Maybe The Bad Cat Hot Cat Is The Amp I've Been Looking For...

I've been trying different amp heads for more than a year, without finding the right one to go with my Marshall 1987X and Dr. Z Z-Wreck Jr. Today's contender is the Bad Cat Hot Cat! This video was shot before the Dr. Z Nova video, which I still own. I returned the Bad Cat. It was great, but had some issues and I went with a different Marshall, which you'll see in a later video. Should Morgan Amplification Resurrect This Amp?

Do You Even Need More Than One Humbucker Guitar?

You could play on my rig but you wouldn't sound like me..A lot of what you refer to as tone, comes from the players hands..I firmly believe that..But trying (and buying) rigs to get different artist's 'sound' makes equipment manufacturers a lot of money, so they're just fine with buyers believing that .Same thing for the artist's..Well hell yeah, I'll endorse that!! Some of these guys make just as much, if not more than their music releases and touring, just by adding their signature to instruments, pedals, amps, etc..

@@wesbresee I think one should never try to sound like someone else, but in search of what makes your favorite tones so good, you can find your own sound. If Billy Gibbons sounded the same through every amp, he could've just as well play a Line 6 Spider.

Also the fact that he uses TUBE AMPS,,, NOT SOLID STATE!!! Well at least he always did in the past, per his words in an interview years ago,,, since tube amps are few and far between due to solid state,,he might be using technology to make it more TUBY SOUNDING,,, I've read a lot of his interviews over the years and he always said tube amps sounds the best,,, also his choice of light strings. And the main reason he sounds like that,,, is because he's the GREAT REVEREND WILLY G.❤ Check out how they recorded ELIMINATOR,,,,AMP CABINS,,, DIFFERENT AMPS STACKED ON TOP,, SHAPED INTO A T-PEE WITH A MIC IN THE CENTER... PER ANOTHER INTERVIEW FROM THE BAND YEARS AGO... A LOT OF PEOPLE THINK THAT "DRUM" BEAT AT THE BEGINNING OF SLEEPING BAG,,,IS ACTUALLY A DRUM SOUND,,, it's not,per gibbons they went out to a car scrap yard,, took one of those sampling KEYBOARDS THAT WAS HOT DURING THAT PERIOD,,, put it inside the trunk of an old Cadillac,,, and slammed the trunk!!!! That's what you hear,, is a Cadillac trunk slamming,,, not a bass drum!!! Just like they used real VELCRO TO MAKE THE SOUND IN VELCRO FLY,,,,,, AND ON ELIMINATOR'S THUG,,,, A SLIDE WHISTLE AT THE BEGINNING,,, HE STATED HE ALMOST PASSED OUT BLOWING IT WHEN THEY RECORDED THAT SONG!! HERE'S ANOTHER TID BIT FOR THOSE THAT DON'T KNOW,,, back when they recorded deguello,,, he (billy) had watched a phil Donahue show, and they used a device to alter a guest's voice,,, he begged his tech to find out what they used and he did,, and billy used it on ,heavan hell or Houston.. and a couple others as well..... How do i know all this,,, i remember a lot of the articles in guitar world magazine where he was interviewed a lot!! It sticks with me........... They experimented a lot back in those days,,, and probably still do!! It's THAT ZZ SOUND,,, THAT'S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THEM!!

I must be a bit of a contrarian, because all my Gibson (or "Gibson-ish") guitars have single coil pickups in them now, and my only guitars with humbuckers (or a humbucker) are Teles or Strats. Usually its just the bridge pickup, but I have at least one Tele and one Strat set up with two humbuckers (neck & bridge), and I like them both. You're right - it varies from one guitar to another. And setup, wiring, etc. - it all effects the tone. I even have a 335-type guitar that I ended up putting single coil pickups into because it just didn't sound right to my ears with humbuckers. But one of those humbuckers I pulled out went into a Strat (at the bridge position) and it sounds good in that guitar! Oh, I just remembered - I do have a non-Gibson "Explorer" with two humbuckers that I like. But that guitar never felt comfortable for my right arm, so I ended up cutting off part of the upper pointy part of the body so it would be more comfortable to play! My philosophy is - unless its totally perfect, never hesitate to try different mods. Unless maybe its some insanely valuable vintage instrument. Even then, sometimes I'll change things if I think I will like it better. I think all three of your guitars sounded good, but you're usually going for a different sound & tone that I am. I guess that's what makes the world go round.

If you look for the authentic sound, take the 1987x, even better the 1959HW in my opinion, if you look for lower output level and an fx-loop, but less of the real thing "magic", take the SV-20. I personally rather preferred the real thing.

@@StevenAnthonyGuitar Again, speed =/= shred. A player who is _never_ able to utilise a burst of speed sounds leaden and one-dimensional. 99.9% of players, in any genre, who are any good are able to use speed when the music calls for it - as most music does on occasion, even if only as a flourish lasting half a bar. The one thing that everyone who says they aren't worried about speed has in common is a glaring problem with their technique that literally prevents them from playing fast. There is a reason why the advice is overwhelming to hold the pick a certain way. Not doing so is just a bad habit that should be un-learned. Get used to holding the pick in a more orthodox manner and playing from the wrist and speed is actually pretty easy. You just have an ingrained bad habit.
