This lift is situated in a 3 floor storage warehouse. It was installed upon construction of the facility in 1962. The lift was built by Swiss lift company Schlieren, who were at the forefront of lift innovation in Europe back in the day.
This lift features Schlieren's special and now very rare levlling system using two separate motors and a magnetic clutch. It results in an extremely slow levelling speed, which makes very precise levelling possible. The system was designed for large freight lifts.
Another speciality of this type of drive system ist that the rotor windings of the main motor are split. Extra resistor...

    Wow! Amazing motor! That is VERY big, but older Otis models had bigger machines, but its not to say that this is not big. This is actually the first time I saw how much current they draw… 51 amps, 40kw, amazing! I don't know why I didn't expect it because it is pulling 28 people when it is full or empty, but seeing it with my own eyes is amazing.

      Indeed, this is a pretty hefty machine. Upon start it even draws a lot more for a short period of time. Funny enough, this lift was made by Otis. Originally it had a 131HT or 139HT machine, but that's not the very big one.

    Quite a geared traction machine 2:1 roped, the compensating sheave on the cab is huge! While I did not see a defector sheave, in the hoist way I presume there is one on the floor of the machine room. The design is very interesting using a chain for the leveling motor and a flat belt for the main traction motor. Differs from Otis's micro drive/tail twister which had the motor shafts bolted.

    • @TheLiftDragon
      @TheLiftDragon 4 дня назад

      Indeed, the idea behind Otis' old system with the tail twister is a similar approach to the problem! Both the sheaves on the cab and the CW are huge here. No deflector sheave needed.

    Geniales Teil. Ist in dem, von der Kette angetriebenen Teil, eine Kupplung versteckt? Warum hat die Anlage eigentlich zwei Schachtkopierungen. Das typische Schlieren-Kopierwerk (das Stahl auch verwendet hat), und das kleine Teil mit dem Stellmotor? Kriegst du beim Berühren des Relais keinen Stromstoß ab?

    • @TheLiftDragon
      @TheLiftDragon 5 дней назад

      Dankesehr! Die Anlage hier hat nur ein Kopierwerk, das ist das von dir erkannte Schlieren-Kopierwerk. Das Rad dient zur Bestimmung der Etage an sich, die Abschaltung erfolgt dann effektiv durch die Rollenschalter im Schacht. Die Apparatur mit dem Stellmotor im Relaisgestell ist der Fahrprogrammgeber. Dieser dreht sich pro Fahrtzyklus immer genau einmal und ist dafür zuständig, dass die Anfahrstufen geschaltet werden. Der Hauptmotor hat aufgetrente Rotorwicklungen, welche in das Relaisgestell geführt werden. Dort befinden sich oben an der Rückseite Leistungswiderstände in 3 seriellen Gruppen. Angefahren wird mit dem maximalen Widerstand, dann werden in 3 Stufen die Widerstandsgruppen überbrückt bis zum Kurzschluss des Läufers (letztes Schütz zieht, die anderen 2 fallen ab). Dann hat man am Ende den Zustand eines normalen Asynchronmotors. Zum Thema Kupplung: die Anlage hat auf der Winde zwei Magnete. Der untere ist der Bermslüftmagnet wie bei allen Anlagen, der obere kuppelt das Kettenrad ein. Die Sequenz beim Anhalten ist wie folgt: 1. Feineinstellmotor starten, Kettenrad kommt auf Drehzahl. 2. Hauptmotor aus, mechanische Bremse greift zu und bremst den Aufzug ab 3. Kupplungsmagnet zieht an und kuppelt das Kettenrad ein 4. mechanische Bremse öffnet wieder Jetzt läuft die Einstellfahrt. 5. Gleichzeitig Kupplungsmagnet aus, Bremsmagnet aus, Feineinstellmotor aus. Bei 4:47 sieht man diese Sequenz eigentlich ganz gut, wenn man sich auf die Bewegungen der einzelnen Teile achtet. Und noch wegen den Relais: Nein, wo ich die Relais jeweils anfasse, ist keine Spannung drauf. Der Anker ist geerdet. Selbst wenn, die Steuerspannung bei Schlieren wäre 36VDC. Aber versteht sich natürlich von selbst, dass Relais nur zu drücken sind, wenn man weiss was man tut und die Funktionen der Anlage kennt.

