My husband said I should quit my job and I was so relieved. But even though it made us happier, I was initially was insecure about not bringing in an income. We didn't have children. And his coworker insulted me (She was trying to sleep with my husband unsuccessfully but I didnt realize it at the time). Being a homemaker and learning the skills was so much fun! It felt like a whole world opened up. And God gives you courage! You go, Kelli! Its a blessing to watch this!
The norm used to be to quit work when you got married. I believe it was mostly about how it made the husband look bad that he couldn’t afford to have his wife stay home if she kept working.
It also removed the woman's need to focus on others, rather than her family. I also think that society was more focused on guarding a woman's honor/reputation. Women socialized with women & men with men. Which probably prevented many affairs, men acting untoward towards women, unwanted pregnancies, etc...I have found in our locale that the people who spend much of their social hours in mixed company have many issues in their marriage. There are a lot of affairs & divorces. My husband & I have a rule - he doesn't socialize with ANY women without me there & vice versa for him. I have had a few friends that went from being sahm moms to getting jobs because society (not their husbands) led them to believe that they weren't doing their 'fair share'. Several ended up working in coed environments - it led to affairs, lying, slacking on homemaking, and divorce. One was a dear friend & she ended up leading a double life, lying to everyone for about a year, and she ultimately abandoned her home & kids. the kids have had all sorts of trouble. And now she is stuck working a low level job at a grocery store, living in low income housing, with a man who signed away paternal rights to HIS many children. Whereas before she had a beautiful home, nice children, a husband who (had his flaws) wanted her home & provided everything, and a small farm. Not a trade I would willingly make!
You hit me right in the heart with this video. I'm of a similar age to you, but without a husband and am still helping/living with my parents. I was literally just pondering and praying on this today "how can I submit to my husband when I can't even submit to God's will for me in this season of life?" And then your video popped up and I took it as confirmation and encouragement from God that my thought process is on the right track. I've been growing in this, especially this last year, but I still know I have ways to go. Thank you so much for your encouragement
Hi! I love when God speaks to us and then confirms what He is speaking to us. He is so gracious! Sounds like you are stewarding this season wisely, God bless you and may He give you all the desires of your heart!
This was soooo good! I’m glad God led you to share this encouraging story because I’m a homemaker with 3 toddlers. I’ve been married for 5 years and sometimes I battle due to worldly thoughts and my perception or people’s perception of my life. And my husband and I have a business that we run from home. I’m the manager of his company but I have the freedom and flexibility to be home with my kids and I’m so thankful I used to pray for this. When we first got married I was working from home and that was challenging. But now I’m full-time homemaking and I love it 🥰 but I battle internally like what am I doing? I need my own career! This was so good! Please keep them coming. I am also subscribed to Lori Alexander’s channel and I love the things she shares.❤❤ Amen!
A short summary from my experience with God: Last year, the Lord basically kicked in my door, and told me to follow him, again, after years of atheism, and some occultism. A few weeks ago, the Lord said: Go to church on Sunday!!! I said ok, and went. Now He wants me to go to confession, wich is on Saturday. I'm a very stubborn person, so God has to use a lot of force to get me to obey him. I am working on getting better at that.
Seeing you wash tomatoes reminded me that sometimes I think about Matthew 23:26 when washing dishes. I'm glad you decided to be a homemaker so we get all this great content.
Introduced my daughter to Tangled for the first time this morning, love the comparison here! I felt the same when I reduced my hours after getting married, i was still working 25 hours a week but had so many doubts at the time. Never regretted it though.
Thank you for this encouragement. Yesterday was third separate time I have had a person not know or understand the term “homemaker” when asked “Where do you work?” I feel like an extinct dinosaur as an empty nested wife that is a homemaker without the validation of having children at home. My peers have all returned to the workplace. I live in the heart of Appalachia in the Bible Belt but still this term is becoming unknown and always questioned. I sometimes second guess my purpose in this “extinct role” and have to take those thoughts captive. 0:24 I thought of your similar experience you shared in a previous video about someone asking you and not even knowing or understanding the term “homemaker”. Thank you for this affirmation and encouragement.
I know what you mean ! Nearly every woman I know, or meet, is either working a public job, or is elderly & retired from public work . We know a lot of people in our community, & I only know of one woman who stays home w/ her baby . All the others have kids in daycare, the school systems, or if their kids are grown, the moms still work full time jobs outside the home . Even though we homeschool, I haven’t met many other homeschool moms, who are full time homemakers . Most of them work part time & juggle homeschooling or they work full time & their kids do homeschool from a computer (these are high school age , kids ). I like how you worded it , about the dinosaur age ! 😂 That really resonated w/ me! Not too long ago , I met a lady ( probably in her forties , who has high school age kids), & she runs a bed & breakfast . When I told her I am a homemaker , she looked stunned ! She never said a word ! Just looked at me, speechless ! 😂 I can chuckle about it now, but at the time , it kinda hurt my feelings . This is a sad society , that places such low value on taking care of the home & family . Even empty nesters , the role of the wife, is so powerful ! Having a clean , tidy, & welcoming home , good meals on the table , & able to be there as support for husband , is powerful . I’m thankful for Kelli’s channel & our special group of ladies , here !!! Hang in there . Walk in joy & peace & don’t let anyone rob you of your blessings ! Don’t expect people to understand …. More than likely they never will . ❤
Thank you so much for sharing this with us Kelli, I always look forward to listening and watching your videos while I’m doing paperwork and/or housework. We hope y’all are doing well!! - Mrs. Jenna Tolleson 🩵
Hi, your 6 baskets of tomatoes made me think of when God fed thousands and there were baskets left over. He is so generous and kind w us his daughters. I enjoyed hearing you share! So cool! I sometimes think, oh my goodness God, you started putting this together years ago...on a personal note, we married in 1994 and kids weren't part of God's plan for us, so I have felt the weight of the, you don't work and you don't have kid what do you do all day? Lately, I have an answer: I honor God in my role as a housewife and my husband's helpmate. I'm gaining confidence as I watch your videos and dig deeper. C
Yes, I am so thankful for the abundance of tomatoes even with the vines looking rough! And thank you for sharing your testimony, and that you also became a housewife and homemaker- so encouraging!
I have been out of work since I broke my ankle during an ice storm in January. I was getting frustrated because I applied to everything and everywhere that said they were taking applications. Finally went back to my crafting and opened a booth inside a shop. Some days I wonder why then I started listening to your RUclips video. Thank you
I work 2x a week but i think about leaving all the time . My child is in school so i have alot of time to get things done but the money does add up hopefully in the future i can stop working ❤
I wonder if you could do a video sharing your perspective on dividing or sharing household tasks with your spouse or not. I feel like this has become a big topic in the world and I’m seeing it trickle into the church where even full time homemakers have insisted upon evenly split work. Would be curious to hear your perspective.
Thank you so much for sharing this encouraging video. I an a stay at home wife and homeschooling mother of four boys. I live in the UK where both these things are rare, even within the church. I admit that I am still learning how to take care of the home and struggle with keeping a clean and tidy house, I am also still learning how to source, cook and feed my husband and boys nutritious food. It's a long learning curve and your videos have been so helpful for this. It is interesting that you were canning in this video as I have been feeling drawn to learn how to can. How did you learn? Do you have any books you can recommend? Thank you :)
Thank you again for speaking right through my heart and life, I needed this right now as I’m in the crossroads of so many decisions in my life. You’re always a blessing! Love from Liza in California🌞💕
