    Dale Hawerchuk highly recommended Scheifele which was pivotal to him being drafted by Winnipeg.

      Ducky took Mark under his wing for sure. Ducky was right about him. Mark is passionate about the game and constantly learning. He would talk hockey all day long if you let him! 😅

    I'm a Habs fan and Scheifele remains my favourite Jets' player since the day they drafted him. Whenever he scores, I always say, 'That's my Jet, Markie!'.

    also remember the jets took a big reach on scheifele, he was projected 15th-25th

      i recall he carried a low skilled minor team on his back the year he was drafted, but experts were calling it fluky.

      And at the 2024 draft, Anaheim surprised many by taking Beckett Sennecke 3rd overall when most scouts had him projected around 12. However considering that Sennecke is tearing up the OHL, it looks like Anaheim made a good call.

      Hawerchuk had a influence on the decision of bringing him to Winnipeg as he was his coach at the time and the jets were having their inaugural season

      I know for a while, people were comparing Scheifele to Couturier (who was drafted 8th) as a "See? The Jets could have drafted *him* instead!"

    How this guy got cut from Team Canada is one of God's biggest mysteries... At this moment, he is ranked 2nd in goals in the NHL..

      No one questioned his ability. He was cut because of his attitude and personality. I would have selected him anyway- unlike in Winnipeg, it’s not like he could disrupt or try to control a team Canada dressing room.

      It's no mystery, it's because the coach is from Tampa so he took his own guys who aren't as talented. Hagel and Cirelli do not deserve to be on that team.

      @@Sonofahctib- Don Sweeney is the GM - it was his call. Cooper and the other 5 coaches were among 13 others - mainly GMs - who advised Sweeney on his selections.

    I remember the big question was how far Sean Couturier fell, and when the JETS picked Scheifele, there was a lot of talk about such a low rated pick by Central scouting was taken over Couturier. GO JETS GO!

      i was guilty, once i seen Couturier available at 7th pick i was pumped, than the Jets picked Scheifele. i was wrong.

    Worked for his favourite Italian restaurant for around a year delivering food, probably been to his place like 20 times. Cool guy.

      Goalies develop differently than skaters. Unless they're generational, it's really hard to pick them out. Hellebuyck was a mid-level goalie until he started doing eye exercises during the off-season.

    How is the fact winnipeg was so criticized by the nhl scouts for the pick of schiefele so early not mentioned.
    Chevy is so good at drafting. His only real 1st round bust has beem logan stanley

      Kristen vesalainen, heinola won’t turn out Barlow isn’t looking great, Lucius isn’t going to turn out, lambert is looking more iffy than before but yes Chevy did a great job drafting for a couple years recently he has not been great

      @@xrd577 only 67% of first rounders become regulars (100 games minimum); 27% of second rounders; 17% of third rounders; less than 10% of later rounds. Its all a crap shoot after the top 20 are chosen.

      @@xrd577 Of course, when the Jets were missing the play offs and getting earlier draft picks they did much better than when they were picking 20th or later. Chevy hasn't got worse at it, it's just that the Jets have become consistently a better team.

    Grew up playing with him and I remember the first year I made AAA. My dad said that was the one guy on our team who would make it to the nhl

    I think the top three teams are happy with what they got, but NJ, NYI and Ottawa probably wish the picked scheiffle.

      Mika Zibjad was a top 30 center but now he’s washed he used to have a slap shot like stamkos prob the best in league in my opinion

    Most people forget that Mark Scheifele didn't jump right into the NHL, he was playing in the minors for a couple of seasons until the team thought he was ready.

    Saw him play Jr in Barrie.
    He may have been considered a somewhat Lazy Skater.
    Definitely has the talent.

    He’s good but not elite in my opinion. Liability defensively. Highly skilled but just not as sharp mentally.
    He could have easily made it over a couple other guys though.

    when you're winnipeg you have to draft people who are willing to play in winnipeg (that's why laine and rutger mcgroarty got traded)

    Landeskog shouldn't have won the Calder trophy. He and Nugent-Hopkins were tied with 52 points, but Landeskog played 20 more games. What a joke.
