Why It's a HUGE MISTAKE To Use THIS! (RANT VIDEO)
Lots of people use chicken wire on their run and think that it will protect their chickens from predators. This is not the case! Now, there are those that DO UNDERSTAND THE RISKS so are not really surprised when they have a loss, and that is their choice. I take the same risk free-ranging my chickens. But, this video is for those that DONT UNDERSTAND the risks and are surprised when they have a loss. My hope is to spare you that loss.

Why you are not posting any new videos? :(
Hi Im sorry. My health & life imploded and I had to sell all my animals because I couldnt take care of them properly. :(
These chickens are so beautiful!
Thank you! The young lady I sold them to won Best in Breed at one of the bantam shows locally a few years ago. I dont have chickens anymore so I miss them. .
Is SO CUTE!!! SILKIES ARE THE GODS OF CUTENESS I AM GOING TO DIE.
Hi. Im a mom to two baby silkies,( 2 months old) ive hand raised them since their mom tried to attack them, so yes i am attached lol. People cant understand why i have them, and thats ok. They help keep my anxiety down. Theyre never separated from each other, and always seems to want to be near me. My concern is if they are both girls or boy and girl, if onevis a boy, i wont be able to hear the crowing due to my hearing loss. Im hoping theyre both girls, do you think a vet will know how to tell ?
I’m getting a silky chicken rooster tomorrow, are they very loud that my neighbors will be super bothered by his crowing even though I was told by the breeder that the one I’m getting rarely crows.
They r not as loud as a big boy but some can crow a lot. It’s good that the previous owner has let u know he is more quiet. Congratulations on getting a little boy 😁🎉
Why was the rooster limping?
I neef a home for my cute xulmie boy😢

I’m a very new chicken owner, and I was doing research and this video probably saved my future chickens lives! My neighbor used chicken wire and her chickens where eaten as well , but I never realized that chicken wire was the problem, again thank you so much ❤
Doesn't get any cuter than this, especially as they fall asleep.
That crow is so cute❤❤
In Australia what you call hardware cloth, we call aviary mesh. Even with that one has to consider the predators in the area and how the mesh is attached to the frame. I had a dingo hybrid, and I had chickens. Dingoes are extremely cunning, they're like the T-rex in Jurassic Park: they test the fences until they find a weak spot. Well, my dingo could tear holes in chicken wire, but I wasn't worried, my coop was covered in aviary wire... he found the weak spot was the way the wire was stapled to the frame, ripped the wire off the frame and it didn't end well for one of the chickens. Any wire mesh that was less than 3mm thick wasn't going to keep him out. I ended up having to keep my chickens in a dog enclosure to stop my dingo from getting to them. I can't imagine how strong an enclosure would have to be to secure it from something like a grizzly bear keen to get some eggs. For those fortunate enough to live in places where they don't have to worry about predators, chicken wire would be fine to use (New Zealand 👀).
I have watched many videos but this clip is by far the best. You inspired me to raise silkies and started with four chicks. They are 5 weeks old and wish i could be living the way you are. Thank you for sharing luv. Keep it up.
Georgia is what type of breed ?
Have about a year and a half white silky just like yours. Same symptoms. Will try this feeding. How did your turn out and how did you prevent it? We've been having very hot weather. Wondered if she's dehydrated too...
I’m dieing i love silkies so much 😭🫶
I use chicken wire on all my chicken pens but I also put roof metal on ground from post to post before I put chicken wire up. Then I put 2 strains of electric at bottom about 14-16 inches apart with a charger that will knock your socks off. I’ve had chickens for 12 years now and have never lost one to a predator.
