The Senators originally had the 18th overall pick, but traded it to Nashville along with a 3rd round pick 2009 to move up to the 15th pick to draft Karlsson. In retrospect this was one of the greatest trades Ottawa ever made. Nashville used the 18th pick to draft Chet Pickard who never played an an NHL game. However Nashville made up for it by drafting Roman Josi 38th overall. You could argue that Josi is a better defenseman than Karlsson.

Tough questions, if you're doing a re-draft, does Karlsson still gets ruined by Matt Cooke ?
Because IMO, Karlsson WITH the injuries that happened to him would go #4 (behind Stamkos, doughty and pietrangelo), but if redrafting him meant maybe he avoids those injuries, I could go as far as taking him #1.
I'm not a huge Karlsson fan cause I hated the senators, but before Karlsson was injured he was something else.

I particularly love how you so glibly glossed over that Kyle Beach's career was derailed because an assistant coach sexually assaulted him when he was 20 years old, dubbing it merely a "deeply troubling incident". If you're going to speak on such things, at least have the testicular fortitude not to downplay what happened to the victims of such crimes. Otherwise, maybe next time, stay on the bench.

    • @beyond_thebench

Not trying to downplay anything. That situation isn’t the main topic of the video so we didnt want to get too deep into talking about it. Could be a whole video itself.

This trophy used to be earned not given away as a popularity contest because of the lack of complete defensmens who didnt put up 3 points in 7-5 defeats but made their team better in 3-1 wins.
