My first exposure to Mountain was buying their Flowers of Evil album just out of curiosity. Favorite from that one: "Dreams of Milk and Honey" and the following jam recorded at the Fillmore East. West's phrasing and tone are so tasty!
one of my favorite solos ever was from theme for an imaginary western,, MOUNTAIN CLIMBING studio version'---- beautifully composed pentatonic TASTEFUL phrasing ques/ans. each phrase introducing the next ending it with THE cherry on top harmonic whistle WHAT A SUPERB conclusion. --- can't beat it. IT JUST TALKS TO ME.
Martin Barre from Jethro Tull said he got a Les Paul Junior for the album Aqualung because he was inspired by the tone of Leslie West P90 pickups guitar.
Great video! Leslie West is an awesome player. In the UK in about 1975 we had a TV programme at 12 noon on Sundays, "Weekend World" and I loved the theme music. I used to run into the living room and turn the volume way up and go nuts. Well I was 7 or 8 I guess. Many, many years later I found out that all that time I had been rocking out to "Nantucket Sleighride" and had to have that Mountain record. Thanks for motivating me to hear more by him.
@@johnnevin6663 check out the live version of Nantucket Sleighride from their Twin Peaks album. I think that version is awesome, but you have to like long jams 😉
@@StevenAnthonyGuitar Thanks Steven, I will get that live record soon. I love long jams. Ever hear the 9-minute version of Radar Love from Golden Earring? Another underrated band.
@@StevenAnthonyGuitar One of the Netherlands' best exports, Golden Earring, and a great live act. I wonder which other guitar music you will cover and I'll be watching with interest!
@@StevenAnthonyGuitar Yes indeed 😉 Btw, great presentation. Over 10 years ago I watched a live performance of mountain from like 1970 and West was riffing out and soloing in between songs and thats when I said, This is where it all began, The precursor of all the soon to be stadium rock gods that would following through out the 1970s and early 80s.
@@johnsmith-ug5tp I wish I could've been there during the heyday of rock and roll. It's become so much of a niche now in comparison that even I feel like a dinosaur at 34.
@@StevenAnthonyGuitar A young dinosaur 😉 At least you appreciate actual music and play it. I just missed it, I was still too young to go to concerts in the 70's. In 79 my brother or sister had to go with me. ha By then, alot of 70s bands were burnt out and breaking up. However, I am glad even as a kid I was able to grow up listening to it at the time.
I grew up listening to nantucket sleighride album. Love mountain.
💯
Saw them in Jacksonville perhaps 1970 71. First time I saw the audience rush the stage.
@@jeffreymars8062 must've been an awesome experience!
Leslie West was definitely one of the fathers of heavy metal music.
@@hapax87 for sure. Still a lot that people can learn from what he did back then.
Great series and a great guitarist.

Came out of the same Long Island scene as Vanilla Fudge. Appice has said he was the best musician but they were the better band. Fair.
@@blueharland Appice has always mostly been a big fan of himself 😜