      @liftboy92 5 дней назад

      @@TheLiftDragon Vielen Dank für die ausführliche Antwort. Das mit dem Stellmotor leuchtet natürlich ein. Mich hat das nur kurz an die Schachtkopierung von Bauer erinnert. Diese hatten einen Stellmotor, der durch Schachtfahnen jeweils immer einen Schritt weiter geschalten hat. Das Kopierwerk, das Schlieren verwendet, hat die deutsche Firma R.Stahl auch genutzt - hier jedoch auch zum Einleiten der Langsamfahrt. Das Abstellen ging meist über Schaltnocken auf der Kopierwerkskette.

      @@liftboy92 Ein solches motorisiertes Kopierwerk, genannt Motorsteuerapparat, gab es bei Schlieren für die höheren Anlagen auch. Eine sehr faszinierende Konstruktion, sehr clever gelöst und komplett berührungslos mit Magnetschaltern im Schacht. Hier ist ein Video der meines Wissens letzten Anlage davon, welche jetzt leider auch umgebaut wurde: ruclips.net/video/0RX1wSnVKQ0/видео.html Die Einleitung der Langsamfahrt durch Rollen- oder Magnetschalter im Schacht hat Schlieren nur bei Warenliften so gelöst. Bei kleineren Anlagen war auch diese im rotierenden Kopierwerk mit integriert.

    Probably that elevator is so good and reliable to the point that it’s too good to replace with anything newer and anything that’s newer may also be more expensive to maintain and not as reliable! :)

    • @TheLiftDragon
      @TheLiftDragon 5 дней назад

      This thing sure is still running like a charm and I hope it will stay like that. One has to keep in mind though that all the other lifts in this complex (2x group of 3, 2 single passenger, another freight but hydro) have all been modded already. However, I think that chance of this one still staying is pretty high because of the giant hoist machine - that would cost a fortune to replace.

    • @Techno-Universal
      @Techno-Universal 5 дней назад

      @@TheLiftDragon Yup while a new lift that has the same speed and weight specs would be insanely expensive and cost a fortune to maintain because of it being under engineered and designed with a limited lifespan of only 5-20 years! However a company like Schindler could currently do something that could last up to 30 years! We also now luckily have better technologies for manufacturing so if any custom parts fail then they could be custom reproduced using 3D printing or laser machining for a reasonable price as long as they have the original design diagrams and schematics for those parts! :)

    • @TheLiftDragon
      @TheLiftDragon 5 дней назад

      @@Techno-Universal If something would be done to this lift here, it would most likely be a mod with new controller, added inner doors and maybe an engine replacement. Yet I hope it doesn't happen. Maintenance here is done by Schindler, as is for most Schindler lifts in Switzerland. Also 3D printing is not a solution to all problems. Many of the parts needed for a lift have very specific structural requirements as they are load-bearing. 3D printing, depending on the method used, may produce parts that cannot handle stress equally well in each axis, this is a very complicated topic. The surface quality of 3D printed parts is a lot worse than that of machined parts. Forging can increase the strength of parts a lot, hence crucial parts like this drive shaft are best forged first, then turned on a lathe. It even must be periodically checked for micro cracks in oder for the lift to stay safe to operate. I have worked in CNC machining for years and there are reasons as to why all that is used on a lift is still made that way.

