I was fed up with the absolutely rubbish hose on my Nilfisk E140.3, so decided to find a solution to the problem. I needed to replace the awful plastic hose, but did not want to simply extend it and have to keep the plastic hose on the reel as this would cause pressure drop. I discovered that this same machine comes as a Gerni badged machine and as a STIHL, both without a hose reel. These machi...

hi Duncan, Can't believe its been 2 yrs since I carried out the mod. Just need your advice. Used the pressure washer today, how ever while not in use, the adaptor suddenly shot out of its location with the water gushing out under mains pressure. The securing pin was near by. Protruding out of the hole was a spring and a tiny plastic component. Q. How has the retaining clip become detached? Vibration? Any thoughts most welcome. Thanx. Will investigate myself tomorrow. Regards Pat
Hello Pat, Wow, has it been that long?! I can't believe it. I'll be really interested to see what you find tomorrow as I was fairly certain that retaining clip was in there very tight, so I'm stumped. Must be vibration, can be the only explanation. Please do come back Pat and let me know what you find, it may help others as well. All the best, Duncan.

Didn’t show how to change the window if it’s broken only the regulator.
thank you for the video, I helped my mother to replace the mechanism.. the wire was twisted round the wheel behind the motor.. same as you.. 👍
Hello Rob, I'm glad it was of some help. Seems to be a common failure then, as both of the ones I've replaced failed in the same way. All the best, Duncan.
Thank you 👏
Hi Duncan super vid about to do the same if your near Addington pls supervise me to fit the same ta steve
Hello Stephen, Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately I am very far away from there, but I can tell you that it is very easy to do. Just take your time and be methodical, it will all fit out of and back in the door. This was the second one I did and both were simple enough. All the best. Duncan.
Hello there do you still know the order Nummer for the Lefthand side window parts because ive got the same Problem with my Saab _93 from 1998
Hello, Sorry I don't have the number for it, but yours being a 1998 will be different. You can find the part numbers by going to esaabparts and selecting your model, this will give you diagrams of parts with the numbers. I had a quick check for you, but there are a few to choose from and it all depends on the chassis number. I hope this is of some help. All the best, Duncan.
Thanks
You're very welcome Edgar, thank you for watching. All the best, Duncan.
Thnx! 1000 like
Thank you, it means a lot. Glad I could be of some help. All the best, Duncan.
Good info although don't know why you unplugged the door harness .
Hello, Thank you for watching. I had to unplug the door card to get it out of the way, I found there wasn't enough room to work around it. Also leaving it connected means it scrapes along the floor and they're not hard plastic but soft touch vinyl meaning they get damaged. All the best, Duncan.
Like the alloys! Were those an option with the Aero?
Hello Sid, I'm pretty sure they were an option, I haven't seen them on many 9-3's. They're listed as ALU66 wheels if that means anything to you. Thank you for watching. All the best, Duncan.
I assume your E.140.3 is different from the E.150.2 where the hose disconnects from the reel and it is a simple job to fit a replacement.
Hello Hutton, Unfortunately, yes. The connector inside the reel is completely different and nobody makes a replacement for it yet. All the best, Duncan.
Hi can you tell where i can get a replacement hose as i bought the part on the video
Hello John, apologies for the late reply I've been recovering from a spinal injury. I can see you found the pinned comment. All the best, Duncan.
Is the adapter the same for the E145.3 10 model?
Hello, Apologies for the late reply, I've been recovering from a spinal injury. I can't say that it is 100 percent, but it seems to be. The best thing to do is open the front cover of the machine and take a look at the internals, if they look the same as the one in the video then it's a yes. I hope this helps. All the best, Duncan.
Looks like a deebot.. haha
Hay mate I have gerni 7300 in Australia, can I change the hose like you did
Hello, I have searched for the parts manual and it looks like the Gerni 7300 is the same internally. However I would take the front panel off to make sure before ordering any parts. The parts manual can be found here gerni.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Gerni-7300-Parts-Diagram-Ed3-Locked.pdf I hope that is of some help. All the best, Duncan.
Brilliant. Thanks. I have just ordered both thos parts you suggested, the Hose and the adaptor. My machine is call an E140.4, but i took off the cover and it looks identical. I think the only difference between the E140.3 and the E140.4 is the addition of the Bluetooth trigger on the Lance, which is hopeless, so it is left set on 'Full' and I have a stubby Trigger Gun, and seperate Foam Canon.
Hello Phill, Thank you and I'm glad I could help. Sounds like you've got a nice setup now. All the best, Duncan.

