🏴 Ledge Route | Ben Nevis | Scrambling | Scotland
Ledge route on Ben Nevis picks an easy line through the crags and up on to Carn Dearg. There are some variations to the route, this one avoids the approach into No. 5 gully and the tricky sloping slabs which were covered in ice when we passed them.

We'd done the Zig Zags earlier in the day. Feeling good we decided to repack and head up Am Bodich which is at the start of finish of the Aonach Eagach depending on which way you choose to do it. We chose not to do the ridge but we'll be back soon! Watch this space! :-) Park at the small parking area on the north side of the A82 about three hundred metres west of the solitary house at Allt-na-r...

You may have noticed, and some have asked, that we’ve not been out as much as we used to be. The truth is we’ve had a bit of a time of it! However, we believe we really have turned a corner, together! I’ve done a new video and edited slightly differently from our normal offering. I let MrsO see it before uploading and she thinks, like me, that even the smallest amount of awareness of the menopa...
🏴 Ben Starav | Bivvy | Cloud Inversion | | Ridges | Waterfalls | Scotland

This turned into an outstanding adventure, waterfalls, cloud inversions ridges and more. Really enjoyed this one. Ben Starav is an imposing mountain which rears up steeply from the head of Loch Etive. Higher up it has some fine ridges and is a great viewpoint. Ben Starav is a tough ascent by any standards, but the route can be extended by the very fit. You could optionally include Beinn nan Aig...

Maol Chean-dearg, named bald red head on account of its red sandstone boulder summit and lower band of white quartzite, is a popular Munro. The ascent involves a pleasant walk in along the Fionn abhainn with good views of the prow of Meall nan Ceapairean on the way. The section of scree is steep but short and the route above this presents no difficulties. There are great views from the summit, ...

The following morning we walked around the loch to the bottom of Slioch and down towards Loch Maree then back to the carpark. A very nice loop in some remote wilderness. In all we walked around 20 miles. Highly recomme...

Beinn Eighe (Spidean Coire nan Clach) Beinn Eighe is the bulkiest of the trinity of great Torridon peaks. The western half of its ridge contains both of its two Munros. This section of the ridge makes a fine traverse with magnificent views; it may involve less scrambling than Beinn Alligin or Liathach, but compensation comes when Coire Mhic Fhearchair is reached during the descent; this is the ...

