Yet Steve Smith retired as Captain of the team He helped score and win that game! Including the goalie he scored against there the great Grant Fuhr retired with the Flames too the same year.. 2000
@@jeffreyhalat1535 As a loooooooong time Flames fan, Smiths own-goal happened the year before I became a fan of the team, but I was aware of it as any good Flames fan would be. And I always found it tickling that yes, he and Fuhr both ended up playing for the team at the ends of their careers. Fuhr was just one season IIRC. Kinda honored to have players with such storied careers on the team.
@@alyssinwilliams4570same here.. huge Steve Smith and Grant Fuhr Fan, I have an autographed Grant Fuhr Flames puck and Steve Smith Puck…. Let’s not forget Martin Gelinas too!!!!!
some of these I did know (kinda been a hockey lover and nerd most of my life), but I didnt know #2, 3, 5 or 7. #4 (Flames win 13-1) was a game I was listening to on the radio that day (live in YYC and have been a Flames fan since the mid-80s), and I was kinda going nuts. Its also a game I've never forgotten despite my terrible memory. How do you ever forget your team smashing another by that score??
I probably could've googled this, hut what did the 4 1st round picks turn into? The Bos-Col trade has to be the weirdest, just because of the strange reason for that deal.
I believe there were further trades afterwards involving some of those picks as well. But Mike Ricci, Peter Forsberg, Ryan Sittler were all drafted in the first round by Philly in the following years... not bad.
Two things to add about #4, also - 13-1 is an atrociously high score but its still short of being the most goals or largest win margin - Montreal beat Quebec in 1920 by a 16-3, Detroit topped the Rangers 15-0 in 1944, two teams won 13-0 (Leafs vs Wings in '71 and Oilers vs Canucks in '85). As for most total goals, Toronto (St Patricks!) vs Montreal in 1920 ended 14-7, and an Oilers-Blackhawks game in '85 (again with the 1920 and 1985) finished 12-9(!) as I said in an earlier post, hockey nerd :) Also, I suppose thats maybe 5 things.
@@beyond_thebench yeah, weird that all eight come from the same article and the narrator reads that same article's explanation of each with 95% accuracy... This is theft.
How is unusual for Brule to get his name on the cup? Yes he wasn't there automatically because he didn't play in finals game I don't think any team wouldn't put the name of a guy who suited up during the run and all the black aces anyway they are right there with the guys pushing them behind scenes of course they get on.
Only one game in the playoffs wouldn't qualify him normally. Its also kind of crazy that he only played a couple of more NHL Games after that his entire career
I like this type of content
Thank you! So do we :)
1:52 good job scoring on your own goalie lol

@@jeffreyhalat1535 Can never forget Gelinas. 2004 was a fantastic year for him (and the team), aside from being robbed of the Cup ;_;
