- Have always loved the Mercedes CLK - it's a 20 year old car that still looks elegant, timeless, classy and luxurious. I picked up one for a sunny day cruiser back in 2021, and have been doing the odd repair and upgrade over the years.
This is a common problem, when you raise the roof there's these little bits of fabric that stick out at the rear window. The most likely cause is worn out and broken elastics in the roof mechanism. Fortunately if you've got a bit of time (and elastic) available, you can fix this yourself easily for a few dollars.
Please like comment and subscribe - it gives me a reason to make more videos! Would also appreciate content suggestions. I love all cars - petrol, electric, euro, japanese - as long as it's interesting, I'm all for it!
I've uploaded another CLK roof repair video - if the side fabric doesn't fold in at the rear window, the hem has come undone - this is how you fix it ruclips.net/video/UGE5z2ereaM/видео.html
Thanks for video!! Trouble is Fixed!! Really was looking for that video a years!!!
hope it helps! i have another video on the way for another common convertible roof problem where the hem comes undone and the cable doesn't pull in the rear side panels, stay tuned.
Crikey mate! I've been looking for a solution to this problem for years now. Thanks for the video!
Glad the vid helps. Subscribe to the channel, I've got a few other CLK vids to upload inc changing drive belt, tensioners, stereo etc
I have just the same problem and I am happy to see this fix video and will try it Asap selve. Thank you😊
Good luck, it's an easy cheap fix
Thanks m8.. what seems a simple fix for a very annoying problem x
well, for a 20 year old car at least it's a very quick, cheap and easy fix, unlike some other issues that have happened. On my CLK I've replaced the radiator, water pump, oil cooler, alternator so for the procedures I recorded I'll upload a few more videos too.
Awesome fix thank you so much. Do u have email that i can reach you for advice on 1 more roof issues. My a209 side door roof where the window closes 100% have some cloth dropping drown from the roof. Would i be able to send you some photos of it
DIOS BENDIGA SUS MANOS Y SU INTELIGENCIA 🇵🇷👌
Thank you - good luck fixing your car!
Dude - how do I refit a loose exterior pillar panel on the front? THe thing that looks like it holds the windscreen in!
thanks for uploading this video.
Damn what a nice video.
I have one question.
Did you attach elastic band to the metal with just a knot? you don't have to secure it against slipping
erm... yep at the time I just wanted to try a quick fix and knotted the elastic around the metal. So far so good, it's been quite a few months since I did the fix and the roof is still closing up correctly. And if something goes wrong, it would only take a few minutes to get back in there and assess what fixes need to be done.
Würde es so gerne bei meinem machen aber schon beim zuschauen wird es schwer 😂😅😅
will this repair also work on 2011 A207 cabriolet with similar problems?
No reason you can't have a go - the A207 is a mild evolution of the A209 so the roof mechanism I believe will be very similar.
great vid!!
Can you fit My Mercedes
Fly me first class to your location and put me up in a 5 star accommodation and the answer is yes.
Love both videos on the roof repair, will follow your excellent and easy to follow advice. My 2006 CLK 63amg has a problem also with the seam parting. I imagine yours will also fail at some point, (sorry, but it seems inevitable). My question is what adhesive would you suggest? Thanks anyway, you are a star👍👍👍
Glad to help! If you're talking about a major seam (eg the long one above the window) I'd start with one of the adhesives in the video description first, so far it's working well on my hem repair.
i just mended mine for £5 and it took me 15mins.a company wanted £380.
Well company's gotta make money to pay their bills - but this just goes to show you the value of DIY. Good job!
What happens if straps are ripped completely
well the elastic straps on mine were completely disintegrated which is why I used new elastics sewn into the same place. There's always a way to fix things if you can think it through - good luck!
Can the top still work if strap is broken my is broken im scared to drop top
Great idea. I have same issue. Great help👍🏽
That was awesome dude. Can you come down to east London UK ? 😂
yeah man I used to live in enfield many years ago. Buy me a plane ticket and i'll be there tomorrow 😁
@@bozugarage wow small world even though you're across on the other side of London.
Id not say worthless! I think its a Gem! an easy to work on Mercedes and plenty of parts :)
haha - a bit tongue in cheek I admit - what I mean is someone paid AUD $135,000 when this car was new, and I paid about 5% of that. CLKs are an amazing bargain, built well, drive great, looks amazing, and yes so far very easy to work on. Love driving this car on a crisp sunny day. Hunting for a CLK55 or CLK63 cabriolet now but there's not many in Australia for sale.
@@bozugarage great cars! lol
Thanks from the heart, I just have such a problem on my Clk
Have a go at fixing it, it's cheap and easy :)