That was a point and press of the phone. What a cracking picture… no skill, just luck! 😀🙏
In the summer of 76 I walked to Bessegen ... not many paths back then! Great adventure and thanks for the reminder!
That was our first trip to Norway, what a fantastic place for people like us. 😀🙏
Cool video guys, gives a really good feel for the climb. Hope to be doing it later this year so that really helped.
Hey, 👋 thank you. Glad to hear it’s been helpful. It’s a cracking day out as you’ll find out. 😊🙏
Is the path distinct?
Between the CIC hut and the start of the ridge it’s a little bit of an effort to find but not to bad. Obviously the ridge is fine. You need to be careful coming off the Ben if the clouds down though.
Assynt is just an amazing place. I can’t wait to get back for some more adventures in the near future.cheers guys👍🏼
Thanks for watching. Yeah, it’s a fans place to be in the right conditions. Proper adventure playground. 😀🙏
두분의 사랑스런 분위기와 산과 들 자전거 모든 것 들이 아릅답고 최고입니다.
The Hank you so much. Lovely words. 😊🙏
Slept in that same room circa 1984, it was the old waiting room, the roof leaked. But it was better than putting up a wet tent.
Haha certainly warmer these days Kevin. 😊👌
Can I ask what boots is David wearing? Amazing route up Ben Nevis and didn’t know about this one until I saw your video, which is amazing. Great cinematography 👏🏼👏🏼
Hey Andy, thank you for watching. They are the Salewa Crow GTX Mountaineering, I think lol. 😊👍
@ they look a decent pair of boots that are ok on the flat sections approaching Ben Nevis and obviously great on the scrambling sections. Definitely a route I’d like to try. I’ve done the tourist route twice, once for the National 3 Peaks but would like something a bit more challenging and interesting. Definitely one to look at New to your channel and now subscribed. The west coast of Scotland is one on my favourite places ever ❤️🏴
I've lost count how many times I've been up to the C.I.C hut with the dogs breath taking .Great video
Hi Ross, thank you. If Carlsberg done dog walks!! 😁👍
super beau j'adore vos film merci
You are very welcome. Thank you for following our wee trips. 😁🙏🎄🎅
Fabulous filming, Ben Starav has an exceptional position. Alas I climbed it in constant rain from the bottom to the top and back down again, the wettest I've ever been on a hill and never saw a single view, what a waste! This makes up for it. What was the descent route via the narrow arete?
Hi Rod, thank you. Nice to hear you enjoyed it. We’ve been up this one a few times and this is also our first time with a view. 😁👍 I think we’ve put a link to the route description in the information.
Incredible video👌😍 loved it.
Hi Val, Glad you liked it!! Thank you so much. 😁👍
It always gives me the fear. What would happen if the mist came down, it started to snow/rain heavily or the dins got high when you were in these areas?
Hi Rab, yeah you never know with Scottish weather but a little planning ahead does the trick normally. For this route it’s quite linear so it’s either up or down. This tricky part is actually the top, getting off in poor conditions may be an issue but if you can navigate it’s not really a major problem. Having confidence in your skills and risk management abilities will certainty address that fear. That’s the way we see it anyway. Thanks for watching and messaging. 😁🙏 D&L 😁👍
@@ontheadventuretrails-scotl9389 Thanks for the response. It looks amazing and I take my hat off to you both for doing it. I am still new to hill walking and could only dream of doing something this difficult at the moment.
Some things look more different than they actually are. I’m sure you get there as your confidence grows. All the best. 👍
@@ontheadventuretrails-scotl9389 Thank you and I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Do you ever post the routes that you do.. Thanks
Hi Colin, not normally unless we’ve used someone’s route. Then we’ll post a link. I don’t normally record the routes. 👍
Fantastic! You two must be super fit, I’d love to do that.
Thank you. I wouldn’t say super fit, especially at the moment! 😁😂
Très belle vidéo 😊 , paysages magnifiques , 👏👏👏 bravo à tout les deux pour ce grand raid 😊
Thank you. 🙏 😊😅
This looks like such good fun! Especially on a clear frosty day.
Thank you for watching. We actually had a superb day on this one. 😊👍
I spent most of my 20's slogging up Glen Derry, the grindingest 6 miles you could ever walk. Eventually, lobotomies allowed us to enjoy it.
Haha yeah it’s a bit of mission getting to the good stuff. 😁👍
Bravo pour cette belle vidéo , les très beaux paysages Et ce grand raid en fat bike 😊
Hi Jean, thank you very much for watching. 😊🙏
Really enjoyed these videos from Norway - thanks 😊
Thanks Stevie. That trip was outstanding. Heading to northern Sweden next year. 👍😊
Another speed marching video.
😂😂👍👍
Ueli Steck. "If i do a mistake. I die." Personal preference, on some parts of that route I would say a rope, helmet and a walking axe might not go amiss (crampons if it's snowing and icy). That's a route where other lives been claimed and not for the 1st or last time - it's a case of 8000/8000 steps need to be perfect.
Hi Alan, thanks for watching. 👍
Awesome video! Any tips on the route finding up there, are there any good manual type things around?
Hi.. thank you. 😊👍 There’s reports on the Walkhighlands website. Those will help you with route finding.
A beautiful film,another great watch
… and John a very nice comment to read. Thank you sir! 🙏 (sincerely)
Hi great video. I'm guessing this wasn't your first time entering this path. There are no moments of hesitation as to where to go next 😀
Haha there were a few, just not on show in the video. Thank you for watching. 😁🙏
Beautifully filmed. The music definitely added to the ascent. An excellent video.
Hi Charles, Thank you very much! 😊🙏👍
How many calories do you need to complete this kind of hike? Very well done.
