  • I was fed up with the absolutely rubbish hose on my Nilfisk E140.3, so decided to find a solution to the problem.
I needed to replace the awful plastic hose, but did not want to simply extend it and have to keep the plastic hose on the reel as this would cause pressure drop.
I discovered that this same machine comes as a Gerni badged machine and as a STIHL, both without a hose reel.
These machines use part number 128500622 to attach a hose directly to the pump.
I purchased a twenty metre hose from Direct Hoses along with the stubby gun shown.
    www.directhoses.net/collectio...
This hose fits directly on the new outlet on the machine, completely doing away with the plastic hose.
The beauty of this modification is that it can be reversed completely at any time.

I came up with a solution to this which fixes the problem with the original hose. I unwound the full length of hose and tensioned it slightly to keep it straight. I then warmed the full length, a bit at a time with a heat gun. Once I'd finished I left it for a few minutes to cool then let off the tension. It worked! Be careful not to overdo it with the heat gun to avoid weakening the pressure resistance of hose. You're welcome.

Hello Phillip, sorry for the late reply, I've been dealing with a spinal injury.
Sounds like a great idea for saving a few pounds.
If the original length is fine for you, why go to the expense and trouble of changing.
Thanks for your contribution, it will help others that maybe just want to get rid of that annoying coiling problem.
      All the best,

Brilliant. Thanks. I have just ordered both thos parts you suggested, the Hose and the adaptor.
My machine is call an E140.4, but i took off the cover and it looks identical. I think the only difference between the E140.3 and the E140.4 is the addition of the Bluetooth trigger on the Lance, which is hopeless, so it is left set on 'Full' and I have a stubby Trigger Gun, and seperate Foam Canon.

Thanks for doing this video. I've hated the OE hose ever since I bought the E140.3 and it's finally got a split in the outer sheath so a good opportunity to change it out. You can get a rubber nilfisk hose that replaces the plastic one as a straight swap, but it's expensive so I've ordered the hose you suggest and found the other part available at North West Power Washers. It'll be great to get back to using a hose that actually lies flat rather than trying to wrap itself round everything.

I actually got the hose delivered before the adapter so I just unplugged the lance then added the new hose in tandem and plugged the lance into the end of the new hose, leaving the old hose in situ on the reel. It seems to work fine when cleaning the car so I'm not going to bypass the pld hose and fit the adapter yet as when I wash the patio the old hose will give me an extra 10m which will comevin useful

      Hello Adrian,
I did consider doing that, but as I went with the 20 meter hose thought it may cause me to lose too much pressure.
Just out of curiosity, what length hose did you go for?.

Hi Duncan, I wanted the 15m hose but it was out of stock so went with the 10m one in the end so effectively have the same length hose as you now (The original 10m plastic supposedly anti kink one with the new 10m reinforced one attached to that) I managed to get the adapter too which I haven't fitted yet so will see how I get on with my existing setup but could always swap to a longer hose later. Once again thanks for doing this video as the original hose has been driving me mad ever since I got my jetwash. Cheers Ade

Thanks Duncan. As you say, their hose quality lets them down badly. Mine recently sprang a leak on an area that continually kinks. . I have a model 140.2, however, didn’t realise it was so different to your 140.3 model. Please note your guide does not apply to the 140.2 model. There are additional clips and T screws to release the blue front cover and when I eventually figured that out and removed it, there is no access to the semi circular water pipe to remove the pin and change the outlet. There is just a cover that cannot be removed from the front side. I think you would have to access via the other side of the machine - removing several parts of the nit first. Not what I had hoped! My gun is also now cracked as I had a real problem releasing the hose connection! So sadly I will have to just replace the gun and hose with a standard Nilfisk and probably do the same again in 4 years time when it break again! Great video though. I will buy an old version next time and do the alteration!

    • @FixedByDuncan

      Hello Herby,
Thank you for the kind words, they mean a lot.
If you have a 140.2 it should be even easier to change the hose as it has the straight coupling in the hose reel.
      See this part:
      www.directhoses.net/products/nilfisk-style-replacment-hose-quick-fit-trigger-hose-reel-connection
Have a look inside your hose reel and remove the hose, does the end match the one on that replacement hose?, if yes then just replace it with that one.
No more plastic rubbish, and they even do a stubby gun to fit.
I hope that is of some help,
      All the best,
      Duncan.

One more thing, here is the parts manual for your machine
      www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fnilfiskdealer.nl%2Famfile%2Ffile%2Fdownload%2Ffile%2F14%2Fproduct%2F26%2F&psig=AOvVaw1tl7KVnN4XI9Pa9j38baBi&ust=1632386730597000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAwQjhxqFwoTCPiF8tGYkvMCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD
It is possible to convert the hose reel out, using parts made for a model lower down the spec range.
Using parts made for a model without a hose reel it should be possible to remove it completely.
I would check the connection in your reel first though, that way you can just use the hose I suggested before.
      All the best,
      Duncan.

Used the pressure washer today, how ever while not in use, the adaptor suddenly shot out of its location with the water gushing out under mains pressure. The securing pin was near by. Protruding out of the hole was a spring and a tiny plastic component. Q. How has the retaining clip become detached? Vibration? Any thoughts most welcome. Thanx.

