2018 Appalachian Trail Thru Hike
Never being one to turn down a new hobby, I decided to try my hand at HAM radio operation and started doing SOTA, which got me back out in to the woods & hiking again. As soon as that happened, I turned my wife in to a hiker & we started our newest addiction. I have always wanted to hike the AT, always finding myself a rather anti-social kind of man, finding solace and a kind of calm in the woods, to share that with someone you love makes that feeling all the more special.
Now that I have grown wise in my old age, I have learned that research is the key to a happy hike. Gone are the old days of throwing a bag and case of beer over my shoulders and heading to the woods for the weekend, now I need to think of how to shave ounces, or dare I say GRAMS, to save my aging neck!! So we thought we would share our knowledge, our adventures, our love of our hobby and perhaps learn from you as well. Hike your own hike, as we will also!

I'm glad that you've had some good news in such a roller coaster year. I hope it keeps staying steady and you have tons of time together still! Hi Gucci Girl and Grumpy! Thank you so much for taking the time to share this update. Hook and I are no longer on Social Media (save for YT), so it's been a little more challenging to keep up with folks. We were so relieved when we found this video! Grumpy, the part about the "cat with 9 lives" made us chuckle and we are just so glad to hear your situation improved. Also, shout out to Gucci Girl for being the most amazing advocate and caregiver. I just wanted to hug both of y'all when we watched that video. The BMX biking adventures sound like a blast and we can totally see you crushing those races, Grumpy! You are both such bright lights in so many people's lives and certainly left a lasting impression on us during our thru-hike. You helped us remember that people are inherently good. God is good! Great news and so glad to hear from you. Just got back from Big Meadows last week. You may remember that Ellen and I met you there several years ago. Ellen and I had just retired from a surgical career in Virginia and were glad to meet the celebrity couple on the trail. We can surely understand many of the things that you both have faced. You have both faced it with courage and faith. You are both an encouragement and inspiration to many. We have often remembered you in our prayers and will continue to do so. By faith we will meet again we are sure. Galations 2:20 has always been my favorite verse of Scripture! May it give you hope and strength this vey day... God bless you both!

It must be postoperative day 1 or 2 for you today. I just heard the news. Lord be with GG and Grumpy as they persevere through this enormous trial. Wrap your arms around them and fill them with faith, trust, and peace that you have a plan and your plan cannot be thwarted. Touch Grumpy and heal him in Jesus’ name!
Grumpy, I do believe in God and I always remember what Jesus said, (paraphrasing) "In this life you will have trouble, but take heart for I have overcome the world!" God will be with you every step of the way no matter what you encounter.