Great video thank you Duncan. I have the same machine. Recently it’s the water pressure has decreased. Do you know how to service the machine to increase water pressure? No issues with the supply coming from tap. Have run water through machine without hose connected to clear any possible air blocks , but still low on pressure. If you have any suggestions I’d be most appreciative. Many thanks Matt
Hello Matt, Sorry for the late reply, I've been dealing with a spinal injury. Has the machine seen a lot of use?, if so maybe it needs new Thrust collars or pistons?. Hard to say without taking it apart to inspect for wear. I hope I have been of some help. All the best, Duncan.
Thank you kindly for your reply - it was indeed the thrust collars! Which I’ve now replaced and all working fine now. Thanks again, Matt
Hi Matt, that's great that you've got it fixed, thanks for letting me know what it was as it will be helpful for others in the future. All the best, Duncan.
What size is the quick release for the hose
Hello, Sorry for the late reply, I've been dealing with a spinal injury. I don't know the size from memory, but when I am able to do more I will measure it for you. All the best, Duncan.
I came up with a solution to this which fixes the problem with the original hose. I unwound the full length of hose and tensioned it slightly to keep it straight. I then warmed the full length, a bit at a time with a heat gun. Once I'd finished I left it for a few minutes to cool then let off the tension. It worked! Be careful not to overdo it with the heat gun to avoid weakening the pressure resistance of hose. You're welcome.
Hello Phillip, sorry for the late reply, I've been dealing with a spinal injury. Sounds like a great idea for saving a few pounds. If the original length is fine for you, why go to the expense and trouble of changing. Thanks for your contribution, it will help others that maybe just want to get rid of that annoying coiling problem. All the best, Duncan.

I got nilfisk E145 to different types can this hose replacement been done on that model
Hello, Sorry for the late reply. What is the exact model number of your machine?. Alternatively, you could remove the front cover. It is very easy to remove, only a couple of screws. If it looks the same as the one in the video on the inside, then it can be done. All the best, Duncan.
Nilfisk e145. 4
Was try to replace hose with quality one from qwashers???
Hello, If you have a look at this PDF www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fnorthwestpowerwashers.co.uk%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2020%2F01%2FE140.3-Repair-manual.pdf&psig=AOvVaw1fdBA2wjv9pYXMMJ71pPYp&ust=1664962096730000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CA0QjhxqFwoTCOClsamhxvoCFQAAAAAdAAAAABBA On page 12 there is an image ( Fig 11 ) of the machine open at the front, if your machine has that brass coloured pipe then you can use the adapter to add a new hose and bypass the hose reel. It does seem that E145.4 is the same internally from the documents I can find, but it would be wise to open it and have a quick look just to be certain. I hope this is of some help. All the best, Duncan.
How to use nilfisk as pipe cleaner. I want yhe hose ditectly connect to sprayer without the gun
Hello, Sorry for the late reply. I'm afraid it's not possible to use the hose as a drain cleaner, it wouldn't have enough pressure without the gun. There is a special drain cleaning hose available, this attaches to the gun and works very well. All the best, Duncan.
Thanks for doing this video. I've hated the OE hose ever since I bought the E140.3 and it's finally got a split in the outer sheath so a good opportunity to change it out. You can get a rubber nilfisk hose that replaces the plastic one as a straight swap, but it's expensive so I've ordered the hose you suggest and found the other part available at North West Power Washers. It'll be great to get back to using a hose that actually lies flat rather than trying to wrap itself round everything.
Hello, Sorry for the late reply. How did you get on with it?. I found my machine to be much more useful after doing this upgrade, wish I had done it sooner. All the best, Duncan.
I actually got the hose delivered before the adapter so I just unplugged the lance then added the new hose in tandem and plugged the lance into the end of the new hose, leaving the old hose in situ on the reel. It seems to work fine when cleaning the car so I'm not going to bypass the pld hose and fit the adapter yet as when I wash the patio the old hose will give me an extra 10m which will comevin useful
Hello Adrian, I did consider doing that, but as I went with the 20 meter hose thought it may cause me to lose too much pressure. Just out of curiosity, what length hose did you go for?. All the best, Duncan.
Hi Duncan, I wanted the 15m hose but it was out of stock so went with the 10m one in the end so effectively have the same length hose as you now (The original 10m plastic supposedly anti kink one with the new 10m reinforced one attached to that) I managed to get the adapter too which I haven't fitted yet so will see how I get on with my existing setup but could always swap to a longer hose later. Once again thanks for doing this video as the original hose has been driving me mad ever since I got my jetwash. Cheers Ade
Hey, I have done this modification with my e160, everything seems to go well but won't stop pulsing once switched on, the pressure is all good but won't stop pulsing ever 2 seconds, any ideas?
Hello Aaron, Sorry for the late reply. Have you managed to sort this now?. Water pulsing is usually low water pressure on the supply side, or a slow loss of pressure on the outlet side. Perhaps have a quick check of o-rings to see if any are damaged?. I hope this is of some help. All the best, Duncan.
I'm about to do the same on my 2003 9-3 and same door. I ordered a new regulator to be safe. I wonder if you can easily just change the rollers on them? I can hear the motor work but cables sound like they are grinding on something so no window movement.
Hello, Sorry for the late reply. If you can hear a grinding, it is because the cable has moved on the roller and has been grinding them to pieces. It is not really possible to replace them as the cables are usually damaged as well. You stated you've already got the regulator, so probably best to put that in rather than mess with the rollers. You've probably already completed it by now, but best of luck if you haven't. All the best, Duncan.
@@FixedByDuncan Thanks. I just got the part a couple of days ago and will try it this weekend. Thanks for the guide!
Problem is my window don't work to start with. So cannot move up or down so I can locate bolt's.
Hello Turk, Is it the motor that doesn't work, or is it the mechanism that's broken?. Can you see if it's possible to cut the wire rope that the motor uses to move the runners up and down?. Make sure you secure the glass up top with some tape so it doesn't drop, or get another pair of hands to help you. You will need to have a replacement mechanism ready to fit as this will obviously destroy it. After cutting, you should be able to move the glass up and down by hand ( just watch your fingers ). I hope this is of some help. All the best, Duncan.

