Here was my trick...I checked my phone at least 200 times a day when walking to see when I was in a coverage area. Rarely was it at a shelter. I was probably at a 15% success rate at uploading near shelters. Always found the sweet spots when hiking. Even in NH and ME.
I know the humidity is draining. No pressure about uploading, although I know its easy for me to say and a very real mental game for you. I remember you were having theses same problems with Verizon in Georgia. Weird. Looks damn hot, good choice to shorten your day and it's nice to get info like the water source from a NOBO.
Heat and humidity sucks for sure right along with Verizon!! Got the same problem when at my house in Maine. Take care of yourself, listen to your body.
Be careful in the heat & humidity... I had ATT for 18 years... switched to Sprint and get same service as I used to for 1/2 the price and free Iphone X...

Hope you made to the Dahlgren Camp: bathroom, shower, restaurant...I think they deliver.... and a nice camp area to take a long afternoon nap! I know the heat is really bad right now.
Just hike what you want to. Humidity was brutal today in the NE so no wonder you have no energy. Make sure your pee doesn't get dark or you will have other problems and not many hikers are in your area to assist in case of an emergency (I assume).
Get some electrolytes to add to your water. Gatorade is hard to find in the packets but propell makes some single packets or the Mio liquids has electrolytes (I think the Mio Fit is what is easiest to find). If you find yourself cramping or muscles twitching you are out of balance
I agree: Verizon sucks, especially in rural areas. I think you did great on this day. I have hiked that section in 94 degree heat; it is a harder section than it looks on the profile maps.

That climb after the shelter is brutal ... I like to hike there sometimes ... easy road access.

I have not been happy with Verizon for 14 years. It's my own fault for not getting rid of them long ago
Hey Grumpy make sure that you are replacing the salt you are expending. Very Important.
Frank's red hot is high in sodium and most of my meals have salt added

Lostuphigh had good Verizon in GA TN VA while my at&t had nothing. It might be hot and humid but at least you’re not in a swamp of southern Louisiana.