Ha! One or two that’s for sure. I could do with getting rid of a little excess timber! 😊👍
Stunning footage, so much work goes into that I'm sure. Did the CMD arete 6 years back but doubt I'd have the nerve (or the route finding skill) for that. Great work.
Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I’m sure it’s within your capabilities. 😊👍
Great video. Been toying with Norway or Sweden next year. This is definitely a contender! Beautiful. Thank you for sharing, David
Glad you enjoyed it David. Hopefully you seen the other two parts. Mate, you’ll not regret it. Absolutely wonderful place and country, and btw, yes it’s not cheap whilst there but we in the UK aren’t a million miles away in terms of cost. Our Sweden 🇸🇪 plan is all but prepared for next year. Still fighting the urge to go back to Norway 🇳🇴 though. Thanks. D&L
Hi guys great video as always, can I ask you where you turned wrong way is there an actual track or just grass. Can I also ask did you start at Glen Feshie and finish at Glen tromsie ?? Keep the video,s coming there brill and a big help to beginners like myself.😊
Hi Drew, thank you. We started and finished around here: NN 77944 99654 We turned right instead of left around here: NN 81220 84774 It was a track that does show on the map. It wasn’t where we meant to go though. A good adventure all the same, and couple of learning points. 😊👍
@ thank you , didn’t realise that some parts were not covered with way markers and looking at OS land ranger map on area it does not show any linking path between the two glens so will have watch out for this using data you have given me. Thanks for your help guys
I think that was your best yet,and that’s saying something! Absolutely brilliant.
Hey!👋 thank you, means a lot! 😊🙏 That one felt like a proper adventure. Thanks for messaging. 😊👍
Hi D&L, I'm a bit late to this one but enjoyed the trip and stunning filming as usual. I can see the ropes coming out soon if you two keep going with this scrabbling malarky 👍👏👏👏 Take care. Cheers
Hi Charlie, thank you buddy. We’ve already done a wee course so yes, you’ll see a little more action soon. 😂😂 All the best for now…
@@ontheadventuretrails-scotl9389 Superb, stay safe and enjoy.....
Thrilling adventure! 🏔 The Ledge Route on Ben Nevis looks incredible. Thank you friend for sharing such stunning views and an epic scramble! We join your channel! Big like 👍
Thanks so much and welcome onboard! It’s a lovely route when you get the good conditions. 😊👍
Great video David. Really enjoyed it. Well done you guys. Very best wishes 🙏🏻 Dave
Glad you enjoyed it Dave. It was another good day oooot on the Ben. 😄👍
@@ontheadventuretrails-scotl9389 absolutely 🏴🏔️👌🏻
Beautifully captured. The route I wanted to take up Ben Nevis as a kid before I lost my nerve, nice to get to see it on this quality video. Well done
Thank you very much! You should really give it a go. It’s not that bad. I’m sure, well within your capabilities. 😊👍
OMG an amazing video. Did CMD arete 6 yrs ago, just wish I was bave enough to to this route 😁
Hi Martyn, 😄 thank you! Theres only one very short slightly tricky bit, give it a go.
A classic route up the North Face of the Ben.. Superb drone shots. Thanks for sharing as always. 👌
Hi Richard, thank you. Nice to hear you’ve enjoyed it. 😊🙏
Great video and showed me what I missed when I did it many years ago. Clagged in all the way from the car park! The North face is an intimidating place but still stunning. The walk up to the but is good in winter too. Thanks Dave
Thanks Dave. Yeah even the walk in alone is nice. You’re right though an intimidating place on the wrong day! 😊👍
Wow that looked brilliant, hats off to the both of you 👍 Think I would get lost trying to get up that 😂 but it looked fun..👍 It's always good to know there is an easy path back down, I wouldn't like trying to come back down that. Looking forward to your next adventure 😍
Glad you enjoyed it. Getting to the start is the tough part. Fantastic day out though. Thank you for watching. 😊👍
Fantastic film once again . Good effort from both of you 😊
Thanks a lot 😊 Glad you enjoyed watching. 😊👍
Did you say it was a crow? It was very much a raven. Great walk. I've done Carn Mor Dearg arete route which you showed us nicely, a couple of times about 30 years ago, but never your route.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. 😊👍
Wonderful video. Fantastic to see familiar places again that we visited as we cycled the Hebridean Way a couple of years ago, in the opposite direction, although in not so good weather! Thank you so much!
Hi Ken, thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed it. Can’t ever get enough of the outer Hebs. 😊👍
Fantastic video guys , actually quite an emotional video. Sat and watched it with my good Lady who also has things going on due to menopause stuff. Beautiful soundtrack and obviously the footage. Ye just great 👍 👌 Good luck to Lisa on the journey and for getting someone who understands first and is then in a position to help ❤
Hi Steve, thanks, that was a really nice message to read. Yeah the M’s put everyone affected through a bit of a tough time. The key is talking and honesty…
Another one of your videos that has that wee feel good factor as you watch it. Sat and watched it last night with my Good Lady and she is in awe of your Lisa for making this look so easy . Great wee vid again 👍 👏
Brilliant when people say how it makes them feel. Lisa’s really gripped it and has found a new love for pushing things a little more. She’s certainly growing. 😊👍

Another cracking video D and L.Drone shots were spot on😃👏👏 Would like to attempt it sometime.after I get the round done.Is it straightforward enough to find the start after the CIC Hut?😃
Hi Andy, thank you. 😊🙏 Yeah the route is actually not too bad to find from the CIC. You just need to stick to the right of the watercourse. You’ll see the path. 👍👍
