      A D doing all this as compared to in the past? One could argue it’s a modern coaching philosophy that condones this “type” of play. Traditional coaching teaches “stay on the blue”..

      @FCMC123 4 дня назад +1

      @@HecticHockey funny & totally missing the point. Again, the cultural mindset of either D or F is problematic. Hockey is no longer (and hasn’t been) either/or. Its just the conservative coaches thinking that the position shouldn’t be played the way he is playing it
      Makar plays it
      Coffey played it
      Letang plays it
      Hughes plays it
      Karrelson plays it
      Oh, and that guy way back, really unique, wait, who what was it, oh, yea, Orr..
      Need to watch old school international Russian hawkee.
      Is the kid great? Ok? But I’m chirping this notion that it’s something unique.
      Its not. It’s the culture mindset of “the best” restricting to heavily defined roles. One could argue it’s just a forward just starting in the back because coaches now realize old Russian hawkee activates the D into the play and this changes the scoring opportunities
      (NHL scoring is up because some teams now recognize active D) but maybe I’m wrong?
      Maybe the “birth year” is weak?
      Or is it? 🤔🙃
      Maybe we should ask bedard? But wait
      He’s a forward…
      Forward can’t play D, right?
      Or can they.?
      🤔🙃✌🏻

      @Nichaelas 4 дня назад

      @@FCMC123 Honestly different roles require different play styles and while all are possible, realistically for defensemen and centers you want a higher percentage of your guys to specialize in defense. The defensemen that primarily go into offense and have below average or just average defense can really only fill like one or two spots on a well constructed roster. The other defensemen that are active in the o-zone typically need to be more two way. Centers can also get away with being more offensive but I think in general they're more and more expected to act as 3rd dmen at times. Makes sense we see a higher percentage of these types of players in these positions because for most players that's the role they need to fill to have a roster spot.
