MV Havaseas

Добавлен 8 июн 2020
Adventures on the Havaseas our Nordhavn 55 and 50 with Distin our Havanese.
We are Eric, Kimberley, and Distin (our Havanese). We spent the last 30 years going to a 8-5 job and focusing on our two children. Both children are now out of college. We have just retired. We decided to go on an adventure. We sold our house, runabout boat, car and all belongings not on the boat. We bought a Nordhavn 55 and named her the Havaseas after Distin.
We are starting our adventure in Southeast Alaska which is our home. We are learning more about her each day. We have no set plans and they will develop along the way. These videos will cover the places we go, discuss the places we anchor, and share a little bit about living on a boat. We hope these videos will assist others planning their routes in the future.
We have now sold our N55 and purchased a N50 on the east coast. We are now working on boat projects as we learn to cruise the east coast.

Is that Bob Benavides at the beginning of the video?
Boats are not for the weak at heart or wallet
That is such a true statement!!!
Love watching this, wow! Looks like a neat trip :) I think we would be , or maybe I would be a little stressed going through hahaha Cheers our friends oxoxo Jen
We would love to see you!!!
Hey Our Noodle friends oxox Miss you ! Love that trip you did, I said to Derek that we should do that oneday! Maybe Oneday we will get back East :) It looked so neat to go through all the bridges. Poor Eric looked a little stressed at one point... I felt his stress watching! Cheers our friends oxox
You are welcome on our boat anytime if you want to check it out for a week or so….
The barge you passed was a dredge. The dangerous cargo was likely fuel for the dredge. When they are set up and dredging there pipes can extend for a mile. Another thing to dodge thru.
Yes…. We think we hit one of those with a stabilizer fin…
🍻
🍻
My old Captain gave me some good advice for the ICW ONLY: Keep the greens between you and the ocean.
That is good advice! That would work. Those triangle and square sure come in handy when the ICW meets up with the channels…. We did circles for quite a while figuring out one turn.
Enjoyed your video..always excited to see your new content.
Thank you so much for watching!
Fun
Thank you for watching!
@havaseas I love your videos and other nordhavn videos as well
I was going to quit doing them until people told me they missed them. Us video makers really appreciate the positive comments. ❤
@havaseas please keep up the good work. I'm sure it's difficult to do. But I really like yours and others
Thanks for the video keep producing them anchored there many times for Harbor Feist but haven't been through the locks, James is great have seen many of his video's would love to have a Northaven but for now will have to do with Tiara and we keep are boat on Ashley cove in White Stone great anchor spot coming up down bay have snowbirds here during migrating times
We had never done locks before… these were great for practice. We have since gone thru with just the two of us and made it. We will have to check out Ashley Cove. Thanks for watching!
@@havaseas hope you settle for the winter in Florida
What a privilege it must be to have James on board. His Nordhavn knowledge has to be unequally the best in the world.
Not only that he is a very easy fun guest. He also never stops working. I call him the energizer bunny.
So far, if you had only one choice of cruise area, would it be Florida or Pacific NW?
Pacific Northwest for sure!!! We plan to head up to Maine and Eastern Canada this summer. We will see what that is like.
Another great video. Thank you again
Thanks for watching!
Exactly
🩺
Great to see this and thank you for sharing your adventures. James is a Yacht surgeon!!
Trauma Yacht Surgeon!
Watching the video in the engine room reminds us it will be our turn soon to change filters and oil! The more you do it over and over it just becomes second nature and you get faster at it :)
Yes…. This was the first time on the N50. It was a bit different from the N55.
Interesting to See James dressed in an Jersey. An Aussie working on Nordhavn.
He may have thought he would be taking it easy…. But, James doesn’t know how to take it easy. He is an incredibly hard worker.
He may have thought he would be taking it easy.. but I don’t think he knows how to take it easy. He is an incredibly hard worker.
What great timing, I have a bit of stuff in one of the canisters and I thought I had to that it apart, but the rinsing technic will be way better, Thanks, Dean N6062
So glad this video helped! That makes it so worthwhile!
🍻
🍻
Whole lot of valves to remember. I would need a large manual to instruct me . Looks like a full time job doing maintenance.
It does take a lot to stay on top it
I watched this one very closely for reasons you know why 😉. Hope you guys are doing well!! D&J
Me too!!! Eric said no way.
I like the nifty trick of rinsing out the racor. Gotta get one of those mini vacuum pumps, I think I said that when I was on board 😆
@@mvcoastalraven I can’t believe you don’t have one!!! You have all the cool stuff.
I have the big one from our previous boat, don't need with that much capacity on CR and as you know space is at a premium!
We did too to learn some great tips! Lots of valves and pumps and things to remember
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
👍🏻
10 micron filter element with Aqua block?
10 micron in the transfer filter and 30 micro in the primary filters.
I wish James would make more videos with his son. They are the most in-depth non- bias videos. We all know every boat has its pros and cons, and he shows them. Some boats are better for certain applications than others. James, please, more videos.
