#1 with bold and all caps ENTER SANDMAN. Not a bad song, just overplayed to high hell. #2 November Rain. It's just long and boring and a fake epic. And you just hear it all the time if you listen to any kind of radio rock. Just a real case and point of the bloat that is Use Your Illusion #3 Tool Parabola. Good, but overplayed. #4 Evanescance - Bring Me to Life. It was my girlfriend in high school's favorite song, so she played it all the damn time. And it was everywhere. #5 AC/DC - For Those ABout to Rock. I just don't really care for this song, and it is a big one of theirs. #6 Black Sabbath - Ironman. It's just one of Ozzy era Sabbath's worst songs to me, and again it gets played way more than the great songs like Children of the Grave and NIB. #7 Pantera - Good Friends and a Bottle of Pills. I loathe this song. I don't like the styyle of just talking over the instrumentals, and it's just a wretched song. #8 Megadeth - Sweating Bullets. Same as above, but with the added negative of Dave Mustaine's less than stellar voice. I love Megadeth, but at the best of times Dave's voice is an acquired taste. And this is far from the best of the band. #9 Morbid Angel - Destructos vs the World. I could just say this whole album, but wanted to pick one particularly putrid point of this album, and this is the low point to me. #10 The Black Dahlia Murder - Warborn. Proof nobody's perfect. This is really the only song I just flat out don't like by TBDM. They're my favorite band, and Nocturnal is my favorite album by them, but I just don't like this song.

I've seen Napalm Death live quite a few times. On albums, they're good, but they are one of the best damn live bands there is.

Since you already noted The Cure, Opeth, Anciients, Blood Incantation, and Nick Cave, I'm leaving those out: 1. The Sea Kings - Fear is All Around: A higher lyrical body count than most death and black metal albums! 2. The Buttertones - Face to Face With Fantasy: If you like early Bad Seeds and Grinderman, you'd appreciate this. 3. Vitskär Süden - Vessel: For those who love the cosmic Floydian excursions of Blood incantation, this psych prog band is a must hear. 4. The Other Sun - Daimon, Devil, Dawn: Swedish occult psych noir. RIYL Scientists, The Devil’s Blood, Lucid Sins, Jack Harlon & The Dead Crows. 5. Transit Method - Othervoid: Prog roughed up with a greasy garage punk, and grunge, like The Fierce & the Dead, Crown Lands and Mondo Drag. 6. WIZRD - Elements: Norwegian jazz-rock/psych prog and Southern rock, like early Yes jamming with Mahavishnu Orchestra and The Allman Brothers. RIYL Motorpsycho, heavier King Gizzard. 7. Pøltergeist - Nachtmusik: Canadian metal dude from Whyte Diamond goes post-punk/goth. RIYL Unto Others, Neon Nightmare. 8. Oranssi Pazuzu - Muuntautuja: Finnish avant-space rock psychedelic black metal are at peak powers and yet are not as fashionable this year for some reason. 9. Iotunn - Kinship: Danish prog/death metal, RIYL Opeth. 10. Causa Sui - From the Source: If you have any interest in instrumental space rock with a touch of jazz, these Danish folks are the best. 11. Pallbearer - Minds Burn Alive: American doom band pushing boundaries but not getting as much recognition as I'd expect this year. 12. Ufomammut - Hidden: My favorite cosmic doom/sludge/space rock band. 13. Orange Goblin - Science, Not Fiction: Meat 'n' potatoes stoner metal with a bit of sludge at the top of their game. Bubbling under: Sovereign, Fracture, Ulcerate, Eternal, Cave Sermon, Siderean, Job For A Cowboy, Dool, Julie Christmas, Zombi, Hands Of Goro, MONO, Spirit Mother, The Jesus Lizard, Shellac, Mamaleek, Water Damage, Bingo Fury.

I've not listened to that many new albums this year outside of the big releases; primarily indulging in favourites and discovering older stuff to see me through instead. In terms of heavier stuff, new music released from 0% Mercury (Ukrainian metallic hardcore), Verona Florrist (Canadian psychedelic sludge/doom), Blythe (heavy Manchester 'grungegaze') and Profiler (Nu metal revival done extremely well) all caught my attention though!

Nails is my album of the year. Wow. Would play the whole thing at least 3-4 times in a row while in the gym. Absolute power and those harsh vocals are another level

Changes for me: 2004 - Killswitch Engage The End of Heartache. This is the first band I got into with non-clean vocals. This album will always be extremely important to me, and it still holds up as one of the best metalcore albums ever.Also, Demigod was absolutely huge that year. 2005 - Nile's Annihilation of the Wicked. This album is absolutely brilliant I feel Nile and Karl Sanders do not get enough respect and will take any chance I get to trumpet them. One of my favorite albums ever. And gotta love picking Cattle D's Monolith. It's absolutely brilliant.

Isn't it strange how songs affect different individuals? I am a huge fan of death and thrash metal, have been for years and, yet there is one song out there, away from the death and thrash mayhem, that I absolutely adore and can listen to for ever and that song is Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel. How can a man listen to Rotting Christ, Septicflesh, Bloodbath, Torture Killer one minute...and then Bridge Over Troubled Water the next? What's going on there? The Power of Love by Frankie Goes to Hollywood is another favourite.

Man, so much good shit in 1990. Rust in Peace, Painkiller, Facelift, Seasons, and Cowboys from Hell. If anyone said any of those albums, you can't really say they're wrong. Just nod your head and say "Great album, but I prefer X."

I follow you on pretty much any of the bands/artists you mentioned, but come on, Dimmu Borgir, the one-two punch of "Spiritual Black Dimensions" & "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia" remains more than memorable in terms of (not just black) metal epicness!

'83 DIO - 'Holy Diver' borderlines on just Hard Rock for me, a LOT more 'METAL' albums that year, IMO.

Malevolent Creation(pure aggression, perfect gym music), Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Nile, Iced Earth, Demons and Wizards, Tad Morose, Brainstorm, Morbid Angel, Immolation, Slayer. No matter the numerical limitations of a list, there is always room for fucking Slayer.