    • @Techno-Universal
      @Techno-Universal 5 дней назад

      @@TheLiftDragon Yeah if the logic fails in that case they could probably just replace it with something like a 7700 series logic which is Schindler’s modern equivalent of their Miconic logic and that would probably also include a VF drive being installed though in that configuration it could still keep the lift running just as well or better than what it originally was! :)

    • @TheLiftDragon
      @TheLiftDragon 5 дней назад

      @@Techno-Universal There is no the "7700 logic". That sounds like another term invented by a certain individual who has no clue about what Schindler really does. There are different types of Schindler Miconic controllers, high-rise applications would use a CO-TX. The controller for standard applications would be the CO-MX. CO-BX would be the motor room equivalent of the Bionic but we don't want that because it's the worst controller Schindler has ever made. Anyways, we wouldn't have any of that today as the new scalable controller SC1 can be used for everything. But I digress, none of that matters. If this lift were to be modded by Schindler, a generic BP408 controller in combination with a ZAdyn drive would most likely be the combination of choice. It is in general one of the best controllers out there and has all the features you would ever want. In case you don't know what controller I'm talking about - here's a good example of what it can do if set up properly: ruclips.net/video/QVQ5EYR5J4I/видео.html

    Überkompliziert gelöst. Es funktioniert zwar aber die Geräuschentwicklung ist furchtbar. Ich kenne es von Haushahn Lastenaufzügen die noch mit 2 Geschwindigkeiten liefen, dass man den Seilfestpunkt an der Kabine mit einem kleinen Scherenhubtisch versehen hat um exakt auf Etagenniveau anzuhalten. Das war bei Anlagen mit 1,2m/s Nenngeschwindigkeit und 5000kg Tragkraft. Die sind deutlich leiser als dieses System.

    • @TheLiftDragon
      @TheLiftDragon 6 дней назад

      Das System wurde meines Wissens auch ab den 70ern ca nicht mehr eingesetzt, aber ich habe dazu keine genauen Angaben. Was man dazu auch noch sagen muss ist, dass es ebenfalls eine Version mit Keilriemen gibt. Die ist natürlich deutlich leiser als mit der Rollenkette. Spätere Anlagen im Bereich >2500kg verwendeten eine hydraulische Nachstelleinrichtung, wo der Fixpunkt der kabinenseitigen Seile durch eine Hydraulik um rund 50cm verfahren werden konnte. Heute braucht es das ja aufgrund Frequenzumrichter eh nicht mehr. 1.2m/s und 5000kg ist ne Hausnummer! Sieht man auch nicht alle Tage.

    • @TheLiftDragon
      @TheLiftDragon 5 дней назад

      @@danielkonig6973 Danke für die Info! Geregelte Anlagen mit Relaissteuerung sind wirklich eine Spezialität, heute ist das leider fast gar nicht mehr zu finden. In der Schweiz war bei Schindler und Schlieren das System Monotron/Dynatron (im Endeffekt dasselbe, aber beide Firmen hatten unterschiedliche Namen dafür) verbreitet, was von Schlieren um 1950 entwickelt wurde. Hierbei waren nicht die Maschinen an sich, sondern nur der Bremsweg über eine Wirbelstrombremse geregelt. Sehr faszinierende Technik, das waren die ersten Anlagen überhaupt mit Direkteinfahrt. Ursprünglich natürlich mit Relaissteuerung, nur ist davon jetzt auch fast nichts mehr erhalten. In Kombination mit der Transistorsteuerung Aconic gibt es noch eine Handvoll Anlagen und natürlich mit Schindler Miconic B und E, aber letzteres ist nicht mehr so speziell.

    Interesting way to do a speed change without actually having a multipole motor, just have a planetary gearbox that will provide the required change in speed when needed, and run the difference with a motor to scrub off RPM when slowing down. Going to guess that intermediate speed change gear is a little bit of a pain to maintain, as it runs open, so flings off lubricating oil, when it really needed to be in a gearbox all of it's own.

    • @TheLiftDragon
      @TheLiftDragon 5 дней назад

      Planetary gearbox? There is no planetary gearbox to be seen here. The mechanism works as follows: The lift is running in full speed, main motor is on, levelling motor is off. The two magnets on top of the gear box are the brake magnet (lower) and the clutch magnet (upper), which couples the large chainwheel onto the drive shaft. 1. The levelling motor starts, bringing the chainwheel up to speed. 2. The main motor turns off and the brake applies to slow doen the lift 3. The magnet engages the clutch to couple the chainwheel to the shaft 4. The brake opens again The lift is now levelling. 5. Both magnets disengage and the levelling motor turns off simultaneously. The lift has now stopped and the chain system is now spinning freely until stop. If you take a close look at the components at 4:47 you can see this process pretty well.

