I wonder if putting a corner brace at a 45 degree angle and about 1/5th the total width on each side of the conduit pipes would help with sagging and overall strength and stability? First you ran over your neighbor's mailbox, now you had to replace your mailbox. 😂

I love your positive attitude. It can be hard to focus on anything but the negative when storms (literally and figuratively) hit our lives. But you clung to the true positives, acknowledged the true negatives, and fixed what you could. Love that attitude :)

Oh my Kelli, what a storm! Yes, there are so many lessons to be learned in our gardens. I have been meaning to thank you for the "sunshine" in the eyes tip, and since you mentioned it, I will share my experience so far. I have been going out first thing to pray and read while catching the light, even on overcast days. I feel that my vision is slowly changing. I have bad sight as well. It has definitely improved my sleep as well. It has also been such a blessing meeting the Lord outside! I've been a little intimidated because we have a bear problem (black bears) where I live. We have many, but there is one we all call Norman, he is ginormous (500-600 pounds minimum) and saunters right by where I sit regularly. I keep my bear spray at my side and stayed prayed up!

Hello Kelli! I love your work, you are an inspiration to me in my homemaking journey. Even though I've been a sahm for 8 years, I didn't fully accept (hard to get over the not having a job thing!) or come into it until the last few years and more so now embracing it as a blessing to be my husband's helper. Thank you for your perspective, you are such a blessing and I thank God to have found your channel. 💛 Even with facing those storms you were industrious and used what you had and still reaped a bounty, blessings in disguise. The usnea is a great find! Good medicine. Were you able to get any of the fallen trees chipped? You could try a hugelculture bed with some of the smaller branch stuff. The mailbox post was perfect! Maybe for the tomatoes next year, try a cattle panel hoop trellis. An investment that would be worth it. We had some pumpkins and butternut squash come up in the old pig pen and set up a cattle panel trellis for it. Best thing we ever did for a garden space! So much squash!! The tomatoes could climb and drape over it and make it easy to pick fruit. Just some thoughts. Anyway, have a great day and thank you for everything! God bless!

My goodness I’m sorry for the upheaval the storm caused but what a blessing that you didn’t suffer mass damage. The new mailbox post is quite fun! It matches so well with the garden as a whole. I have had to garden with open hands from our very first garden in 2020. I tend to be a personality that likes immediate results for my efforts. I most enjoy crafts and projects that produce my desired outcome quickly. The garden was no different. I had to learn everything and it meant transforming how I approached things. It’s been hot here earlier than normal and now we’re experiencing weather that is still hot just not scorching. The early intense heat took a toll on the plants and it’s disappointing to not have the production we have had in previous years. Much like matters of faith, we can plant the seed but we don’t always get to see the blessing of a life transformed. The garden has been seeded but the harvest may not be in tomatoes on my schedule but the lessons learned while walking and talking with the Lord feed my soul in ways I never would have guessed and at a much slower pace without the immediate results I thought I wanted. Oh! I got my tea order, thank you. I love how sweet the package looked and the note included on the tag. The attention to detail and the effort to make the purchase feel special is something missing today in big business. Thank you for being true to your convictions and for sharing encouragement to all your followers. 🤗

When I was growing up, being a “housewife” was not an option. It was looked down upon and considered an offensive word. It seems like nowadays it’s seen as an option again. “Homemaker” is a more accurate word, but I don’t mind either word. My job is to take care of my husband. I am grateful for this mission in my life. It’s lovely to be a housewife and helper. Whether the woman is a wife with children or not. It’s a lovely calling & a true calling 🙏

Your vid got me thinking about how God-fearing folks want to feel that they are contributing to a relationship. I feel there are 2 priceless things we can always offer. If someone feels they are falling short for whatever reason, they can offer: 1) companionship, and 2) the ability to pray. These are priceless contributions. If anything happened to me or my husband where one of us became incapacitated in some way, that person can still be a companion and pray for us. These are precious and invaluable offerings to the relationship and also to the world at large. They might sound small but they can enable sick, elderly and disabled to continue to do Gods work 🙏

Agree. Women should consider coming home before getting pregnant. Oh man I came home after giving birth. Everything hit me at once. I was now a new mom, recovering career woman, recovering from surgery, cleaner, homemaker, financial advisor 😂 (my hobby/degree). The homemaking was the hardest because growing up i wasn’t taught or even expected to clean or cook. We were fortunate enough to not worry about it. But now that was all me without any tools or teacher. My mom as well had helpers when growing up. She couldn’t teach what she didn’t know. I had no where to turn except google/youtube. It’s doable but I would have loved coming home at least a year before to learn how to cook and clean and have those habits ready for a baby. Still learning after all the above after 3 years. Yet I’m here to be better.

