The True Forefather Of Heavy Guitar Music
After having discussed multiple guitar players that I think are underrated, I found out that I hadn't made an episode about one of the first people I put on my list to feature in an episode: Leslie West! So this one feels long overdue for me. The man, the mountain, the legend!

Will The JHS Haunting Mids Spark What's Missing From My Suhr Badger 35?
Просмотров 12814 дней назад
THIS VIDEO WAS RECORDED IN OCTOBER 2023, BUT I AM RELEASING IT FROM THE ARCHIVES JUST NOW. After testing and comparing the Suhr Badger 35 to my two favorite amps in a recent video, I found it lacked some sparkling mids for my taste. Yet, there was plenty I did like about the amp. While finding a way to solve this 'issue', I remembered a pedal JHS makes, called the Haunting Mids. I wanted to try...

Can The Suhr Badger 35 Bridge The Gap Between My Marshall And Dr. Z?

For the past year I've been using my Marshall 1987x mainly for humbuckers and my Dr. Z Z-Wreck Jr. for everything else, which made me look for an amp that could bridge the gap a bit. No mystery. Frequency peaks. A graphic eq will do it - try a 400hz boost. Don’t be scared ! Or a wah set to the position which works. Who cares what amp he’s using ? That’s not the secret. Never was. Guitarists are obsessive about amps. Truth is, overdrive is overdrive. I can get that sound using 8” Celestion PA speakers and a Fosi V3 amplifier ! The intonation is out on your G string, so when tuned its fine on open fret but as you use different parts of string it pronounces how out it is, this is coupled with the G string i assume being a little old? Fantastic comparison. Both sound great and I still don't know which one I'd prefer to own! The straight amp drive tones sound pretty similar, but the JTM has little more juiciness and harmonic overtones primarily in the lower frequencies. For me, comparing the edge of breakup tones, with or without the Archer, the JTM would be more of what I'd be able to use more...I like my pedals. Overall, the JTM has more grunt, where the Vintage has more squawk...different Marshall flavors.

    • @StevenAnthonyGuitar

@@markn4526 for pedals it's the Studio JTM all the way. I actually went with a Studio JTM combo, which is a great all purpose grab and go amp. The Studio Vintage is a great rock and roll amp, but it mainly does that one thing very well.

The cab would have a closed back, which I think I'd prefer to get more thump, but the combo is an attractive solution as you've said. I do wonder why Marshall chose to use Creambacks for the JTM and Vintage Studio Series. You'd think they would have opted for Greenbacks.

The JJ 12AX7 which is labeled as Groove Tube sound ok but out of the 4 Stock tube in my DRRI two were highly microphonic and one was faulty... If you buy reissue tubes just get the Tung-Sols and try to find a seller that selects V1 tubes for a few bucks extra. The quality control of the tubes produced these days is just not existent. What amp head would you recomend for under 2000 if i want to stop using as many pedals? That means getting the drive from the amp even at small gigs volume, because in some bars i dont think i would be able to even get a lot of drive from the studio vintage, for context, i now have a fender custom 68 pro reverb, i use it with pedals as its a clean platform, but i have found that a lot of the music i play has at least classic crunch, and that crunch is always nicer if it comes from a good amp, thanks

@@ggar9623 the Studio Vintage would do the trick, although I think the 1987x sounds better, but is less practical. I've been using both and you can do everything with the guitar's volume.

I picked up one of these on Reverb for the price of a Chinese clone. Nothing against Chinese clones though, it's going in between the Orange Burst and Pure Sky by Caline. I needed something that could do a DS-1 style classic rock distortion that wasn't a DS-1. I recently switched to a ampless digital modelling rig with an HX Stomp and I'm eliminating all the fizzy analog pedals from my board. My TS9-DX Turbo Tubescreamer may be next get the boot and I have a really good Bad Monkey clone that's ready to take it's place.

@@StevenAnthonyGuitar I've been messing around with it for a couple of hours now and decided it sounds good towards the end of my chain of dirt pedals. I have trouble making decisions so I have like 6 drives, a Big Muff and a compressor at the front. It has a nice amp-like breakup at low gain and a rumbly compression. It works well to boost into it with a KoT-style drive for more saturation then clean boost and EQ shape afterwards with a Klone or a transparent drive. I have an old solid state Fender Princeton that I usually plug into the effects return via a standalone modeller with a deluxe reverb model. I ran the pedal into the front end and that amp sounded better than it ever has. It never sounded bad, it was just a clean fender sound but kind of flat. This gives it dimension.

Amps like the Mesa Boogie TC 50 watt head run in a 2 X12 cab can cover just about any tone I can think of. The FX can be accessed through the footswitch, the list goes on. The price for the stack under 4,000. - Some if not most of the "Boutique amplifiers. I can not say the same for. I like RD Z. I can not afford 10 different amps. Do you think people can? I doubt it.
