Pine Drawers Makeover - Upcycling and Repair. Stripping, sanding and painting.

I had an old set of pine drawers left over from the bedroom renovation project I recently completed, so I decided to give them a makeover and repair them.
I wanted to paint them white and had to replace the runners as the old ones had collapsed after years of use and abuse.
Paint and varnish remover was used on the drawer fronts, to see how it coped with the old varnish. The top and sides of the carcass were sanded to give it a key so the paint would stick.
I wanted to do a comparison over the long term with regards to durability, what would last longer?
Would it be the bare wood, or the keyed varnish?
