  • Today I am finally getting around to fixing the front electric window on my SAAB 9-3 2003-2006.
There seems to be an issue that causes the wires to come off the rollers and get wrapped around the motor spindle, this is the second time I've had to carry out this same repair.

Great video and thank you. I feel prepared to tackle mine now. I did wonder how expensive this repair might be and the answer was right before my ears the whole time. Just ask the birds ! It's cheap, cheap, cheap..

      Hello Frankie,
Sorry for the late reply, I've been dealing with a spinal injury.
Thank you, I'm glad it was of some help.
I do love those birds, but not on random days at 3am when they start singing.
      All the best,
      Duncan.

      Hello Rob,
I'm glad it was of some help.
Seems to be a common failure then, as both of the ones I've replaced failed in the same way.
      All the best,
      Duncan.

I'm about to do the same on my 2003 9-3 and same door. I ordered a new regulator to be safe. I wonder if you can easily just change the rollers on them? I can hear the motor work but cables sound like they are grinding on something so no window movement.

      Hello,
      Sorry for the late reply.
If you can hear a grinding, it is because the cable has moved on the roller and has been grinding them to pieces.
It is not really possible to replace them as the cables are usually damaged as well.
You stated you've already got the regulator, so probably best to put that in rather than mess with the rollers.
You've probably already completed it by now, but best of luck if you haven't.
      All the best,
      Duncan.

Hi Duncan. Like the video, but I'm left with a problem. My window, same door, has developed a 'clunk' in operation. I thought I knew what the trouble was having been misled by a video referencing the replacement of regulator rollers. I bought some, as that video referenced 9-3 in the description, but it transpires the only Saab they fit is the 9-5, Doh!
I now see that my issue is not down to old plastic rollers breaking up, but beyond that I'm stumped. Any ideas Sir? Regards.....

      Hello Tim,
With regards to a clunk, is it multiple or single?, does the window go up and down?.
If multiple, I would take the mechanism out and look at the gear on the motor and the socket it goes in.
Next port of call would be the rollers as you suspected, they can disintegrate causing the wire to wrap around and jump.
Is the glass secure in the grip?, perhaps it is dropping when in operation?.
Ultimately, the easiest way to see is to remove the mechanism. Can you source one from a breakers yard or Ebay?, they are fairly cheap.
I hope this is of some help,
      All the best,
      Duncan.

Hello there do you still know the order Nummer for the Lefthand side window parts because ive got the same Problem with my Saab _93 from 1998

      Hello,
Sorry I don't have the number for it, but yours being a 1998 will be different.
You can find the part numbers by going to esaabparts and selecting your model, this will give you diagrams of parts with the numbers.
I had a quick check for you, but there are a few to choose from and it all depends on the chassis number.
I hope this is of some help.
      All the best,
      Duncan.

Good info although don't know why you unplugged the door harness .

      Hello,
      Thank you for watching.
I had to unplug the door card to get it out of the way, I found there wasn't enough room to work around it. Also leaving it connected means it scrapes along the floor and they're not hard plastic but soft touch vinyl meaning they get damaged.
      All the best,
      Duncan.

Problem is my window don't work to start with.
So cannot move up or down so I can locate bolt's.

    • @FixedByDuncan
      @FixedByDuncan  2 года назад

      Hello Turk,
Is it the motor that doesn't work, or is it the mechanism that's broken?.
Can you see if it's possible to cut the wire rope that the motor uses to move the runners up and down?. Make sure you secure the glass up top with some tape so it doesn't drop, or get another pair of hands to help you.
You will need to have a replacement mechanism ready to fit as this will obviously destroy it.
After cutting, you should be able to move the glass up and down by hand ( just watch your fingers ).
I hope this is of some help.
      All the best,
      Duncan.

@@theturk3874 Take the switch apart and wash it with alcohol and a toothbrush its common for the board to corrode where the contact happends on the board. In my case it needed some scraping as well.

Didn’t show how to change the window if it’s broken only the regulator.

      Hello Stephen,
Thank you for the kind words.
Unfortunately I am very far away from there, but I can tell you that it is very easy to do.
Just take your time and be methodical, it will all fit out of and back in the door.
This was the second one I did and both were simple enough.
      All the best.
      Duncan.
