It's A Drama
Новая Зеландия
Добавлен 29 июн 2016
This channel is about moving to New Zealand, living in New Zealand, having travel adventures eating & drinking wine (because there always has to be wine).
We are Liz and Brian. A husband & wife who emigrated with their two kids to New Zealand from the UK in 2009 & now get together at the weekends & make podcasts about New Zealand & travel and stuff.
Because let's face it. What else is there to do now the kids are teenagers, and the house is empty?
We love to talk about how to jump into an adventure- big or small & live life to the fullest.
Whatever your age. In fact, the older, the better. Keeping it real.
We're world travellers and adventurers & but most importantly, we are optimists who love living in New Zealand & our aim is to make you relax & smile! We really hope that you'll join us on this journey & subscribe!

The reason why you don't sit on tables is because of respect to Maori culture.
😂😂😂❤❤❤
It's trolley and it's always been trolley. Never heard of anyone call it a trundler. 🤷
20:50 I think it probably varies from store to store, sometimes I take things out of the basket and sometimes I don't but it's never been an issue for me.
What a bloody crack up
The wages are so much lower in NZ, food and housing more expensive. Plus, currently, we have a right wing facsist friendly 😢 government, ATM. Australia first.
When you have a guest try to be a better listener! Sent with best intentions...
We have Boronia here also which I think is Aussie and Winter Sweet - this last one with which you will be familiar.
What r u guys talking about, there are already lots of illegal foreign workers
Thanks for the information never leaving my home im comfortable how hard do I have to work 24 7 no Thanks yu
Just giving heads up to any South Africans it's not worth immigrating here, plenty of exploitation and xenophobia. Cost of living is very expensive and very difficult to have long term work.
go back home on the TEN POUND SHIP
A lot of Brits will move to NZ if they knew the cost of living is less and quality of life is a lot better.
Hey guys, remember when it’s raining in town it’s snowing like mad at Whitewater. Even if you don’t want to ski go up and have lunch up there and enjoy the incredible winter ! Again, the drive will be good entertainment !
Daphne is a Chinese fragrant flower plant that you can find in many OZ gardens parks and nurseries. Enjoy NZ
Kiwis everywhere in Queensland OZ. Why?
I recommend this interview/chat with Liz and Allie. It has been an eye-opener for this native.
Close to OZ a big plus especially the Queensland coast
UK is dirtier and more littered than ever. Good to flee
You’ve still got some things to learn… Never park by the trolley bay. Unless you want a dent in your car! The emptying of baskets and discussion of money reflects the flat class system - no-ones too flash to empty their own basket. PS it’s called a shout when you cock up onsite.

"Don't forget to bring a plate!" I said this once to some new Pommie neighbours without thinking and they duly turned up with an empty plate each... thinking we were short of china! What we were having was a pot luck dinner for a large number of neighbours and everyone who came along brought some food to contribute to the feast - on a plate!!! One kiwi saying our new neighbours would never forget as when they arrived with their empty plates they were met with peels of laughter!
My grandmother was south african and she said tables are for glasses not for children's arses. So not just a kiwi thing.
Increase wages to retain our skilled workers, We should be matching AUS and Inflation correctly, (not partially where it doesn't work). We're a so called Sovereingn Country so have the ability to mint or print our own money !. Other Countries do it to get around inflation and Prosper ? With immigration how many migrants bring extended Family members, that decreases the value of that exchange, If bringing in a skilled person at the cost of eventually inviting the rest of their aging family that can't work, won't work. Those Grandparents will be collecting a benefit and adding more pressures to exhausted social resources like healthcare and work and income/benefit/retirement payments, When they've never contributed and paid into the Countries funds by way of Taxes ! That added pressures on housing shortages, infrustructure, food, everything etc ...? To lose skilled people offshore after using the Countries Resources to train them through schooling, Trades and UNI is CRAZY ! And then to say we're looking for skilled People offshore, who aren't all legit and experienced out in the field, half of them aren't as qualified as they say they are, But talk the talk but can't walk the talk, But manage to still get placed because Relatives employ them long enough to get residency and stay under the radar & collecting the dole. It's ridiculous and taxing on the rest of the Country !
Woop woop (somewhere) is OZ slang
That passing story is sooo relatable .I visited from Canada and driving behind someone going 80. As soon as the passing lane they go up to 100 and then slow back down once its over. 😂
Kiwi is a ballhead thing
This isn't Kiwi land or New Zealand this is AOTEAROA
E ki ngā pakeha Kaore e mohio nga tangata whenua haere atu
Same way we malays say to the non malays when they complain about Malaysia....go back then!!
As a born in NZ kiwi thinking back over five trade trainings / apprenticeships it was mostly master tradie tips from Brits & south African tradesmen that helped along the way. Seems crazy that there isn't an easy transfer of quals like City & Guilds etc. Many people have said they loved the fact that they can go boating, join clubs. go golfing for a modest price here in NZ. There isn't a local pub on every corner though & not as many international shows to attend. DIY is more common here. Not many in forestry trades . Love your blogs.