Great topic coverage❤
Good information
What a cute ball of fluff! I just got into silkies and picking up my puff daddy silkie rooster soon ❤ naming him Hank Williams
What a beautiful cross
Thank you so much for this helpful video. I’ve been raising chicks for the past 7 yrs: had no idea Wry neck was a thing and that it is treatable. We found 1 of our 13 wk old chicks face down in the dirt and when I picked her up her neck was completely loose/wobbly/unsupported. Her eyes were barely open and she was breathing but very shallow. Unfortunately it was a hot day in the 90’s. I brought her in the cool house and placed her in a box with shavings. I felt horrible that I did not know how to help her so I prayed & asked God to either take her home with him or teach me what I need to know to help her. The google search for info & help began, thankfully your video was the 1st one I watched. I used your exact recipe, egg yolk, chick crumble, & nutri drench. I massaged and supported her neck, she ate & drank water w/ vitamins & electrolytes. The next morning she was sitting w/ her head up. I gave her some more of your recipe and by the afternoon feeding she was full of energy trying to get out of the box. I moved her back outside to a temp kennel/coop adjacent to the rest of the flock. She is healed and She is thriving! We named her Gracie :)
How do you know that one of tbe chicks is a Rooster?
Sometimes it’s obvious and sometimes not. Bigger comb, bigger legs, tail curling, larger overall. But sometimes because he can be “girly looking” you can’t tell until he crows. 🐓🐓🐓
I have had silkies before just don't know where to get them
I hatched 20 chicks in my incubator, after one week girl developed ryeneck. I went two tractor supply bought selenium and vitamin e in a tube made for goats, I fed her to pea size drops 2 times a day. She made big improvements everyday I did this every day for a month and she's 100% back to normal, acting like a little chick again
Very helpful thank you!
❤
That hen, i think is actually trying to lock you out of the coop!!! Haha- what a riot! Lol- she said, " I have a plan, if i bury the door- she can't get in to steel my eggs!!! Lol!!!
Anyone from Kenya with this breed?
❤❤❤❤❤
She is pretty
I see all your videos , pls back to RUclips , I am from Alabama
You need to put some slats across the ramp so that they don't slip, gives them something to grip onto on the way down and up.
Beautiful
Thank you so very much for this video. I am nursing my sick Silkie rooster Wookiee. Sadly he has Wry neck and is in my second week of me treating him. He is not showing much signs of improvement, a little bit not much and he had started to loose interest in food. Thank goodness I found your video, because as soon as I played it for him,he was eating and drinking again! He makes happy purring sounds back to yours, and looks for a treat when they make their excited “Ohh look a treat!” sounds. I play it over and over for him. I’m sure hoping that he will recover. I love your channel, helpful advice and wonderful videos. I am a happy subscriber. Thanks again for all you do. 🙏🥰
My silkie has laid around 17 egss but isn't getting broody. Ig she's over-laying. Help me with this
Usually a chicken crowing is loud enough to shatter your eardrums, however that's not the case for a silky.
❤🇦🇺 if anyone can please let me know how to introduce a young rooster to 3 silkie hens all about 7 months old (I've had the hens since they were babies) i would love to know the gentle way to have him as part of my chook family. Ty in advance to any advice 😊
Hi! Lots of patience can make a huge difference. Keep them separate but where can see each other. It’s even better if they can sleep that way as well. Dog crates can be very helpful.
@@birchmoonfarm101 thanks so much 🐔
maybe this chicken is a pekin bantam mixed with silkie idk
So cute x❤
Do you notice if they eat egg yolk they may eat their own eggs later? I have a pullet that isn't exactly why neck although people are telling me it is in groups on Facebook but it's more of a bobble head that she loses control over and sometimes when she twitches or turns it will continue moving even after she stopped if that makes sense. She has no problem eating and drinking in her own and getting around and even flying up to roost but just has this bobble head.. also I noticed it around month 2-3 not at birth. Any advice? :)
😅😂🤣
So was that a no then?? 😅
I have a white silkie rooster, and my hens are a mixed flock, Rhode Island reds, golden laced wyandottes, Sussex, Austrolorps, and golden bantams. We haven’t hatched any yet since it’s winter but I can’t wait to hatch some! I’m really excited because I have no idea how the chicks will turn out. Really hoping we get a beautiful colorful bunch with unique patterns. Any idea how they could possibly come out?
Why do silkies get poopy but?
I purchased fertile eggs for a Broody Hen. The Eggs arrived and guess what "miss Broody wasnt interested in sitting on Eggs" I purchased an incubator and am candling Silky eggs on day 7. Im finding some with the little black spot, and some I see the shadowing but cant locate the black spot nor do I find the red ring. Do I just give the chick more time to develop? These shells are also harder to see into. Thank you for any advice.
