DA and ANC are Rats, that's toxic to the country.

The rand's value increased because the DA represented stability in the country. It's the first time a party that is viewed as black and a party that is viewed as white came together to work together. It signifies stability and relationship building. It showed a stronger potential in growth and thus the rand's strength would increase. If the MK joined the ANC it would have just been the ANC of old. No increase in stability rather a decrease because they are factions (fractured/broken pieces of one thing). The EFF is radical and is seen as extreme risk because the policies they push for is similar to that of Zimbabwe prior to it's giant drop. So the only coalition that showed strength and growth was ANC + DA. Thus the ANC needs the DA to increase the value of the rand.

In my humble opinion, I don't think that the Rand was the biggest ally of the DA because the Zille-team had some conspiratorial leverage more than others, nor do I think that is what she meant. Instead, I think she is refering to transparency and an inclusive public sentiment refelcted by public (including international) investment financially, ideologically, etc. Again, the notion of separating party and state is a useful and ever growing tool in politics in SA, because of the fact that, while government functions, outside accountability like strong party leaders communicates accountability to the public for transparency's sake. I think it is harsh to say Zille has somehow changed in her position on tranparent governance, even if in a coalition. If the various ministers are playing in this soccer match called givernance, the parties, and by extension the public are becoming the referees. That's good stewardship of our democracy.
