Great tip my Judges mast is not on the car but I have it . Will find it and give it a try . probably will have a hard time hearing the AM radio but it not being on the car annoys me. Birdy
Hey Jon thanks for the good info on antenna installation, I am in the same situation with my 67 bird . I was originally going to plug the hole in the door jamb due to the fact that the antenna hole was never drilled when the car was painted, but have since changed my mind. I bought a template for the hole location, but am apprehensive about drilling through a beautiful paint job. Can you elaborate on any tips or tricks you have for my situation, and what type bit or cutter will get the job done without damaging the paint? , and what do you use to cut the notch? Thanks for any help you can give me, I love your videos and advice, both are very helpful.
Definitely a step drill bit, Put a layer of masking tape over the entire area it will help keep the paint from flaking around the edge, and the notch dremmel with a small cut off wheel or a file to make the notch. Then need to seal up the exposed metal with some paint. There is still always a chance for damage don’t push the drill to hard it’s a drill not a punch press is what my shop teacher told me years ago. Let the but remove the material with light pressure to keep heat down
Thanks for the how-to Jon. I was wondering if the antenna could be installed once the fender was on. I just found a 3/4" rubber plug and covered the antenna hole since I removed the radio for now. In your bag of tricks, is there a way to get the fender ornaments (air extractor location) installed once the fender is on? I don't like the ornaments but haven't found anything to replace them with. Any ideas on that? Thank you!
The trans am style have to be installed before fender is bolted on. The Firebird style are supposed to be as well but I have been know to use RTV to basically glue them on and masking tape to hold them in place while it dries.
Now that there's a quick and easy fix for an install most of us don't even know is hard until we try. THX!
Showing it can be done definitely builds some confidence.
Getting closer every day!
Heck yeah very close, hoping to beat the winter weather so it can go home to Tennessee and free up garage space for the next one.
Fantastic job John!! You do amazing work!!👍🏽
Thank you! 👍

Work smarter not harder, learned that a long time ago.
nice little nugget. Thanks for sharing.
You bet
I’m glad it’s that easy, because mine is a manual up down version that is ugly!
Heck you can swap it out easy peasy
What a great tip, who would have thought of that?
Necessity is mother of invention, I had to figure it one on an older build and now it’s easier to do this way the. Before installing the fender
A true craftsman, makes it look easy. Thanks for sharing Jon.
I seem to get lucky a lot of the time
When I did mine years ago, I fished it through, shut the door and cut the cable in half with the door hing:) LOL
Well dang the luck.
Nice, we will definitely be using that trick on our ‘67 when it comes time. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!

You can also install a internal antenna it’s much easier and there very inexpensive and yes plug the antenna hole looks way better
Yup, technology is much better now
Man that was to easy, I didn't hear any bad words or stomping feet 😂😂
That’s the beauty of editing software 😎

You're welcome!
Do you need some help this weekend? 😁 A mandatory evacuation has been issued for my county 😔 due to the pending hurricane.
Oh man I hope all things go well and no damages to your property. Heck we

I TOTALLY would've dropped the base back down in the hole after removing the mast...
Not saying it hasn’t happened to me too 😎

You will bend the bottom of the fender if you pull out on it, don’t try it.
Very true, not a good idea
