Great P90 guitar shootout, Steve! I can't help myself but prefer the SG sonically, even after the LP shimming. It just seems to have an extra r'n'r midrange kick in it and an all-rounder as you say. But I can clearly understand why you'd prefer the LP. That final solo duel was just 👍 put a smile on my face. Keep on rocking!
@@alanst.4417 thanks! I might've prefered the SG if I'd had it as long as the Les Paul. Maybe I prefered that one because it felt more familiar by that point, although the SG was great as well.
i have a single pickup guitar (novo solus) and i found detuning it to c# and putting ernie ball mammoths on it allowed it to be a more generalist guitar that could have good rhythm tone and lead tone. in standard with 10s it was extremely harsh to my ears.
@@StevenAnthonyGuitar no, though that did work for some good rhythm sounds on the bridge pickup of a telecaster i used to play, this pickup (some high output fralin) required more. i still have tone down to 3 or so for rhythm parts and turn it up higher for leads. in fact pretty much the whole tone knob spectrum sounds good for different sounds with detune/big strings

Seems like all the epiphones made recently are sounding pretty good , someone who is new to guitar would surely be happy with any of the models
@@CalloftheWreckingBall I think anyone could be happy with the new Epiphones.
There's just something special about single pickup guitars. For me, it makes me get out of my own way and just play.
I totally agree!
Go for the most inspiring. Go for the one that plays the best. Fix anything else with a good EQ
@@northernmonkey8652 I did! Because despite of what I said in this video, I sold two of the three 😜

@@alanturingandthetapes5575 didn't it help to just roll down the tone a bit?

I just used washers to lift the dogear on my LP junior.
@@northernmonkey8652 the shim worked and looked great too 😉👌
@@StevenAnthonyGuitar yeah it probably looks better than mine 😆