Is this for error s4?
Hello, Apologies for the delay in replying, I have been incredibly busy lately. This is for the four beep error with red light indicating a brushbar requiring too much current to rotate it. This can be caused by the motor spindle becoming clogged as in this video, or the actual brushbar getting jammed with hair. I have a follow up video that shows how to resolve the brushbar getting jammed. Once again, my apologies for not responding sooner. I hope this is of some help. All the best, Duncan.

Hi Duncan. Like the video, but I'm left with a problem. My window, same door, has developed a 'clunk' in operation. I thought I knew what the trouble was having been misled by a video referencing the replacement of regulator rollers. I bought some, as that video referenced 9-3 in the description, but it transpires the only Saab they fit is the 9-5, Doh! I now see that my issue is not down to old plastic rollers breaking up, but beyond that I'm stumped. Any ideas Sir? Regards.....
Hello Tim, With regards to a clunk, is it multiple or single?, does the window go up and down?. If multiple, I would take the mechanism out and look at the gear on the motor and the socket it goes in. Next port of call would be the rollers as you suspected, they can disintegrate causing the wire to wrap around and jump. Is the glass secure in the grip?, perhaps it is dropping when in operation?. Ultimately, the easiest way to see is to remove the mechanism. Can you source one from a breakers yard or Ebay?, they are fairly cheap. I hope this is of some help, All the best, Duncan.

Benefits from this upgrade?🙄🤔
Hello, The benefits are mostly a hose that doesn't kink, coil up and rub itself along the paintwork of your car. Also, the hose length makes your power washer much more versatile and more pleasant to use. There is also the fact that you can take your pick from not only Nilfisk attachments but also standard quick release attachments ( under chassis washers, extra long lances, generic drain cleaners etc ). I hope this helps, All the best, Duncan.
That part isn't available any more 😔
Hello Ratspeed Garage, Oh no, that's not good. Seems to be still in stock in Sweden, but not UK. I wonder if they don't want people doing this mod?. It doesn't look like it would be hard to replicate the part from a brass bar on a lathe, hopefully someone can come up with a solution if this part is not available anymore. All the best, Duncan.

Thank you my darling daughter :)
Thank you very much! it helpes me very much.
Hello Ryan, I'm glad I could be of some help. All the best, Duncan.
Very informative. Q. Are you able to completely remove the original hose so to utilise the reel with the replacement? I’m planning to carry out the same mod as my hose is leaking at the gun end crimp. I won’t need therefore, to reverse the mod. It would be great to be able to still use the reel. Q. I have the D PG 140.4, which has a slightly different front plate otherwise very similar. Do you foresee any problems? Q. To clarify, does your new hose have a universal quick release at the machine end & a Nilfisk male fitting at the working end, as per the original hose? Q. Your new gun doesnt seem to require a Nilfisk adapter. Does that mean you ordered this with a Nilfisk specific fitting? Thank you in advance.
Hello Patrick, Yes, it is possible to remove the hose from the reel completely. There is a wire clip that can be pulled to release the hose from inside the reel, if you unwind the hose completely you should be able to see it. cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0208/7184/products/QRChosereelconnectionstraight_4032x.jpg?v=1611329563 Have you removed the front panel to have a look at the housing inside to see if it matches?, this would probably be my first move. I will try and find a service manual for your model and link it here tomorrow. The quick release on the new hose is Nilfisk quick release and not universal, it fits nilfisk guns on one end and fits the quick release hose on the other end. The new gun has a Nilfisk pattern quick release, meaning it could be used with an original Nilfisk hose or the new hose. This is how I purchased it. www.directhoses.net/products/nilfisk-c-series-quick-fit-short-trigger-with-quick-fit-nozzles When you remove the hose from your reel, be sure to take a look at the end that comes out. Some models have a fitting that has been replicated and is therefore much easier to replace with a high quality hose. One of these: www.directhoses.net/collections/hoses-for-nilfisk-alto-pressure-washers/products/nilfisk-style-replacment-hose-quick-fit-trigger-hose-reel-connection If your hose has the straight connector like this one, then you can just replace your old hose with this one. www.cleanstore.co.uk/images/large/13049a.JPG If your hose has a cranked or bent connector like this, then you can't. brownspressurewashers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/9m-E140.3.jpg The difference can be seen in this image imgur.com/DY75o3I I hope I have been of some help.
