Thank you SO much for this fantastic tutorial. I’ve had my 2005 9-3 from new but last winter was the first time I had a pond in the footwell, having now seen the contents of the drain gulley, I think I’ve been very lucky: 18 years worth of leaves had turned into a lovely compost and completely blocked it. All clear now with a new foam gasket replacing the one that had almost completely perished, my next job is to follow your other tutorial and lift the carpet to dry everything out. Thanks again 😊

Thanks Cyd. I’m new to Saabs and my 05 9-3 had the exact same problem in heavy rain and when I washed it. Cleaned the drain bung out underneath the cabin filter thinking it was that and it was still doing it. I’ve just done the seat around the filter housing earlier this evening and your tutorial made it Uber easy - took 30 minutes from start to finish and cost about £13 in foam gasket and silicone. Thankyou!
Thanks for this video. My car was parked up for a few weeks when I was working away, and during which we had a few torrential rain storms. When I got home I found my passenger footwell under an inch of water. My heater fan had stopped working and it all made sense after watching this video. I found the draining plug blocked with dirt which was easy to clear just as you said. Anyway, I was able to save my fan by simply accessing it through the pollen filter and spraying it with lubricant while I turned it with my fingers. After a few minutes the motor started to spin under its own steam. All it cost me was a few squirts of WD40 and a few minutes of my time. I'm a very happy bunny.

@@CycloneCyd Yes, that was me. Will have a look at the drying vid, thanks. The carpet feels pretty dry now but I don't like the idea of water being trapped near the amp! Thanks again.
Perfect video and everything needed to know to keep the dreaded water out. Even if it's not leaking I think it's best to do it, because sooner or later with the age of the 9-3 it will leak. And it's the perfect time and weather at the moment. I've just finished doing this job, my tips- use a old credit card type scraper to get the worst off, finish the rest off with lighter fluid on a cloth ( easy work) I used double sided glazing foam tape 12mm x 4mm, adhesive on both sides. Must be at least 4mm thick as the filter housing is slightly recessed. (4mm is ideal) With the same fitting procedure as Cyd. ( Good tip - keep the final join at the bottom of the filter housing) Do a few practice fittings before taking the outer tape off to do the final fit. Once that foam tape as touched down it will be for life believe me. No need for any silicone with double sided quality glazing tape. Cheers.
Thanks Shawshank, yes I'd agree that every 9-3 owner should look at this on heir car. The newest 9-3s are 10 years old now and that OE foam is poor. I used a sharp wood chisel and some brake cleaner. It comes off easy enough, so whatever is to hand. The silicon is belt and braces really, but it's impossible to know what kind of foam people around the world will be able to get, so it helps to be sure of a seal that will last.
@@CycloneCyd Thanks for the reply, my name is Chris. I've sent you a "coffee" recently and I will do so again as your video's have helped with the jobs on the 9-3 so much. Thanks again.
It's worth the effort. A lot of people vent the car to dry the carpet, but forget (or don't realise) about the water under the carpet. If left it'll rot the floor out.
Thanks for the help! My drain was severely clogged. I had no idea it was going to be such an easy fix! Probably saved me a lot instead of taking it into a garage.
Cyclone Cyd your explanations are very clear and well demonstrated through video. The fact you do these tips means I don’t have to make mistakes or spend unnecessary time because you’ve done the tutorial. As an aside, I noticed the plastic engine cover wasn’t in-situ...is that deliberate?
Thanks for the videos man. Thought my heater core was going out because my passenger floor board is soaked, tasted the wetness and it didn't taste sweet so that told me it was water and not coolant which is a blessing. And it's only a small stream on the right side of the floor board that goes up under my glove box( passenger is on right side of car.
What a great video, i've got a damp carpet in the rear passenger footwell, still trying to find the culprit for that, but thought i'd check the cabin filter amongst other things whilst playing around with the car....approx 1 1'2" water sitting in the pan, drain plug totally bunged up, a/c is working still with no water issues in the passenger footwell, but followed your vid anyways so hopefully no issues in the future!!! A big thumbs up!!!!
Excellent videos, my wife's car heater packed in and the control unit video as well this water ingress one were very helpful, I've had 25 of the classic 900s but I'm not equally as clued in with these GM versions, so these videos were really useful. Cheers!
Thanks Cyd. It turns out this works for my Cadillac BLS because as we all know they are basically the same under the skin! (although my cabling is different, everything else is the same including the filter itself)
Very helpful advice. Thank you for sharing. The 1999 convertible 9-3 automatic I’ve just bought did an average of just 1,300 miles between MoTs since 2003, yet it was fully serviced by a main dealer every year, with everything, including oils and all the filters replaced regardless of necessity - apparently each time! Am hoping all these other important checks and maintenance were also carried out. 71,000 miles in 22 years is not a lot.

