I can remember each of my “horribly hot” days, 3 of them. First day into the smokies, day 70 when I broke down, and the day over the board walk in full sun. They were few and far between, you are a trooper getting through that heat, stay safe and well. You have to enjoy SNP
My wife uses an spf protection umbrella from hyperlite. Really helps cut down some of the direct sun. Especially when you are not in the green tunnel. We all want to see you healthy
You need a sombrero amigo!! So happy to hear you jumped off to go to a hostel after listening to your body. Hope you are having a great day today. Take it easy man.
The humidity this summer has been TERRIBLE. I feel ya Grumpy. I hiked 13.5 miles on the Pinhoti a few days ago, drank 2.5 liters of water and almost a liter of Gatorade and only stopped to pee once! I sweated the rest out. 😵
Glad you made the decision to get off the trail and properly cool down. I pushed mowed for 2 hours yesterday here in PA and it burned me into the ground. I even had a wet rag on my head and plenty of water. Heat exhaustion is nothing to play with while alone and away from help. Better weather is on the way. Stay hydrated my friend, 73🎤
So glad you are focusing on your overall health! You’re making all the right decisions. Enjoy your weekend with GG! I heard she’s pretty good with the trail magic...😉
I'm glad you got into the hostel. {They should call the place Love and Light} Usually the heat breaks about the 3rd week of September. Hang on til then. Short days or whatever it takes to stay safe.
Oh my gosh! I’m so glad you are okay now. Don’t want to lose you. I watch your experience with great interest, because like you, when it comes to heat, I just can’t function in it. Besides, I have to wear full prescription support hose; especially when carrying a pack. I tried hiking last summer in August and that didn’t work out so well. What do you do for electrolytes? Stay well Grumpy!
It has been brutal on the humidity over the past week. Tuesday/Wednesday, I did an overnight trip in a higher elevation area, where the temp was only in the mid-70's at noon yesterday, but the humidity was absolutely brutal. Glad you are at the hostel; this kind of heat and humidity is so dangerous.
Whoa!!! Finished watching.... well, like I always say... things happen for a reason! Thank God you ended up where you ended up! Be safe Grumpy and someone definitely is watching over your shoulders!!!!
Hot weather really stinks - I hate it with a passion! You stopped just in time. Fortunately there were a couple good road crossings there to jump off at. That hostel looks pretty cool...I did not know about that one.
Don't die - remember "Good Day Sunshine by the Beatles" - that's what I was thinking as you were doing the video. You are making good time in this heat - fall is coming (and let's pray Florence stays away)! P.S. --- way to go, Blackallachian!
Understand - and as I sit at my kitchen table in the AC, I am sending you positive thoughts (and feeling a little guilty). This evening I also watched Chica and Sunsets (Appalachian Trail Tales couple from last year) as they posted their first Day 0 video from the El Camino in Spain - my dream for one day after I finish the A.T.! You give me hope that I can get my LASH done and still be young enough to hike in Spain!
Dang, Grumpy. Yes.... Up those good carbs. Disciple did have that happen to him. No bueno! He was burning through his stores and so his body had started burning his muscle. When you said the shelter smelled like urine I was worried it was actually you. Glad you got off and are feeling better. ❤
It continues to amaze me how debilitating the heat is when hiking and how much worse it is with every year of age added. Hopefully it will cool down for you soon. I know you love the below 30 degree weather. Stay cool until then!
Good call, most definitely. I have often thought of you over the past few days. No shame just gain just gain. What about rigging up one of those hiker/backpacker umbrellas on your pack to give you shade while hiking? Just a thought. Definitely listen to your body. Your doing a wicked awesome job. I think some of the lessons on the trail are trail and error, stay safe and thinkenjoy.😆😀👻🕊
@@GucciGirlandGrumpy yea gotcha i would be interested in any suggestions or things you do in the heat and the humidity ad I am returning in June. Sorry the heat/humidity bern so bad. Hang in there you are doing great. We all suppory you up here in the sticks of central NY.

I will enjoy

I am staying healthy. It's just hard some days.
It may be selfish on my part, but don't die before the next video goes up.
Your funny Uncle Paul
If he did Uncle Paul, I would retrieve his phone and put it up and dedicate to you!! Lol. GG
BlessingOfAdventure ...and you’re his friend??....🤔😱😂😉
BlessingOfAdventure LOL!!!
Interesting about that shelter. Happy hiking!!
Grumpy glad you're ok and I'm not a summer hiker either! Prefer the cooler temps for sure. You're awesome!
Cooler weather is my friend

It's hot again today. Only 6 miles today
Good decisions Grumpy. Good that you were able to get cooled down...the big question...were you able to replenish the sourpatch kids? Truck on!
I did get sour patch kids, but not enough. Hopefully GG will bring me a big bag
Scary heat! I'm glad you're know the warnings of getting overheated. Take care of yourself and have fun. You're doing great!
Thank you. I knew it was time to go and find air-conditioning
Glad you made it too the hostel. Enjoying your hike God bless.
Made it and still heading to Georgia

Thank you. I was feeling it, but I knew that just one more miles was not going to fix anything, I had to get in front of air-conditioning
Glad you made it - hope you are OK
Doing fine. Just knew I had to get a break
Glad your ok 👌
Thanks, I am good

Thanks LoL
So glad you made it to the hostel to get some relief from the oppressive heat.
I needed it bad
I'm glad you got into the hostel. {They should call the place Love and Light} Usually the heat breaks about the 3rd week of September. Hang on til then. Short days or whatever it takes to stay safe.
I hear there is rain in the forecast for the next few days. As long as there is no bolts of lightning I am good
“I can’t even make a grumpy face nice.”....😂🤣
I can't LoL
I think you are doing really well. You keep pushing it down the trail. No need to break any records.
Believe me when I say, i am not trying to break records just trying to get to Georgia

I use propel added to my water. It was the last part of the day that really did me in. Walk across the open top and most of the down was not shaded

🤣.... You thought you were smelling the privy... holy crap... that's when you know your an official through hiker...lol!!!!

I got the rest I needed yesterday and short hike today. I am already done for the day.

New this year. They are super cool and chill. Next time GG and I come down this way I want GG to meet them
Grumpy as early as you get up to hike I'm thinking you should be called ER Junior LOL. Hey stay cool and take care of those carbs
It's from spending so much time in the military. I just like getting up earlier than most.
Glad you got to a hostel, you have to be acclimated to the heat, which takes time.
I don't have enough time in my life to get acclimated to the heat. It stopped on my second time into the Persian Gulf
Dont die Grumpy...
Trying to stay alive
Grumpy this heat and humidity is hard on everyone. Just listen to your body and take more breaks. You're doing great !
Thanks

I followed Appalachian Trail tails last year
Excellet choice on calling the hostel. Cool off, freshen up (so you won't walk in circles tying to find a privy) lol.
LoL
That's right
