The Truth About the CRF250F's Weight - It's NOT a Problem!

People love to criticize the CRF250F for being too heavy. But the thing is -they’re missing the bigger picture. That extra weight is the reason Honda's Beginner Trail bike, the CRF250F feels so planted & confidence-inspiring on the trails. The CRF250F is definitely not a featherweight, but does that actually matter when you’re out riding? Today, I’m breaking down why the CRF250F’s weight isn’t ...

A lot of people think that to be a faster dirt bike rider, you just need to twist the throttle, get over your fear, and send it. This is a very reductive & simplistic way to think about improving your speed on a dirt bike. Eventually, this mindset will get you hurt. Today, I’m going to share something that will completely change the way you think about dirt bike riding. This KEY piece of knowle...

Hell yeah man, got my first bike at 31. Your videos have helped a lot. Love to see western pa people succeed as well!
appreciate that man! glad my videos have helped
This bike isn’t meant for ripping. It’s meant for Trail riding, which is meant to be tame, climbing hills and go exploring. If you look at Honda New Zealand they market it as a trail/farm bike. Ride at your capability.
Yep exactly
I just found your channel and love your intraspective videos. Lots going on there in your discussions, and I love it! I've been riding since the age of 8 (61 now) including motocross into my 40s and some road racing in the late 80s. A few years ago, when we were in West Virginia, I took up supermoto riding on the super-twisty roads - it was awesome! (I have a few lame RUclips videos if you go look.) But back in Michigan, the roads are straight and mostly flat, so now I've taken to woods riding with harescrambles, enduro and I'll try some Michigan Sprint Enduros this summer. Like your first AMA MX race, I failed miserably in my first harescrambles last fall. I couldn't finish and had to pull into the pits before completing my 2nd lap (9 mile loops). Humiliations galore I said to myself inside my helmet. I've done a few more, but it's embarassing when I feel I'm a healthy, strong guy and cannot finish. Same as you, my goal is just to ride as best as I can, learn better form and technique and finish. Thanks for your uplifting and motivational videos. Looking forward to catching up and watching more - thanks! :-)
Thanks for sharing your experience! Best of luck with your goals this year and have fun out there!
@@krproton youve got a lot to look forward to :)
2:25 but it’s really not that gentle 🤣
Yo bro just got a 2025 CRF 250 f and I absolutely love it
So im 14 i have ben loking for a biger trail bike because i have a crf125 would this 250f work for a 6f kid
Yeah the crf250f is a good step up from the crf125f if you like that bike. Here’s a video I made about sizing the crf250f ruclips.net/video/YVN34KEnspQ/видео.htmlsi=QvJNlQBgLJQTOpsC And here’s one to help you learn more abt the differences in types of bikes to help you make your decision ruclips.net/video/I9o67DJ7M4o/видео.htmlsi=yyBOCrsx60rJS_tA
I've only had a water cooled bike overheat when I had a coolant leak and was getting stuck doing super slow speed enduro stuff in 80 degree heat. Air cooled bikes are cool for their simplicity but idk why the snow would bother a liquid cooled bike? Maybe blocking airflow to the radiator but I feel like you have ride in deeper snow than this for that to happen and the ambient temps would still probably bring overall engine temps down.
I recently started as well. Using a KLX300R. Not ideal as it is so heavy, but I’m learning.
That’s awesome!
I totally agree with your praise of the CRF250f. I have come into dirt riding late in life, having owned the Tornado 250 before, the CRF is lighter and has fuel injection, and is low enough for me. There are plenty of gnarly tracks in Nicaragua to test the CRF to its limits. It is the best bike I have ever had. I was able to set it up road legal too.
That’s so sick! Are you hitting trails in the forest in Nicaragua mostly or Mx tracks too?
I'm almost 55 and have considered racing again after over 20 years. It is SO fun.
Hell yeah!
I have a brand new WR 450 F in my living room and here I am 😂lmao I sure hope know how to let the clutch out slow 🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂 good vid bro
Haha I believe in u
Just found your channel your gear video is premium got me thinking 🤔
Glad you liked it!
Some of us call that a God shot.
Yeah definitely!
Great video & content! I believe you nailed the key points. I'll add a couple of my own as, like you, I have race bikes and a 'trail' bike. I prefer the trail bike for doing trail work as they have a lower seat height and just easier to ride while hauling gear, etc. Finally, if you have a buddy that has the same bike, it's an absolute hoot chasing each other around the woods. They are less tiring and you can push the bike closer to or at its limits. Good stuff!
i agree completely! thx for the comment
Riding in snow is no joke
can confirm haha
@@notsoupmoto I had my first snow ride a month or so ago. i figured it would be like mud. WRONG! I will skip the next snow ride :)
