As you have learned to get the best or gooder fitment of replacement panels you have to get creative and make them go where you want. But that extra effort pays off in the end
Appreciate it, many attempts and learning the technique. This is why it’s a great idea to do some test welds and tweaking the adjustment of your welder before welding on the final body parts. Typically you can pick up quick especially since it’s a test panel so the stress of messing up isn’t the same.
I like the way you work Jon, sometimes a big hammer is the right tool. I just finished welding in a floor patch (about 2ft square). I've been mig welding for years, but I've never stitch welded sheet metal. Welding 8 feet at about 3/8" at a time, is too much like work. "Your Honor" the goat is looking good!
Sheet metal is its own monster for sure. In learned how to weld sheetmetal before I ever welded thicker stuff like 1/4-3/8” and so on. The heavier stuff is way more forgiving to a continuous bead.
Excellent technique. It's lined up better than factory 👍 FYI safety moment: The ends of '69 Judge trunk spoilers where they meet the quarters will do some not so nice things to fingers if they're in the way when the trunk is closed.

Another great job. Agreed the numbers on the panels are individual part numbers. The stamping house may have hundreds of parts they make and these part numbers are also used in the assembly of the car.
I had the exact same problems with the quater on a 68 chevelle and did the exact same thing and all was well until I put the quarter eztentions and light and tail panel cover on and i was 1/4inch short
It is not out of the question. The lower inner edge and lower lip is rusted out too. I repaired one like this for my lemans 20 years ago. Repop and food original ones didn’t exist.
They both measure at 17”. I can’t say what they came from. I can will say is the guy I bought the car from was a huge gto fan and part collector so good chance that they belong to a gto
I used a little spray adhesive to reattach the original material. Now if it was missing or turned hard and brittle it should be entirely replaced it’s about 1/2” gap that needs filled with an expanding foam that stays soft and pliable when dry. If it gets hard might cause ripples or bumps in the sheet metal
I agree a part number for sure but does it have meaning like year, model and so on. I am almost certain the numbers don’t match from one 1969 Firebird to another 1969 Firebird they change the letters and numbers for some reason. Again not that vital to solve just an observation
As far as the original cars, yes all individual parts should all match, unless there was an engineering change. Such as all left hand fenders should carry the same part number. Rh will have a different part number. Some OEMs would use odd numbers on LH and even on Rh. Not all OEMs followed that, but Ford for example did.
just curious, will you put some sort of seam sealer or something between the quarter and the inner support bracket by the outer wheel tub? or will it just float?

Good question, i use solid wire with shielding gas. Now it can be done with flux core my friend Luis has great success with it. I can’t weld sheet metal with flux core nearly as well

Repop trunk lids suck. I would get me some household vinegar, shop towels and saran wrap and remove all that rust on the trunk lid.

What about that padded brace above the wheelhouse? Are you able to access, and glue that from within the trunk?
Plenty of room from inside the trunk to get the foam in place
Do you have to reapply adhesive (liquid nails for autobody) to that horizontal plate that is mid-way up the panel?

Those numbers are part numbers for the individual parts.

The part number are based on Pontiac engineering drawing numbers not date stamped.
