Thanks for the video. It's a very good reminder. I have owned 15 yz125 back in the 80's. And actually flawless bikes. Regular maintenance and crash repairs.
Bought the wrong bike for the riding you do. It is common. So many people buy motocross race bikes and think that is the right answer, then they go to there local trails and with there lack of skills realize the bike sucks for what they are capable of doing. That's why Yamaha made the yz125x. It was made for trails, not a supercross track.👍
I’ve had the 125 for over 10 years and I used to do primarily motocross track riding. The 125x would be very neat to try out as I’ve been doing a lot more woods riding recently. My buddy’s 250x was awesome as well
you should do a compression test (if you haven’t already) and see what’s up with that. Even not in powerband you will have throttle. You usually get 60-80 trail hours on a piston. If it’s low compression it’s gonna suuuuuuck bottom end.
The top end is freshly rebuilt on my bike and compression was fine. I was moreso highlighting the reasons the base model yz125 (i.e. not the yz125x) isn't ideal for woods riding since it was better designed and set up for moto. Better power in the upper-mid to top end range. In the future I plan on getting my suspension revalved for woods, and adding some additional mods like a flywheel weight to make the yz perform a little closer to how the 125x does so it's more tuned for woods riding. and I'll be making videos highlighting those changes and how they affect different aspects of riding it! thanks for the comment btw!
@ not gonna lie though, I think you’ve convinced me to get that crf250f. The fact that it’s so pit bike esque looks like a ton of fun, and the lady could probably feel comfortable on it too. Thank you for all your awesome content!
my gf loves it! feels very comfortable on it. And no problem I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the content! and questions you have about it or any other ideas for videos you'd like to see I'm all ears
yeah not for nothing dude, but a yz 125 is one of the most user friendly easiest bikes to ride. You can definitely have fun on it in the woods set up right and ride it right. For starters you need to add a flywheel weight and change your gearing.
Definitely agree with you there I was talking about the 125 stock in this video but that’s the awesome thing about the yz125! So many parts available to make it basically whatever bike you want
Some good points, would you recommend getting this as a beginner bike? I've looked at this one a lot and stunting wise seems like it would be really fun.
Yes it’s a great beginner bike but just depends on what type of riding you want to do! Check out my video on the positives: ruclips.net/video/sE8srnhl208/видео.html

Hola! Hello! I have a CRF250F and with it it is enough for me to have fun and relax walking around. But I would love to buy a YZ 125/250 just for the sake of riding once in a while. Unfortunately vehicles in general are expensive in my country (for example the CRF 250 F costs twice as much as there) and I have other priorities before spoiling my inner child. Greetings from URUGUAY!!!
This is really helpful i have a 4 stroke 250 trail bike and i was considering getting a 125 for the desert but im scared of that powerband like a weeny lol
Haha yes the powerband is definitely something you’ll have to get used to but the 125 is a fun bike for going fast! Just remember to keep it high in the RPMs always!!
For me my closest trail system is an hour away don’t have many buddy’s with woods to ride in. And have more Mx tracks near me. Being as I have a trail bike I gotta drive an hour every weekend just to ride. Anyone else have this problem too ?
I understand what you are talking about i rode a good friend of mine yz 125 and I had tons of fun on it in the wild open spaces but I don't think it would be a fun bike for me in the woods and that I been saving up for a DRZ 400s to ride with my friend and ride some back roads around my house
i would love to try out the drz400s in the woods. I wish I put some knobbies on my drz when I had it. the new 2025 drz400 rumors look really interesting too. it'll be neat to see if they do anything cool with that
Thanks for your input. i know they are a heavy bike and a high set, but for someone over 6'4" and a little bit thick I fill it a good fit for me and my riding skills
Have you ridden the yz125x on trails? Just curious what your opinion is of that version vs the moto version. There may not be much of a difference but I have no clue.
I would say more of an open moto track honestly The 125 has trouble on tighter tracks with big elevation changes Definitely not designed for single track at all. An exception for the 125x but I haven’t gotten the chance to ride one of those
Maybe a flat one but it really does have a hard time hitting jumps out of tight corners so if you have a lot of elevation changes plus a tight track you’re going to have to really change up your gearing. But even still, a 4 stroke Mx bike will do much better in those situations because of the constant power delivery out of the turns
Why do you think pros don’t all race 125s in supercross? The 250 four stroke is clearly a more capable bike on tight tracks with jumps right out of the corners
Do you have a Klx230 if you do can you do a video on it please it would be so helpful even do a video about the Klx 230 I would love to see what you say about them because I am interested to purchase one for my second dirt bike and progress my trail riding skills
Having a 2 stroke in the woods is great! You bought the wrong bike brother. By default it’s not good! Buy an enduro bro. Like a Beta that’s built for what you want to use it for.
I’ve had my 125 for a long time and I used to mainly ride motocross, which it was great for. I made this video more to explain why I’ve been choosing to ride other bikes recently over my 125, as well as help beginners understand what a yz125 is not ideal for.
@ I was close lol.. one of the best places I’ve ridden was in PA. “Lost Trails” near Scranton. If it’s in your area i definitely recommend giving it a shot.. a lot of good technical trails, rocky hill climbs, and beautiful scenery.. I found a trail that ran next to a crystal clear mountain stream for a good couple miles.. 🫡
It’s all the fact that it doesn’t fit your riding or riding type, none of these things you explained were issues with the bike, just how it’s not suited for you.
I’m not saying a 125 two stroke can’t be ridden on a tight motocross track I’m just saying it’s not the most ideal tool for the job when comparing it to other bikes out there. Ask anyone with half a brain cell who has ridden multiple types of mx bikes on multiple types of tracks and they would agree my guy 😂

I made this video more to explain why I’ve been choosing to ride other bikes recently over my 125, as well as help beginners understand what a yz125 is not ideal for.
