Great video for the beginner racers to watch. I race a series in Virginia that is a little different than what you describe. We average over 400 riders each race, so our race is divided into three races. We have a race for all the younger kids first. We call them Pee Wee and Horizons. Then, there is the "Morning Event" which is all of the "C" classes (usually over 200 riders). Then in the afternoon there is the "Main Event" which is all of the "B" and "A" riders. We also have an "AA" class which is the top 10 or so racers. Most of the races are 'dead engine' starts as you mentioned, however the type of start is up to the race promoter. There are a couple of venues in our series that have live engine starts. Also, most races you take off from your line where you sit on your row, but sometimes you roll forward after each row goes up to a common start line. There is even one where you roll forward and put your front wheel in a small dug out trough. And one where you roll up to the base of a big hill climb. I've even heard that a long time ago there were some Le Mans starts. Then, along with the revving, people will also hoot, holler, or if they see that you aren't in your class, they may yell that out. Anyway, welcome to Hare Scrambles. Soon your strategies will change over to different goals such as better finishes and better technique. Sometimes my goals are quite random, like 'make it farther in the race before the leader laps me (I'm in an older age class so I start on one of the last rows; the AA guys will all lap me somewhere). Regardless, it is a LOT of fun. Good luck!
I love your videos I was wandering if you could make so more videos on just exploring and talking about what you would add to the bike. Thanks you, you make great videos and they help out a lot so keep at it.
My first race was a televised Red Bull endurocross prolog downtown with 1000’s watching. I thought something was wrong with my bike because when I was dropping off obstacles my bike was revving to the moon without lifting the front wheel. It was actually the pressure of the event, I couldn’t relax my grip enough to modulate the clutch lol. You’ll never forget your first and who knows what you will learn 😂
I have binged pretty much all of your CRF250F videos and they have helped lead me to decide to buy a new 2025 CRF250F. I grew up with dirt bikes so I have about approximately 18-19 years of motorcycle experience since I got my first dirt bike. I did some local motocross racing a few years ago, but mostly just ride for fun now. The past couple years I did spend on street bikes, but never really had as much fun as I do on a dirt bike. I picked up the 250F because I wanted something that was reliable with low maintenance, but is still plenty capable if I want to weekend warrior it in a C class race or run a hare scramble with it. Thanks for all your 250F videos and I hope you keep making them 👍🏼
Awesome! so glad to hear the videos were inspirational for you. those are all the same reasons I love the bike as well. just makes dirt bike riding fun again haha thanks for the comment! I'll definitely keep making them. actually planning on studding the tires on it and doing some winter riding videos so stay tuned!
I'm a harescramble noob also. My thoughts. Try to race your first race on a cooler day. Its harder than many think to race over 2 hours. Try to yeild, but not stop on the right for passing riders. Eat or drink carbs, bonking is real even on a motorcycle. Nice video.
Definitely a great bike. Kind of sad i sold mine to pick up a nice used Beta 350RR. I hope you get your YZ250F back. Saw your post about it being stolen. That sucks.
here in Indiana (IXCR) each row is 10 seconds apart, and the pro guys race the 1:00 p.m.PM race while the rest of the amateurs race, the 10:30 a.m. AM race which consists of A class all the way to D and Trail class. This makes it so that really slow guys like myself. LOL. aren't hogging the trail for the pro guys so they get their own course after ours is over
Hey, Soup, great video as always! I’ve got an unrelated question: how do you think the KLX 230R would compare to your bike, since it’s basically just Kawi’s version? I figure I may as well not just look at one manufacturer just to compare. The only real differences I can see between them (besides 16cc’s in the Honda’s favor) is size, the KLX being about two inches higher (in fact, I think even the KLX’s “short” model is still an inch taller than the CRF) and and fifteen fewer pounds ready to ride. Both of which would be an advantage for me. I’m six foot on the dot, with a bit more growing to do, but I also have weak little twig legs because I don’t work out. Obviously I think there wouldn’t be too much difference, just wanting an opinion from someone who actually has experience riding and knows a bit about how those things matter.
@@Cringetoefur you pretty much nailed it. Although I’ve never ridden one, just looking at the specs it’s basically Kawi’s version of the CRF250F so if you feel the slightly taller size will be more ideal for you then go for it!
Everyone that races had a first one. Just remember to have fun. Not every race is a race for every rider. Sometimes it’s just survival, i.e. the Blackwater 100😂.
hey imma bring up something that i struggled with in the beginning and i havnt seen anyone else talk about it. some of us guys who are "longer" down there dont know where to put it. like i would tuck mine into the top of my knee brace but it would eventually come out. i tried all kinds of things but eventually settled on

That’s wild that was your first race! Props to you
Was it the Tennessee knockout?

True!
Great info. Pretty good finish in your first run. Hope you do more and put them up for us to watch.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed
Gonna be racing another one this coming Sunday actually so stay tuned
Great video buddy! Spot on about pacing!
Thanks! Appreciate that!

that beta's probably sick tho! and thanks I appreciate it... stay tuned hopefully we find it. I'll post updates if anything happens
So close to 2k man 🎉
We’re getting there!

That makes sense! Do they race quads on a different day then?
At the one I was at they ran youth bikes and quads before all the big bikes.

Haha yeah some of them can be gnarlyyyy
but that was just the goal! To have fun

I usually go for the ratchet strap method. a little bulky but way more secure than the knee brace
That’s crazy
Those are inefficient ways to store it. One wrap around the waist then come up over the shoulder so you can sip off it
If you can make your last lap your fastest and you will improve results