I am in the US and have a 2007 model year 9-3. There is an additional black plastic cover that goes between the white filter housing and the long wiper cowl, in which I assume is to reduce the likelihood of water ingress.
This happened to my 9-3 during the storms of early 2022 in the UK. It was like driving with bathloads of water being thrown at the car. the damage became clear when my fan stayed ON leading to a flat battery. My cabin filter and water outlet must have been blocked as the module behind short-circuited. This was fixed by Abbott Racing in Suffolk who I highly recommend. It's so common they diagnosed the problem over the phone.
Hi There I’m a bit concerned about removing the wiper arms do I need any special tools I’ve heard of a puller is that needed and finally what about replacing them is there anything I need to do 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Thanks Cyd, I have a soaking rear drivers side carpet. No issues with seals on the door I can see. Could water be tracking in through the cabin filter and out through the vents under the driver’s seat?
Hello Cyd - good work as always, great to learn from your videos! I've just meet some opinions about this kind of fix in Saab's 9-3 and some of the owners recommend not to use a sillicone due to the fact, that it can cause a problem with rust in the follow time. Insted of using silicone, they've recommended to use a butyl sealent or poliuretan sealant.

Thank you jetranger81, don't forget to share with anyone else you know with a 9-3 👍👍
thanks for all your saab 9.3 videos. ı fixed all my car little problems by watchıng your vıdeos .hı from turkey
Hello Turkey! Welcome aboard. Which did you find the most useful?
@@CycloneCyd air filter video and ı have the same problem and ı fixed it just.and inside trim videos expeciallly how theır removes.maybe you can show how the car get in water inside from right and left side.!!! ''sunroof drain hoses''if those hoses get out of place two sides will wet as like that.
just found the fix to the second issue I'm having on my Saab on your channel 5 minutes after I found your washer nozzle fix. Subscribed!... Thanks Cyd
Cool, thanks
Going to do this at the same time as the filter, had some water on the floor today, very small amount. Noticed the floor wet before but though it was from my umbrella and having to rush getting in the car during a rain storm! Lol Thank you again!
So well done. Nice tempo, steady camerawork and detailed explained
Wow I was trying to find how to fix this, thank you so much dude :)
Glad I could help
Thanks Cyd, My Saab 9-3 2006 showed the problem of the leakage. I used Butyl mastic in stead of foam strip. Stays elastical for "lifetime"😊
Thank you for these videos! ✊
Thank you very much for this video, Cyd! Just inherited my Mum's old Saab 9-3 after she bought a new car. This was one of the first issues we came across. Soaked footwell and the faint smell of socks! Less than a couple of hours of work and a trip to Screwfix and we're sorted. Will be getting you that coffee :D
Glad I could help! Ah, yes. Screwfix. Like a fettlers Aladins cave!! I did recieve a coffee yesterday from someone called Emma. there was no note attached, but I'm guessing that was yourselves. Thank you, much appreciated!
BTW there is also a video about drying out: ruclips.net/video/VEPIuDomLYI/видео.html
@@CycloneCyd Yes, that was me. Will have a look at the drying vid, thanks. The carpet feels pretty dry now but I don't like the idea of water being trapped near the amp! Thanks again.
Thanks Cyd for this great tutorial! Was the first time I repaired something on my car by myself and it was fun + worked perfectly. I follower more 👍
Awesome, well done. I hope this gives you the confidence to tackle more jobs.
@@shawshankkid thanks chris. yes, perfect for the job for our UK based friends.
Thanks for the coffee. Appreciated
Thanks for the size of the tape. Big help thank you
Thanks for size of foam tape ! 👍
Very well described. Will get to work on my 2005 93. Many Thanks.
Very well explained!
Brilliant work, again, Cyd! Very informative, clear and helpful. Thanks for continuing to do these great videos...much appreciated!
My pleasure, Adam. Which have you found most helpful?
Nice work!
Excellent video! Thank you!
Excellent video!
Thank you very much Fanitik!
Thanks for posting the video Cyd, rerally well explained and an excellent use of close ups too! Keep up the good work.
very thorough great video thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks!
Job jobbed!
Excellent videos, my wife's car heater packed in and the control unit video as well this water ingress one were very helpful, I've had 25 of the classic 900s but I'm not equally as clued in with these GM versions, so these videos were really useful.
Cheers!
Great to hear! Do you still have a 900?
Thanks Cyd - solved the issue I was having, very good video
Lots of people seem to know about the scuttle bung getting clogged, but not the filter holder seal. So common too.
Thanks Cyd. It turns out this works for my Cadillac BLS because as we all know they are basically the same under the skin! (although my cabling is different, everything else is the same including the filter itself)
Yes, many commonalities. Nice work.
Nicely explained & easy to follow!
Highly recommend!
Great to hear! I do try hard to make my videos accessible to all.
Thanks for this great video a quick and lasting solution
You're welcome!
Thanks for your knowledge and time to explain it!
Hi Ramon, you are welcome. Have you got this problem with a Saab?
@@CycloneCyd Yes, it has been raining this week and I found the passenger area wet. First clear the drains, but it was not enough. Thanks to your explanation, I have found the same deteriorated rubber, I have already changed it. Now I can only wait.
Thanks again!
A greeting from Spain
Great informative video ! 👍
Excellent work.
Bought a new cabin filter holder and reinstalled as water runs down bulkhead as original
Seal gone on cabin filter - can take off and reseal
Great work as ever !
Think cabin filter holder was about £29 from Saab Tec Welwyn Garden - had to get from Sweden
Brilliant video thank you as ever
Hope you didn’t mind me adding my little bit ?
Colin
Great info Colin. Informative input is always fantastic. We can all help each other.

