Test fitting and mock up why it’s so important and how to fix the issues.
I’m sure we’re not the only ones in the world that has attempted this
And how come we never heard about having to modify these
I completely know what you mean but like you I want them to function whether properly or not
Damn…I was thinking the same thing…every place I called or looked said I have the correct ones…I knew I wasn’t crazy!!’ Thank you!!!
I searched as well and even tried to find a different part number for Trans am and turned up nothing. I wish I had a real trans am to inspect to learn the difference. I figured that isn’t happening anytime soon so I modded mine. They still open with vacuum and close like the should but really is over kill. They don’t have to work I doubt you will be driving much in freezing temperatures. What I am saying is don’t stress to much if the door doesn’t block cold air quite like originally designed. I made mine look the part if you know what I mean.
Hi buddy. I’m doing this to my 69 TA clone also but the actuator I got (OER) are too tall and the ones that you have look slimmer. Where did you get those from
Well it’s because I cut them down and reworked the door and actuator length. I measured the space available in the hood it was about 2” the actuators are about 2 3/4” so I removed 3/4” and welded them back together. I had the same issue as you are experiencing
very nice technique Jon.
Great video, Thank you Thank you
Ok thanks I was trying to put them in and they where to tall
My VIN is also stamped on the frame, and on the firewall behind the Blower Motor. Another mistake cloners make...is they put a 5200 rpm hood tach on the car. Judges had higher HP engines, so my redlines at 5500.
What paint gun are you using, and what size tip.
Man I wish I would have watched this before I install my sons glass in his 69 firebird glass
Do you know if 1968 and 1969 rear schaker are the same I got some and they said for 1968 69 firebird but they are to tall
They look very similar in pictures but my dad’s 68 convertible the 1969 shakers don’t fit, too tall. They could be modified and when i get to my dad’s car I plan to do that unless i find actually 68 bird ones before I get to it.

Great video Jon! Nice info on convertible and coupe installation differences. I did not know that. Car is looking awesome!
I've got Ratbird up for sale for 1500$ Cash. No takers yet.
Very nice work John!! You're such a perfectionist!! Keep up the fantastic work!!👍🏽
do they sell repop OEM door stickers for firebirds?! if they do that would be a cool touch!
ive seen them on other models but idk...
I seen the boss helping! That was nice of her. Does the trim level out the glass also when its flush?
Another excellent video!! 👏🏻👏🏻
You will bend the bottom of the fender if you pull out on it, don’t try it.
Great video and extremely helpful! Thank you!!!
That looks great. We might even be able to accomplish that. Great video. Kelli says I better never video her without telling her 😂. Great to see your wife help out.
Thanks Jon, this is the video I've been waiting for. Some say the buytle rope is original, and some say the caulk urethane type is original. I'll do mine your way.
I’m glad it’s that easy, because mine is a manual up down version that is ugly!
Another great video. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. Really looking forward to the convertible top installation videos Also, I have a question for you; do you know if anyone has re-popped the often rusted out metal that the convertible rain gutter attaches to? I have considerable rust on both sides where the gutter makes the turn along the inner portion or the quarters Thanks Bruce
John i agree with you 100% on how to install a windshield. Buytl tape is the only way to do it. The consistent height insures proper chrome trim fitment. After test fitting i put masking tape on the glass where it lines up with the bottom stops which helps guide me on the final install. I hate reading comments where someone say " just call a glass company." Its not a difficult job and as you said it costs about $15. Keep up the good work.
I'm getting ready to replace the 350 Pontiac in my 69 Firebird with a mild 400 Pontiac. How much room did you need in front of the car to be able to move the engine hoist and get the engine past the front of the car? Would like to have all the variables worked out head of time so I don't end up with an engine just hanging there. Thanks
Great job, Jon. I was wondering, when you install a new dash top...do you drop the windshield in there before welding in the dash to be sure it's is in the right place to make a good seal against the glass? Seems like you'd also want to simulate the butyl rope somehow as well, if test-fitting. Otherwise, what's the strategy to make sure the sealing surface of the dash is in the correct location?
Great video! Not car related, but you're looking lean 💪
Another super helpful video! What diameter butyl rubber did you use, and do you have to use a primer to bond to the glass first?? Thank you.
That looks good! I've done it myself both ways, urethane and butyl. Pros and cons to both. I had a mobile glass place do my 68 Camaro convertible and it looks horrible around the edges where the urethane squeezed out. I just finished restoring a 68 hardtop where I did the back glass with butyl then I had a guy come over from Scranton Pa for the windshield who specializes in old cars. He used a foam dam around the edge to keep the urethane from squeezing out and it came out great.
Having excellent help is a true blessing! Y'all made it look easy!
How do you prevent the butyl from squeezing out and the glass sinking in the channel over time?
Great video like always!!
I've done something very similar to that, but I use the butyl primer on my glass on my glass and framework
Wow! I didn’t know there was another option other than the typical glue and caulking gun. I will definitely be doing it this way! Thanks for sharing as always!
Good content...and thanks for the installation tips....thanks...🔧🔧👍
No problem 👍
What a great video brother thanks for sharing your knowledge. I will need this one for the lovebird and boy are you lucky to have help I will bring my wife to the garage when the time comes to put in glass on her car 😊
Having a hand with this part is a good idea for sure.
Thank you for your videos! It's much appreciated. Did you repair that crusty dash????
Yes I did. Video next week or so. It came out good. It was the worst I have repaired too
Gooder help is hard to find nowadays...ha ha!
Yes it is 😎
Nice!!
Thanks!
Looks good!
I know it’s not seen until the hood is opened but WOW
Getting closer every day!
Heck yeah very close, hoping to beat the winter weather so it can go home to Tennessee and free up garage space for the next one.
Great episode. You filled in a lot of blanks I had on the complete Ram Air set up. Seems like you have to spend as much time sorting out necessary parts/hardware as you do turning wrenches and doing body work. It is really coming together.
You are right several hours behind the scenes to gather all the info and parts needed to get it done.
When I did mine years ago, I fished it through, shut the door and cut the cable in half with the door hing:) LOL
Well dang the luck.
Fantastic job John!! You do amazing work!!👍🏽
Thank you! 👍
Great tip my Judges mast is not on the car but I have it . Will find it and give it a try . probably will have a hard time hearing the AM radio but it not being on the car annoys me. Birdy
Heard that. I rarely use the radio it’s just the hole in the fender drives me crazy. Good luck 👍
👍
Much appreciated!
👍
It worked great for several cars and several miles on these cars