    Belt cable lifts? I don't know about them, Are they really safe?

    • @TheLiftDragon
      @TheLiftDragon 9 дней назад

      They absolutely are, there are steel cables inside the belts after all. Otis introduced the belts over 20 years ago they're a proven technology by now. However, one must take into account that belts do not last as long as conventional cables, needing replacement after approximately 20-25 years. If lubricated and serviced properly, conventional ropes may last twice as long. It always depends on many factors like speed, trip count and travel distance though.

    Nice! But whats not nice is the stupid cable mod… these were probably great lifts! Can we see the motor room too, if there is anything original up there or all is replaced, maybe the car is intact? Either way it is cool to see that small tiny high rpm motor spinning Oh and nice kde-plasma desktop running windows xp there! I am just getting started on Linux and I use Linux Mint with Cinnamon, and sometimes ubuntu budgie, because I have a potato computer with 4gb ram, intel 85 with intel uhd graphics, and also there is better software support, but where were we? This is not a computer channel! 🙃😆

      @TheLiftDragon 8 дней назад

      Thx! Yes, I have filmed a full video on these and I will upload it approximately in a month. The car interior is mostly original, just with the new COP. Motor room just contains the new equipment but I've got some nice footage with the covers removed and also the view down into the shaft from the motor room. Nice to see you joining the Linux community! I've been daily driving it for almost 8 years now. This here is just my small laptop which I take out and about and use for many lift related things. My main laptop however is running Gnome. As this is an old version of the Cadi software it only runs on XP. So I got this VM you see here. ^^

      @@TheLiftDragon oh yeah! The views down the motor room to the shaft are always exiting! I tried gnome, but coming from windows i somehow couldn't get along with it, no minimize button, and you have a 3-step process to open an app… *NOT SAYING GNOME IS BAD* but I don't like it but if I want I can go along with it, every thing has a bit of a learning curve… But the weird thing is I like ubuntu budgie which is in a mac lay out, but it is kinda of a hybrid between windows and mac… in a nut shell; I would prefer Linux mint/kde plasma, but would like and/or not mind to have a second machine/operating system to be ubuntu-budgie or maybe even gnome

      @@Avidiy For me this is not that much of an issue as at some point in the past I mostly stopped using the desktop icons. I am very used to text-based interaction (hello commandline) and therefore I open most programs by just hitting the win key, start typing the name of what I want and hitting enter. This method works universally for Gnome, KDE and Windows itself. Also if you want to be really fast with only a few applications: If you pin them to your taskbar in win/kde or to your dock in gnome, you can shortcut them with the key combinations win+1 to win+9 from anywhere. Probably the fastest way to open an app you use often.

    • @TheLiftDragon
      @TheLiftDragon 9 дней назад

      Indeed, those are chonky machine and 33kW is quite a number. Getting the videos edited and uploaded on RUclips as well as managing everything around the channel takes quite some effort and a lot of time. I also study at university part time, so I just had to take a break from YT and focus on other matters. I was constantly busy with work, study or other projects during the last few months and therefore just had to put RUclips aside for the time. However, that doesn't mean I haven't got any videos left - quite the opposite in fact. I still have a huge backlog of stuff to upload and I even filmed some more things during the time I was gone. So there is a lot to come now and it's going to be bigger, faster and more special lifts indeed.

      They can look pretty creepy with the lights off, especially when you're at the bottom and look up into the darkness. But in their illuminated state I'm very used to them of course and there's nothing I find uncanny. In fact I really like the look of tall shafts with multiple lifts in them, it's a marvel of engineering after all.

      Natürlich, nur für die Aufnahme. Eine solche Anlage sieht man ja auch nicht alle Tage. Die alten Kopierwerke aus den 60er und 70er Jahren sind echte elektromechanische Meisterwerke. Gerade dass Otis hier mit dem Motor auf dem Schlitten ein Modell des Bremsweges aufbaut ist absolut faszinierend.
