When I tested, there were notification sounds, but no visual notifications. As for battery, it does drain more since at the moment it can interfere with the phone deep sleep. But theses issues are on github, so hopefully improvements will come soon.
Of course that means that you need to have a spare phone with the actual android app since Wayroid in the PinePhone has no camera access so you can't sync WhatsApp Web from there directly
It's good to see that it works but what about the security aspect ? Isn't the whole point of using UT that you don't want certain Apps snooping around and reporting your location or your messages ?...Is there any way that WhatsApp can be reporting anything to anybody through Waydroid ?
That's an interesting question. As far as I know, WayDroid runs in a contained environment, so nothing leaks in or out in terms of data. It is however able to make use of the internet connection, so who knows. As for WhatsApp, it would send its own data to Facebook as it would on any Android device, but it shouldn't have access to the UT system.

(b) Waydroid uses a customized version of LineageOS specifically for that container, so in theory, another OS could be modified to be used on the developer end, but on the user end, there isn't the option to choose the rom right now. I think it's a challenge to tweak Lineage to work properly already.
So I've seen the installation of the Ubuntu Touch OS and seems quite easy but what should I do if I needed to rollback to the stock android. Just flashing using the stock rom would rollback to it's original version? Or it needs any other workaround? And what's the need of flashing twrp and rooting the device as you've done in the previous video?
Returning to Android will depend on the device. Usually devices can flash a stock rom, but the methods vary a bit. I am planning on doing a video for Pixel 3a on this issue. The difference when coming from Ubuntu Touch is that you usually need to boot to fastboot/recovery mode manually (Using the hardware buttons). You might need to flash TWRP to flash other roms because ubuntu touch installs ubports recovery software. There's no need to root the device (e.g. magisk) unless you have specific apps or modules that require root (e.g. adblock, backups, gpay).

It doesn't seem that slow for normal apps, but Pixel 3a is a bit older, and serious gaming really isn't that realistic on waydroid yet. There are still a few usability bugr and performance issues, but functionality is quite impressive at this stage.
At the moment waydroid doesn't pass notifications to the UT system. You can use WhatsApp web (open-store.io/app/whatsapp.roeb), but you need the app to scan the QR code, so you still need another phone for doing that.
This doesn't work, when you run 'waydroid init' it downloads the wrong image for the HALIUM_9 sargo device, which would be the lineage-16 in the video, but it downloads a lineage-18 system image that won't work

You can try rebooting first if you haven't already. Otherwise, it may need a reinstall. You can try the waydroid helper app open-store.io/app/waydroidhelper.aaronhafer

Thanks for the comment. It might be worth trying to reinstall via waydroid helper app ruclips.net/video/e5yM7XEXryg/видео.html . If that doesn't work, then try going to settings, system, language, and adding/readding the AOSP keyboard.
It sounds like a failed installation, meaning that you would need to start again fresh. Something either in the waydroid package or the OS may not have downloaded properly. Try using Waydroid Helper app to install and see if you run into the same issue.
Wait a second. You downloaded the APK of WhatsApp, but Wi-fi was not turned on in Waydroid. (It's pretty obvious at 8:04, even) Did he download the Apk using the Wi-fi connection that came to Ubuntu Touch, so now this Waydroid? 😐
Good point! Waydroid works like an app, so it is able to make use of the wi-fi connection through the Ubuntu Touch system. I don't know how, but I didn't have to set it up inside Waydroid.
Hi is there anyway to expand the root directory because i want to install more apps on waydroid. The limit on /dev/root is only 3gb and most things are installed there..
I asked in a Telegram group, and they said the apps should be stored in ~/.local/share/waydroid/data on the UT device. So the limit would be the UT device storage rather than waydroid itself. Check the UT storage space, and then try a reinstall of waydroid on the latest channels. If you still have trouble you could ask here: t.me/waydroidonut/1571

I don't think so. Ubuntu server arm isn't supported for smartphones at the moment. There may be other ways of using the phone as a web server, but not a full-fledged server.

Generally, Gpay won't work unfortunately.. Waydroid uses a LineageOS variant, which on its own already doesn't support Gpay. It would require rooting and adding modules via magisk, which I have not been able to install on Waydroid yet. After that, there is no guarantee that the NFC would work either.
My Solution is using my own Matrix server with a Whatsapp-Bridge. Works natively and i don't have to use the stupid WhatsApp app. Waydroid is great tho, but native apps will ALWAYS be better.
I always wanted to try the WhatsApp bridge method. Do you have a good tutorial or links to help set it up? I agree that it is a better solutuion right now, but takes a bit more effort to set up.

Don't worry, while I was updating the device, it failed as always and stopped working, you reset it but nothing, I can only install the system again, I don't need it anymore 😅

Did you install via commandline or the waydroid helper app? If not the app then try that. It is still a bit buggy.

The problem is that the VPN does not work for me since only Ubuntu TOUCH accepts some specific ones and the others like rise up do not accept them.

Technically it should be possible, but I tested on the Pixel 3a, and it didn't get passed the loading screen. Installation and download work.

Right now this works on Pixel 3a running 16.04. Is that the same setup for you? Are there any error messages or places where it fails?

@@RadiiRadium There may actually not be enough space. Depending if there is a lot on the phone or not. I have only tried Waydroid on new installs.

I think it does but the back gesture will interfere with UT's side gestures
