Numbers matching? How do you figure out if it is and where are the numbers located? Plus what they mean. That’s what we do on the JUDGE
Found a GTO that also happens to be a judge. Going to start the restoration process. Found it had some not so stellar body repairs and discovered it needs a full quarter panel.

      Matching numbers in any car can increase the value. The more rare or popular the car the more it helps. Being a GTO and numbers matching is a good selling point.

    Went thru all these VVG Videos and you provide some Exceptional Tips! I'm getting ready to get into a 73 Type LT Camaro. Full Floor, Firewall, Trunk Pan, Pan Drop Offs, Tail Panel and Full Rockers and Quarters! I have about $5,300 in New Sheet Metal Plus $1,200.00 in shipping! What size are the sheet metal screws ou used? Full Rocker install First beings I will be using the Existing Floor Supports or should I get the Floor out of the way First? Thanks for the Tips and Videos. I'll guess you have about $4,300.00 in sheet metal and shipping and about 120 Hours!

      The self tapping screws I use are #10 by 3/4”. Some cases longer or shorter. I like to start with correcting or replacing the rocker panels. I consider them to r frame and foundation for all the rest of the body and repairs. Once they are installed or good they will be a constant point of reference for measuring and keeping things level side to side

    Gotta be careful and look very closely at those numbers. I was looking for a block for my Lemans and saw several "YZ's" on Facebook Marketplace that were double stamped, i.e. someone had tried to stamp over the existing code with a YZ to try and pretend it was a desirable block. Examine them closely and if you have any doubt, move on.

    That glass is much to clean to be original! Also, he picked it up and moved it way too easy. Most of those cars saw sunlight and if it had an original shaded windshield which was designed for air conditioning only cars it would show yellowing in the shade and probably would had been an Libby Owen’s Ford glass LOF. Again an original windshield back in 69’ would had been a true 1/4 inch glass as later after markets were give or take closer to a 3/16 and when you picked up a true 1/4 inch you felt it in your back! But, nice video though I’ve installed many show cars with urethane using dam tape and setting blocks for hight installed by myself it’s all in experience. Nice video though!

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage 3 дня назад

      I will tell you different it still has the PPG logo in the bottom corner and date coded It hasn’t yellowed yet but it has some separation at the edges between the layers. This car spent most of its life stored inside a garage. Surprisingly the original dash pad doesn’t have a single crack, again probably from being kept out of the sun. It’s very clean because in previous videos it got cleaned and polished. I assure you that it is the original glass to this car. Not common I know actually i believe this is the first time I have messed with a bird with original windshield without visible damaged once installed.

    Not doubting your car John, but both block and head codes were used twice in 1969. Code YZ was also used on the 2 barrel 400 (265 HP) available in GTO's that year. The 48 heads were also used on 350 HO engines. If someone was inclined to, the block from a 265 HP GTO and 350 HO heads might seem like a real Ram Air III GTO. This is why people need to do their due diligence on their cars. John's car's block has the cars VIN proving it correct. A few years ago VVG Restoration Station did an excellent video on identifying a fake Judge. I highly recommend it.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage 4 дня назад

      The letter stamps definitely get used over and over. vin definitely insures a ram air block this time but you are correct. You could sub the 2 bbl block and no one would know because I am sure it’s the same block part number. Still gotta be very lucky to find one of those blocks too because I almost certain most people search for them and even sold them as ram air blocks.

    What sucks about transmissions, back in the day, a lot of transmission shops would just grab a transmission on the shelf and swap it in when you took it to the shop for a rebuild. Aamco did that to my '69 Firebird in 1969. The didn't tighten the trans lines to the cooler and it leaked and burned the transmission up the first week. Of course, they didn't warranty (lifetime warranty) their work, and since I was 16, I didn't have much leverage.

      @VinylVillageGarage I had a 1969 428,I believe XF block originally planned for the GT-37. But that changed L92 aluminum 6.2L from a Escalade will be the engine of choice now. Again congratulations on the new saving "Pontiac" sanctuary. Going to be a great thing!

    I hate vinyl tops because they don't look good, and they always cause rust!
