brightness and power profiles. I will have to do a comparison with other OSes. Thanks for the thoughts on this.

@@CyberPunkEdu If the percentage is accurate, that's pretty good, that means 500 mins for 100% which is around 8 hours, but of course it depends on the OS packages used and the apps used and for how long and the software optimization. One thing I wish in the future is an OLED display in Linux phones (combined with proper black dark-mode) which will improve battery life significantly.

In my experience with postmarket os on the poco f1 which I just grabbed the prebuilt image and flashed it into my phone i didnt have as good as battery backup you are specifying, considering these two phones are nearly identical, the bad battery life could be due to the fact that i had replaced this phone's battery. I then reinstalled android because i was annoyed by having to constantly plug the phone into the charger