@DoctorNordhavn James does do great videos!
Although your travels are reportedly "Stressful" at times, I enjoy the sights and calmness of your reports. I would surely love to take the place of Distin. I have always loved the Seas/Water, but have never immersed myself to a level of investment as you two have. I am jealous to some level, but completely sated in your travels.
Thank you so much! You have it correct that Distin has the best role on the boat!
Been waiting on your next video, was not disappointed.
Hope you enjoyed the ride!
Great video, always loved James’s honest wealth of knowledge in his videos.
He has incredible knowledge and energy!
Excellent travels, the Bridge operator 😳 ( Bless her Heart ) 🤣😂
Yes! She got us both thru…
🍻
🍻
Nice
Thanks!!!
We’ve made this trip several times in M/V Sam McGee. We are enjoying your videos
We will have to keep an eye out for you! Question: I know a lot of people watch the videos wishing they were on a boat. What gets you watching boat channels?
@ lol. The election is over.
I like James’s dry sense of humour
It is fun to watch his face…. His eyes tell a lot!
ahh this is bringing back some memories. i did this trip with bernie this past may.
Did you have your boat documentation ready?
@@havaseas i have that stuff in a binder just behind the helm but they never asked me for it at that bridge.....that i can remember. i am on 475-48. i think we were sitting next to you at the anchorage just before you were hauling the boat for svc in palm beach.
Yes! We remember you! We have been asked for documentation every time at that bridge. Weird.
DEI bridge operator?
I do have to say she was nice. Nice goes a long way with me. It was just funny and a bit confusing. I was a little more concerned that Eric didn’t know we were headed north. 🤣
😂😂😂😂
Beautiful 50!! Thank you
Thank you! She is a pretty boat. Getting prettier too!
Did you ever report on the steering issue ?
Eric is going to do a little video to explain what happened. But basically the steering ram came unbolted and fell off. It is now on our engine room check list.
I had the same thing happen on my Carver 370 in a rough lake pontchartrain. Dropped anchor and was nearly sea sick by the time i had it repaired. It is now on my frequent things to check list.
We just watched this 5th Leg video and wondered about how rough it was the day before? We weathered a storm at Shearwater late last October and the south arm of the pier broke loose in the midst of the storm at about 2200 sending a couple boats out to anchor in the bay. We love Fury Cove and the beautiful beaches for our dogs!
Hi! The day before we got to Shearwater was fine. We actually were watching weather so we would be at the dock when the next storm came thru. So glad the docks held for us!!! We were checking weather each day and traveling when safe. The big concern was developing ice on the boat. I wish we would have stayed at Fury Cove in summer and explored.
Welcome back. Kimberly and Eric. Just now catching up. Miss you, two.
Thank you! Glad you found the new videos!
@havaseas Looks like you, two have been busy. And patience was a virtue.
@@helengreer7079 we have been extremely busy and the years are flying by! Not so good at our age. 😂
@@havaseas Totally understand. Hope things go smother for you.
learn now to use the camera!
He is trying! He is just starting to pick up the camera. He will get better.
How are you going to get the boat back to AK?
Good question!!! It will be a long trip!
Glad to see you back and that you solved issue of steering. Looking forward to what’s next
Thanks for watching. I am trying to put together our trip north! We had James on board and it smoother.
Rough passage! Glad you were able to figure out the steering problem.
Me too! It was scary. So glad Geoff was on board.
Long run time! Maybe like crossing Taku Inlet?! 😂
I think a little longer than that. Sure wouldn’t be doing over nighters on the inside passage.
Crazy times
Very crazy. I normally don’t share the mishaps but I might continue to along this journey.
@havaseas it shows the reality of ship board life.
Do you have any connection with Lake Havasu?
I am guessing you are asking this question because of our boat name…. We have a Havanese dog…. We played with Havanese and seas…. Havaseas!
On your next video, would love to see how your steering came apart and what you did to get it assembled again. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
I have asked Eric to put something together explaining it. Great idea!
stayed at the marina at Beaufort before...flew home from New Bern too..home of Pepsi. great place to stop on our many trips up and down the east coast in a Nordhvn 50 over the years
It was a very nice place to rest up. We needed some down time after those crazy months.
A bit of a rocky start to the new adventures of Havaseas hopefully this is the end and you have many years of smooth motoring now 🍻
It was a rocky start. James Knight flew in to meet us and was on board the rest of the trip North. It helped to have him on board working through the systems with us.
It's cool to see the ups and downs of a boat trip. Always great to see everyone pull into port safely!
Thanks! Sharing the things that aren’t fun is new to us…. we are finding people really do want to know.
Thanks for getting back into the videos. Hope we can meet in person one day, we are in Stuart.
Thanks for watching! I am struggling. It may be some time before we get back to Florida…. It is hot!
WOW what a trip! Thanks for sharing.
It was interesting…. Checking the steering ram is now on the engine room check list.