    Very informative.
    Q. Are you able to completely remove the original hose so to utilise the reel with the replacement? I’m planning to carry out the same mod as my hose is leaking at the gun end crimp. I won’t need therefore, to reverse the mod. It would be great to be able to still use the reel.
    Q. I have the D PG 140.4, which has a slightly different front plate otherwise very similar. Do you foresee any problems?
    Q. To clarify, does your new hose have a universal quick release at the machine end & a Nilfisk male fitting at the working end, as per the original hose?
    Q. Your new gun doesnt seem to require a Nilfisk adapter. Does that mean you ordered this with a Nilfisk specific fitting?
    Thank you in advance.

    • @FixedByDuncan
      @FixedByDuncan  2 года назад +1

      Hello Patrick,
Yes, it is possible to remove the hose from the reel completely. There is a wire clip that can be pulled to release the hose from inside the reel, if you unwind the hose completely you should be able to see it.
      cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0208/7184/products/QRChosereelconnectionstraight_4032x.jpg?v=1611329563
Have you removed the front panel to have a look at the housing inside to see if it matches?, this would probably be my first move.
I will try and find a service manual for your model and link it here tomorrow.
The quick release on the new hose is Nilfisk quick release and not universal, it fits nilfisk guns on one end and fits the quick release hose on the other end.
The new gun has a Nilfisk pattern quick release, meaning it could be used with an original Nilfisk hose or the new hose. This is how I purchased it.
      www.directhoses.net/products/nilfisk-c-series-quick-fit-short-trigger-with-quick-fit-nozzles
When you remove the hose from your reel, be sure to take a look at the end that comes out. Some models have a fitting that has been replicated and is therefore much easier to replace with a high quality hose.
      One of these:
      www.directhoses.net/collections/hoses-for-nilfisk-alto-pressure-washers/products/nilfisk-style-replacment-hose-quick-fit-trigger-hose-reel-connection
If your hose has the straight connector like this one, then you can just replace your old hose with this one.
      www.cleanstore.co.uk/images/large/13049a.JPG
If your hose has a cranked or bent connector like this, then you can't.
      brownspressurewashers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/9m-E140.3.jpg
The difference can be seen in this image

Or there is an adaptor to connect an M22 thread directly to the machine hose, but this would still need a gun to control the drain cleaner.

      I hope this helps,

Nice video and well explained! I'm looking to do same mod to mine, however I'm not able to order the parts you listed here in Sweden and therefore have a question about the fitting that connects on the 1628500622 spare part. What's the name of the connector that you attach to the pressure washer?

      Hello Hampus,
Thank you for the kind words, they mean a lot.
The part 128500622 is available in Sweden, it can be found here :
      www.centralservice.se/outlet-insert-quick-coupling-p-5782.html
The hose has the connector already installed on it, it came from direct hoses and can be ordered worldwide. I am not sure if you can buy the connector from them separately.
If you need anymore help just let me know,
      All the best,
      Duncan.

I assume your E.140.3 is different from the E.150.2 where the hose disconnects from the reel and it is a simple job to fit a replacement.

      Hello,
Apologies for the late reply, I've been recovering from a spinal injury.
I can't say that it is 100 percent, but it seems to be.
The best thing to do is open the front cover of the machine and take a look at the internals, if they look the same as the one in the video then it's a yes.
      I hope this helps.

      Hello,
      Sorry for the late reply.
What is the exact model number of your machine?.
Alternatively, you could remove the front cover. It is very easy to remove, only a couple of screws.
If it looks the same as the one in the video on the inside, then it can be done.
      All the best,

      Hello,
If you have a look at this PDF
      www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fnorthwestpowerwashers.co.uk%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2020%2F01%2FE140.3-Repair-manual.pdf&psig=AOvVaw1fdBA2wjv9pYXMMJ71pPYp&ust=1664962096730000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CA0QjhxqFwoTCOClsamhxvoCFQAAAAAdAAAAABBA
On page 12 there is an image ( Fig 11 ) of the machine open at the front, if your machine has that brass coloured pipe then you can use the adapter to add a new hose and bypass the hose reel.
It does seem that E145.4 is the same internally from the documents I can find, but it would be wise to open it and have a quick look just to be certain.
I hope this is of some help.
      All the best,
      Duncan.

      Hello Peter,
I got the part from this place
      northwestpowerwashers.co.uk/product/nilfisk-outlet-insert-quick-coupling-128500622/
Make sure to open and check your machine before buying, as Nilfisk did make other E140s that don't use this part and can just be upgraded from the hose reel.
There should be a link in the description for the hose and gun, if needed.
      I hope this helps,

    • @FixedByDuncan
      @FixedByDuncan  2 года назад +1

      Hello Peter,
The connector on northwest power washers has a male end that is identical to the quick fit male end of your existing hose that goes in the gun.
The new hose will then have a female end that connects to the new coupler and the other end has the quick fit male to fit in the gun.

Seems to be still in stock in Sweden, but not UK.
I wonder if they don't want people doing this mod?.

I searched every where and managed to track down to Sweden and Holland. I emailed both companies but unfortunately due to Brexit they no longer supply to UK.
*Northwest had offered me a refund if I found another supplier.

    Benefits from this upgrade?🙄🤔

    • @FixedByDuncan
      @FixedByDuncan  2 года назад

      Hello,
The benefits are mostly a hose that doesn't kink, coil up and rub itself along the paintwork of your car. Also, the hose length makes your power washer much more versatile and more pleasant to use.
There is also the fact that you can take your pick from not only Nilfisk attachments but also standard quick release attachments ( under chassis washers, extra long lances, generic drain cleaners etc ).
      I hope this helps,
      All the best,
      Duncan.