I really wish I started racing when I was young... My first race I was.... thinking.... 34. It was an 8 hour rally race. Turns out being older and more controlled is really good for rally I didn't get a single penalty and came in second. I don't rally race anymore because 2 strokes use so much gas I end up running out between stages. I love racing though... I don't care if I win every race. If I find myself winning every round I just go up a class. I love that feeling of just banging bars and being on the course with people your level. Edit* I've actually done a lot of 6 hour ironman harescramble races... It is my favorite racing. It is wild how after about 4 hours you just get into a zone and start putting in laps that you completely forget. By the end you are just fried for days. It is amazing. I know its not for everyone but It is my kind of racing. My only tips for you is don't listen when guys tell you to start slow. Riding slow is hard, it also sets the pace for the rest of the day. A lot of people will tell you to start slow... over and over you will here it. I just can't disagree more. Hit the first lap hard the second hard... have fun and shred. Your gunna crash either way. But riding slow the bike is going to be flopping around and your going to be balancing more... fast everything flows and your are just able to set the mental tone higher for when you hit the tired wall.
thanks for sharing man! yeah i'm super pumped for that endurance race... gonna be a blast I think haha
I’m also planning this year being my first full season in my local Hare scramble and sprint enduro series.
that's awesome! have fun w it!
Hey Soup! New follower here. Your videos have sold me on the CRF250F. Picking my 2024 up next week! Keep these deadly vidoes coming, my dude 🍻
Glad to hear my videos helped you make your decision!
I dnf'd my first two motos, won my third & lapped the feild in my fourth. Then aged out of the super mini class and couldn't afford a big bike. I raced some in rando classes on my rm 85 but that was my whole racing career. My family let me ride and race but even as a kid I had to buy my own bikes and gear. Basically i was pretty good but just straight up got priced out. Now I'm old and have to convince myself to send jumps I would've hit without hesitation on my mini. 😂
I’m 28, and 20 years down the line, I don’t want to be in your position.. I’m so glad I ride every chance I get… get that bike man
@BIKELIFEAP what? I have two bikes lol I just don't race anymore. Also I'm 34 not 48 not sure what the 20 years down the line thing is about
yeah unfortunately it's just getting more and more expensive. My yz250f got stolen so I'm gonna be doing most of these races this year on my 125. under powered but we're gonna let the two stroke sing haha
It seems you should try a dual sport klx 230 led light stock nd 6 gears so its gonna be even better at lower speed nd can cruise at good speed 😁 i like honda but they should put a 6 gears on their enduro bike
Klx 230 for the win😁😁 6 gears 2 valve kinda easy to work on. Klx 230r vs crf 250F might be interesting
I came across a car meeting where they were blocking the road some people in car turn around with kid in their car but here i was on my trail bike … should have choose a other day for their meeting 🤣
Awesome schedule coming up it looks like. I look forward to seeing how your races go.
Thanks! Yeah I’m excited for it. Has a good variety
Will you be racing the CRF250F on those races?
I’ll be racing most of them on my YZ125 but might do some harescrambles on the crf. Not sure yet
I used to race at Malvern Mx, Route 62 and Briar Cliff I don’t race anymore but wow was it something
I’ve heard malvern is a really fun track! Might have to hit up a race there if I end up doing a decent amount of moto this year
@ they sold malvern to a landfill company and there’s no track anymore, it was the best track in are area. Sad to see it go
@@BryarShillingMusic what the hell that sucks man I remember when Steel City was still running here in PA... such a shame when good tracks close
@notsoupmoto I know at least we still got route 62 though. Have you here heard of power line in Saint Clairsville it’s a gncc track my buddy raced it last spring
@ yeah actually that’s one of the races I’m planning on doing this year. The GNCC
Im gonna try my first race this years here its the Fmsq national cross country they have some good riders 🤟🇨🇦
@@simonfournier6480 that’s awesome man! Best of luck
Thank You Very Much For Sharing 👍
thanks for the comment!
I know this isn't related, but I got my quad back together. It has pretty good power now. It needs washed, then I'll retorque the head. I ran it yesterday and was told to retorque it after awhile.
glad to hear you got it back up and running!
@notsoupmoto Thanks, I would've done it today; but I had to help my dad tear the rear end out of his semi. As he blew it out the other day. Tomorrow, hopefully, I can wash it and torque the head.
DRZ rider here. What I love about this bike is that it's very easygoing and unintimidating out of the box, but you can mod it up to 50 bhp without spending all that much money. As far as four strokes go, you get a lot for a good price, especially if you buy used.
totally agree
once again might sound a bit biast but if you have a buddy with a crf150r i highly recommend you try it out as it has a bit more power than the 250f but it has the best and most reliable throttle response of something i have ever rode keep up the work and im looking forward to the future :)
thanks for the comment man!
