Carey Price is #2 in my opinion. He was the best goalie in the league for a long time and won a Hart. Kopitar is a close #3. Also RIP Luc Bourdon. He had so much potential and could have been an absolute stud defenseman for the Canucks.

Bobby Orr is easily the greatest defenseman of all time. He's in a class by himself. Following him are Ray Bourque, Doug Harvey, Nicklas Lidstrom, and Eddie Shore in some order. I think there's every discussion to be had about putting those four guys in any order. They're all close. After them, I see Slava Fetisov (though you have to look outside of the NHL to his career behind the Iron Curtain to see why), Red Kelly and Denis Potvin. Then I'd probably round out the top 10 with Big Bird and Chris Chelios in some order. I have no problem saying that Robinson is one of the best defensemen in history. He's top 10 in my book in about 150 years of organized hockey history. But as great as he was, I see absolutely no argument for him at #1. Like I said, I see no case for anyone not named Bobby Orr.
