Adventures on the Havaseas our Nordhavn 55 with Distin our Havanese.
We are Eric, Kimberley, and Distin (our Havanese). We spent the last 30 years going to a 8-5 job and focusing on our two children. Both children are now out of college. We have just retired. We decided to go on an adventure. We sold our house, runabout boat, car and all belongings not on the boat. We bought a Nordhavn 55 and named her the Havaseas after Distin.
We are starting our adventure in Southeast Alaska which is our home. We are learning more about her each day. We have no set plans and they will develop along the way. These videos will cover the places we go, discuss the places we anchor, and share a little bit about living on a boat. We hope these videos will assist others planning their routes in the future.

Final Leg on the Inside Passage in Winter / MV Havaseas Nordhavn 55
We planned to winter in Wrangell, Alaska. Plans changed! It is cold and Eric wants to go south for the winter. The Inside Passage is a challenge in winter, but we are going to try it! We crossed Queen Charlotte Sound! Now we just have to get through southern BC. This might be our final trip on N5520. These are our adventures in Alaska on our Nordhavn. How we live and where we go.... and sharing information on our anchorages.

I was there last month and loved it. Lots of fishing
Awesome!!!
Hello 😊 If one were to boat non-stop from Wrangell to port protection how long would it take ? It looks about 100 miles ? Are the waters calmer in that area ?
I don’t have those charts loaded right now because we are on the east coast. Eric says less than 100 miles. The waters are pretty protected.
Thank you 😊 Best wishes to you guys… maybe I’ll run into y’all somewhere around POW… I plan on making that area my new stomping grounds
That was awesome
Thanks!
i wnt ahead and just found your channel today. Such beautiful scenery.
So glad you found us!!!
I enjoyed your video. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Thank you for watching!
if you go back pls walk up that wheelchair ramp and take a picture people have been speculating that there is a wench up there for almost a decade on places like reddit
We will!
I call this paradise
Us too!
My name is Eugene Natkong I still live in Hydaburg and trying to remember you and you may know me? Just wondering and the nice video and beautiful boat you have.
Sorry for the late reply! Eric recalls the last name Natkong from when we lived in Hydaburg during 1976-77. I want to say the person I’m thinking of was in the military/army, perhaps during the Vietnam war, and was quite a bit older than me.
How I miss watching your videos.
Thank you! We may have found a new niche.
@@havaseas How are you both and the dog with the new niche? Where can I find you all?
Are you guys still on the water or did you sell the boat?
We did sell the N55 but we bought a N50 on the east coast. We have been working thru the new boat blues. Lots of videos from where we have been cruising. Trying to figure out a new niche.
@@havaseas so glad to see you guys back and I will look forward to seeing your videos soon
Can’t wait to see your new boat and more of your posts
We are starting to think about a new niche…. We might be back.
I wondered what the little grocery store looked like, thanks
You’re welcome 😊 I always wonder what will be available in the small towns.
Saw Eric in west Marine in WPB. Can’t wait to see the new boat. East coast cruising!
I hope you said hi to him!
Thank you. That means a lot!
Why did you guys downsize?
We didn’t need that big of boat and we wanted to downsize costs too.
@@havaseas I’m curious, but wouldn’t going through the hoops/costs of selling and buying a new boat (to reduce the length by 5 feet) outweigh any potential savings?
Good question. It certainly is best to get it right the first time! Unfortunately we did not. Although the 50 is only 5’ less. The overall size and weight of the boat is like 30% less. It was also close to half the price. Our new boat is only 3 years older. We were actually planning to get a 43 when we started the process but this boat seemed to be a good fit.
Are you still out there. No videos for awhile
We are still out here! Lots going on. I am trying to figure out if we are going to continue with the videos. I do need to get our boat tour of the 55 completed at least. If you are on Instagram or FB we do post there.
@havaseas for what it's worth my wife and I really liked your videos.
I love living there!
We were tempted! Seems like a nice community!
Well done
Thanks!
Lucky you. Would like to visit.
It was a pretty cool place. I haven’t watched the show but Eric has.
How does the village get electricity being so remote?
That is a very good question! The communities were and still may be served by Alaska Power and Telephone diesel generators. The Haida Corporation has submitted a proposal to the Alaska Energy Authority to construct and operate a hydro electrical project on Reynolds Creek. I am not sure if that project was ever approved and completed. I know in Juneau we run off hydro electric from Snettisham and if the lines go out our back up is generator power.
Guess they are done..sad
Sorry…. Not sure if we are done or not. Trying to decide if we would add value or not…
I like the N57
I really like the N57 too!!! The N50 is close!
Спасибо! Было интересно! Удачи!👋
Thank you!
Aren't Nordhavn fiberglass. If so. That impressive to see this yacht break through surface ice.
Yes, they are fiberglass. Very thick fiberglass. Eric is always careful because he doesn’t want to scratch the gel coat.
New Eddiestone rock… Epic and such beautiful weather too !
We were very lucky for the beautiful days. Plus the beautiful scenery!
Be strong enough to be honest and kind
We try!
Absolutely love all of your videos and content. Me and my girlfriend I love watching you on Sunday. I hope all is well and we can’t wait to see some new contact hopefully.
Thank you so much! We are trying to figure out things on our new adventure.
Hope you’re having more fun in Florida.