Possible tip for Saab 9.3 convertible owners ? The horrible rubber shark fin aerial can be upgraded to 9.5 plastic outer - far more robust and stylish
Bought outer 9.5 fin from Neo Brothers - carefully dismantle old fin - trim down internal - phone and Sat nav by about 1/2 cm bond into new shark fin- apply small amount of mastic on base - bolt down - water proof and stylish ! C👌
Thank you very good video very helpful
Cyd, I had this problem today! But I'm in Queensland Australia and it hasn't rained in weeks! I tasted the bloody stuff and it wasn't sweet at all. My coolant is bright green and this stuff seems it's just like water.... the puzzle continues!!!
Blocked ac condensate drain? You'll have to go underneath to get at it.
Excellent explanation!
Glad you think so! It's an easy fix, but the housing seal is so often missed
I was reluctant to use silicone in case I have to remove it someday. Extruded butyl rope is a good alternative to foam+silicone.
Thanks for sharing. Question (not judging, I am genuinely curious) this is such an easy repair, why not DIY? Why pay someone else to do it?
@@CycloneCyd Fair question, Cyd. I spent months working away this year and didn't have the time, energy or inclination, and needed to fix my car asap.
@@T11639 I get that. 'Life' just gets in the way sometimes.
Helped a lot! Thanks a mil!
You're welcome! Did you also see this ruclips.net/video/VEPIuDomLYI/видео.html
Hi There I’m a bit concerned about removing the wiper arms do I need any special tools I’ve heard of a puller is that needed and finally what about replacing them is there anything I need to do 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Really helpful. Thanks.
Glad to hear it! Did you get your car dried out okay?
I just did this thank you for your amazing video. Do you know how to change out the windshield fluid reservoir tank?
Than you for the video 🙂👌🏻
Hi, what about if the water is on drivers side?
Thanks Cyd, I have a soaking rear drivers side carpet. No issues with seals on the door I can see. Could water be tracking in through the cabin filter and out through the vents under the driver’s seat?
Hello. I have a water leak into the trunk on the left side. It's a bit strange because I have a wet rear seat opening lever. Where does it come from?
Hello Cyd - good work as always, great to learn from your videos!
I've just meet some opinions about this kind of fix in Saab's 9-3 and some of the owners recommend not to use a sillicone due to the fact, that it can cause a problem with rust in the follow time. Insted of using silicone, they've recommended to use a butyl sealent or poliuretan sealant.
It'll only cause rust in contact with bare metal. In this location it's got electrostatic primer and a paint layer between it and the metal.
@@CycloneCyd Thanks for this knowledge, hope for more videos about 9-3 fixes!