And what about your goals? What about your values? What about your opinions? What about your identity? Because you have one. I know the church does not want you to know but you have your own identity and your own life to live. You are not here for men, children or anyone else. You are here to live your life. You can choose to live that life with a man or whoever you choose. But the two of you help each other fulfill your dreams as equals. I am so so sorry for the women who are led to believe otherwise. YOU are the default human. Men are the secondary. Telling you otherwise is a plot. And I promise you that it is not Jesus who wants you to live like it is described here, losing yourself in the pursuit of pleasing some misogynist who just wants a robot to do the dirty work and shut up and don't complain, even be GRATEFUL (hence, be cheerful) and whom he can fuck whenever he wants. I am SO sorry. And I will pray to the God who did NOT want women to live like this, that you will wake up and see that this is the work of misogynists and patriarchy, NOT of Jesus.

I’m not exactly a homemaker. Or maybe not one at all. I work three days a week and stay home the other two days with my young son. I do a little of the home making though-the cleaning and tidying and laundry and meal prep (granted I don’t make bread from scratch or anything like that) and I found at the beginning of my life as a wife and mom I really resented it. It was drudgery; it wasn’t fun, it was taking me away from things I loved doing. But as I’ve shifted my mindsets I’ve found it less so. My vision now is about making the home a peaceful, happy place we are all glad to be in and enjoy. And it doesn’t feel as hard or awful anymore.

I make basically the same meal for everyone who comes to our house. Enchiladas. I live in Germany and most people here don't know what enchiladas are supposed to taste like. I also like that I can make it in advance and it's in the oven and not something I have to deal with when the guests have arrived. Chips, salsa and guacamole on the table as an appetizer. Enchiladas with a pre-made salad 🥗. Bam. Done. Maybe you should make your signature dish something from your husbands home country that you like and almost no one will have a taste to compare it to and that can take the pressure off of you I think. Anything you can prep ahead is very helpful. Also Ina Garten I think once said never apologize for your food and once she messed up a meal horribly and they ordered delivery pizza. Or you have frozen pizza in the freezer as a back up.

From what I have witnessed with several homemaker friends, & have experienced a time or two in my own journey, is that the #1 thing that leads to feelings of drudgery is when those who you are 'working for' do NOT appreciate what you are doing, are actively working against what you are doing or preventing you, etc....A husband who says what you are doing is not 'real work', children who are too young to help or take all you do for them for granted, friends who scoff at your labors, a MIL who constantly brings you job applications (this one I experienced myself!), a MIL that tells you you are a financial burden to her son (heard that one from a friend), a husband who lords his paycheck over you or treats you like a maid. We have to remember that WHO we work for is not husband, children, in laws, parents, friends. We work for the Lord. We are bringing glory to him through our labors, & by treating those around us with Charity (Love). So even if those around us do not seem grateful, The Lord sees (you in secret) your labors & will reward you openly. I have seen the most diligent, caring, motivated homemakers get burnt out by husbands who do not view what they do as a job ,or tell them because they don't earn a paycheck that what they are doing is unimportant. Our culture has driven this mindset. It never would have occurred to husbands 150 years ago to think that their wives were not doing their share. Read the Little House on the Prairie books. Pa Ingalls is grateful & fully depends on his wife. He is appreciative of her efforts to help him, he trusts her judgement, & praises her efforts repeatedly. Because it was EXPECTED that a woman's job was her home!

Very astute observations about 'loneliness' & 'idleness"..."Idle hands are the devil's workshop". Maybe being idle breeds discontent/loneliness/boredom. These then breed sins like sloth, gluttony, envy, etc...the devil's tools! Self Pity is a great tool of the devil, because it will convince you of all sorts of things that are not true about your life. Ask me how I know? Once I start down this path, everything in my life comes to a screeching halt & I find myself wasting time, mood-ing about, criticizing everything in my life, even napping during the day (which is very, very unlike me!) and then I start avoiding friends. This further cements the idea of loneliness being the issue. Lets face it. Who wants to hang out with someone that has no vision or zest for life? and this is the lie the devil tells you. So you avoid the one avenue that might be beneficial - fellowship. I had a counselor try to push me to get a pt job, to decrease my loneliness. But I could see that wasn't the answer & I have known a few homemakers that have gone down that avenue to 'fix what is wrong with them' & it ended up destroying their marriages, home life with their kids, & then ended up being stressed & having to pay others to do the things that used to be their responsibilities. I have actually witnessed several marriages devolve into affairs, abandonment, divorce, etc once a job was introduced as the 'cure' to the homemaker's 'boredom' & feelings of drudgery & being unappreciated.

Regarding being lonely - I agree with all you said but would like to add something our pastor says: "You are only as close as you want to be." If you find yourself wishing someone would talk to you or visit you, go talk to them and visit them (or invite them over). Or even invite them over to help with a project or ask them if there's something you can help them with. While relationships do need to go both ways, oftentimes someone needs to really step up initially to get the relationship started. Another good tip is if you're lonely go visit someone else who is lonely... a nursing home is a great place to start.