We have fun…. Sometimes the videos get the more stressful aspects of our lives. I actually really enjoyed the trip south. Well, maybe not the day with the 45 knot winds, logs coming at us, and the branch in the fin…. but, I sure enjoyed the end of the day cocktail!
Thats when a steel hull and stabalizers would make me feel a little better lol. But its all a part of the Adventure
It is part of the adventure…. We sure don’t get bored….
When was this video taken?
We did the winter inside passage trip November/December of 2022.
I enjoyed your trip, felt like I was with you! Thank you.
Thank you so much !
Love those icebreaker class Nordhavn’s ! Tough ships !
They are tough…. I feel safe in our boat.
Were you able to document the transition to the new N50? Can’t wait for the next series 😊
We have been trying to document the transition. I hope I can start getting that footage out soon. Thank you so much for following!
Congratulations on the N-50! I’m very happy for you guys. Will you be doing more cruising in the pnw or another location?
Thank you! We are going to give the east coast a try for a while. Totally different!
Are you going to get another boat. Keep us posted
We lastest about 3 months before purchasing another boat.... we purchased a Nordhavn 50. We are going to try to continue videos with the new boat.
Thanks for sharing your journey(s) to date. Look forward to your next adventure!
Thank you so much! We love that you are watching!
Is the ice dangerous to the prop? I can imagine the thick hull having issues with thin skin ice like that?
Eric doesn’t like to take a chance with the gel coat getting scratched. He is a bit of a perfectionist.
@havaseas I understand. Selling the boat I don't blame him. I can't wait to see the tours of your 50
Fun
😁
When the current pulls the bow in heavy current does the autopilot correct it?
Yes. We have a course set and the autopilot will bring us back on course. But, if the current is faster than our boat then we are in trouble. Does that make sense?
Congratulations on selling this and getting a N50!! We thoroughly enjoyed watching your journeys through PNW!!😊
Thank you! Hopefully you will enjoy the new boat and adventures too!
SORRY TO HEAR THAT YOU ARE SELLING THE BOAT!!!...ARE YOU PLANNING TO PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE????...😢😮
Spoiler…. We have purchased a N50. We love it! We plan to continue posting the new experiences.
A fabulous voyage to watch and enjoy the highlights of. Thank you for the editing and sharing - was so interesting to see a bit of your boat life and always a treat to see such beautiful scenery. Wishing you the best for Xmas and your next maritime adventures.❤
Thank you so much for watching! Merry Christmas!
Awe, and I was looking for a 55…hope you get new owners soon…best of luck on the new adventures, it was fun watching your videos.
We will continue our adventures…. with a N50! But first we plan to do a tour of N5520. You might like to see that!
Thankyou from Straylia ( Australian ) it’s nice to see you having a great experience it’s 11 December 2023 and yesterday was like 110 degrees here in our version it was 45 thanx again xxx
I hope you enjoyed the cold being brought to you! Thank you for watching! I hope to see Australia some day!
Beautiful video as always but December 12th 2022? I'm in Montana and it's the 10th here.
one year ago
I was going to try and mess with you about the dateline in Washington…. but, it was last year. We were so busy that I am trying really hard to catch up on videos. You might like watching “Where are we now, and what are we doing.” I had to put that out because our Instagram is current. Thank you for watching!
Was that N-35 "Astraea” passing you in the opposite direction at 20:03?
We were never able to figure out the name but we often saw the N35 around Anacortes. The N35 would be an interesting boat do a solo cruiser!
Think my worst experience with ice was watching some twits out on a little plastic cruiser trying to leave the mooring with one chap on the front with a pole trying to brake the ice, the guy at the helm decided to ram the ice in front and as a result the chap on the front was catapulted of the bow (Inevitable). I was watching as I just new it was going to end in disaster, took me a wile to find a long enough rope to attach to a life ring, the guy at the helm could not lift the other guy aboard as the sides to high, no ladder etc and the guy in the water after some initial screaming for help was declining fast, anyway after a few attempts at skipping a life ring to him I got the ring to him, then had to drag him through the ice to my boat, the ice was cutting him up a bit during that time, when I got him to my boat it took all my strength to get him aboard as he could not move by that stage, then had to undress him and wrap in towels. He was so lucky to be alive I think he had minutes to live if in any longer. A very sobering instance.
Wow! That had to be an experience! Thank goodness you were paying attention and thinking ahead! We had a discussion at dinner before we left Wrangell with some other Alaskan Nordhavn owners…. I made an observation that if either Eric or I fell in the water while moving we wouldn’t survive. There wouldn’t be enough time to get the boat turned around before the cold water took the person. The answer was…. don’t go anywhere on the boat where you could fall in. I never left the Portuguese bridge if I went outside while we were running. There was no going up on the bow or boat deck. I don’t even remember going out in the cockpit. I am so glad you were able to save the person!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the narration ,wonderful scenery , and watching these videos by an intrepid adventurous couple ,, it been marvellous watching the journey with you folks ,, thank you kindly for sharing your adventure ,, loads of ❤ from New Zealand
Thank you so much for watching! I would love to get to New Zealand some day!
The great adventurous couple of the havaseas are an intrinsic part of sea life, they provide a year round escape from weekday work demands and like a breath of fresh sea air , revive one’s spirit ❤
Thank you so much! It is great to hear that you get a little escape!
YOU GUYS MAKE A GREAT PARTNER 👍 👌..STAY SAFE AND KEEP WARM 🙏
Thank you! That is so sweet! We are getting better at this boating as we get more experience.