Beers on Friday night yes. Knocking off at midday no. The passing lane is the most frustrating thing as a kiwi. Not sure what you mean about baskets, just use a trolley
Putting your bottom or carry bag on the table or even your suitcase on the bed if unpacking is perceived to be unhygienic . Not sitting on tables is also linked to Māori beliefs about the tapu(sacred) nature of bodily wastes and the need to keep them separate from food. The supermarket thing with baskets is that they wont let you walk out the store with a basket anyway, only a trolley. People usually take things out of the basket at the checkout for 2 reasons, 1 its a polite thing to do and 2 you organise the products into categories like frozens, tins, clening products etc so that when they scan them through the checkoiut person will put them into the bags you have with you after they scan them or usually its a 2 person job, 1 unloads the basket and the other puts the products into the correct bags after they have been scanned. Cool video guys!
Feijoas taste like guava to me - like a smaller version.
You came here to Taranaki , mistake 1, LOL, Dont be nosy, asking about prices, wages, etc, look up thing to say i see you is also so u dont shout across the rd, just a heads up, hey friend, That allows us to not have to speak , a wink is not good , its cool way of acknowledging you, if u go to a party, bring a plate a crate and dont be late, at a pub, usually one person buys a round, and so on, so pay the first round so u dont have to pay when everyones turnt up late, if in a pubs, put ya money outta sight. The road is a road of too fast too slow drive to the speed of the law, if slow pull over, everyone loves nice considerate people, allow a car in before you move in heavy traffic, merge like a zip. sitting on a table is tapu, table is clean, you bum aint clean, friday drinks are the old way , no many do now, just go home. Dont try to blend in so hard, allow us to come up to you and chat. Gossip is bad, fact is best. Dont talk about the weather, we'll think shes boring, I like your hair, or dress, cool boots, etc, money isnt everything, its multi cultural society, where you from ? is a common start, what do you do, Im a builder, , just saying that means hes employed, a tradi, Theres cool places all over Nz, Just be yourselves. Sometimes i like hearing about your country, the shoppin basket, dump it on the escalator and tell her do ya dam job, sadly customer service here sucks, over the last 15 yrs, no help at the petrol station, pack n save, no help at the putting groceries into bags, take receit back to briscoes say u want the red one, get ya money bac and re buy the same thing.
Hi guys just to mention a wee gem of a well i guess you could say a fishing resort down Southland way is Riverton this little township has some beautiful sea views ,it is hidden off the main tourist tracks but is worth while stopping in ,the beach cafe sits just across from the sea and it dose get busy in the holiday time its a great place to swim because its no too deep and great for the kids to go swimming ,there are alot of batches there and homes ,at one point years ago they were going for about $200,000 about 15yrs ago or so but now they are alot more expensive to buy infact alot of the places there have been done up or new builds have popped up and are worth alot more now than before ,next time if your down this way its a must see place to go ,there isnt alot of shops there but the scenery is just well you just have to visit there to see what i mean all the best to you both
In the USA, I always park next to the trolley drop off at the supermarket!
And we call them shopping carts here.
The not talking about money isn’t so much cultural as employer power enforcing contracts to not talk about what you get paid to stop employees advocating for fairer pay for themselves. It came in with individual contracts when they killed collective bargaining. It’s silencing to keep employees in ignorance. But as a result it’s become cultural. Keep talking about. But do so knowing the reason and how it empowers people to know. The sitting on tables and any surfaces where food is prepared or served is Tapu (taboo). Which makes a lot of sense when you consider Maori wore flax skirts. So not much separating bottom and food prep/eating surface. Lots of pakeha still aren’t particularly respectful of this. But it’s pretty basic, don’t put your defecating apparatus (even if it has clothes over it all) where you eat, or make food. Yeah, the passing lane thing does bring out the w*nker in some folk. Their brains are a mystery. Probably even to themselves. Tooting in tunnels and holding your breath isn’t mandatory. Just a bit of fun that’s gotten passed down as what you did in kids on family trips until it’s become generational. But the tooting did have a practical historical origin where visibility is low and when single lanes were common. And people would also walk through them. There are still a lot of single bridges, but not so much with tunnels due to the perils. And put your basket on the conveyor belt after you unload your groceries, you don’t have to hold it. It works as a spacer between yours and the next person’s groceries. Briscoes used to be a members only shopping club. But I guess it’s better to be in a permanent cycle of sales to reinforce to everyone you are getting a bargain by shopping at sale time. Kathmandu perpetual sales probably had a lot to do with why the last NZ owner and on-shore manufacturer of adventure clothing, MacPac, finally closed down its manufacturing and off-shored production. Couldn’t compete with that kind of marketing. So yeah, no, to the whole Kathmandu model. But no one thinks about that, and if anything felt disappointed with MacPac for finally folding to pressure.
