I'm sure people know, but if there is a chance someone doesn't., just wanted to add, that the guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari is currently playing in Megadeth (just because Nightwish was mentioned, when two of the fellas were discussed).
I did mention it in the video but unfortunately I must have brushed the microphone because the audio was bad so I had to edit it out. Thanks for posting it here though 🤘
Lovely weather aye - and most definitely those Ominous Clouds behind you, hmm that being said, i for one love these reviews walking outside blasting it off man. I've not listened this latest apparent masterpiece by Mäenpää enough for conclusions. It requires much more of the listener (than most metal albums) these days. It's certainly a splendid ride to begin with!
Been watching your videos for a week or so now. And wanted to drop a comment. Think we ate roughly the same age mate. Winter sun is a special band for me. The forest seasons is an absolute classic! Time is great. Time 2 is good but is it worth the time? I don’t think so. Great video though mate 😉🤘🏻
first thing i have to say is..Wintersun did actually no crowdfunding at all. Yes the first one was falsly named like that but actually ppl bought the forest seasons album with it. Same with Time2. There was no crowdfunding. It was the pre-order of the time package..nothing else. ;)
Thank you for the informative & entertaining reviews! I’m a sucker for Melodic Death Metal, Folk Metal & Kitchen Sink Metal. Despite this I’ve never given Wintersun a proper chance being occupied with other bands around them like Amon Amarth, Eluveitie, Amorphis or Dark Tranquility. Perhaps it’s… Time (good lord it’s spreading)
Small correction: all the songs for Time 1 and 2 were originally worked on to be released as a single entity called Time. For example Kai's drums were recorded for all the songs in the same time period. Nuclear Blast pushed Jari to get something released so he split the works and Time 1 came out. He had all the songs "ready" for Time 2 back in 2012, but there just weren't enough RAM to get them released. And here we are a timely 12 years later with the rest of the songs.
I would also give it a 8/10. I'm a huge wintersun fan, been listening since the debut in 2004. I've been dying for this album to come out and i'm mostly satisfied with the product. The only thing that keeps me from giving it a 10/10 is the fact that it's only 45 mins long, in reality only 35 mins of actual songs if you remove all the intros and interludes. For a project that took this long to finish, I just wanted more. If there were 2 more real tracks on this album then it'd be perfect.
I'm a drummer. The one thing that was cool to hear was his interview where Kai discussed how he tracked these songs back in 2013. They sound replaced the snare and kick, but his symbols and Tom's are the same from the other albums. Luckily you can still feel the vibe of a real drummer. That's really my only complaint. The Way of Fire alone was worth the wait for me
There were definitely moments where the drums sounded very replaced but overall it still felt like a drummer (like you say) Glad to hear you still enjoyed the album
Great review👍 I actually find myself enjoying the new Fantasy Metal Project from Jari so much more than Time2. The variety of the songs and more straight forward fantasy- themed metal just works for me.
I certainly did. It was called freetobewhoibe (still on RUclips) I didn't do anything for almost three years so I just decided to start from scratch. I'm happy to say that it's going well 🤘
There does seem to be a lot of people not happy with Time II - I wonder how much of that is because of the amount of how long it's taken to come out. I've not been waiting for this album to come out so I had literally no expectations. I hadn't listened to much of Time either as I wasn't so much into that kind of music when it came. I am pretty blown away by the Time albums, but maybe if I was waiting many years and I'd put in crowdfunding money then I would maybe be disappointed
It's a great album. It's not perfect, but then again wanting it to be perfect is why it took all these years for us to finally get to listen to it. People need to stop focusing on Jari's procrastination and just listen to it for what it is. Don't let all the irrelevant stuff ruin this banger album for yourself. The flaws are there, but they're nowhere close to warranting the level of negativity some people feel towards the album.
This is strange coincidence. Wintersun was first for me. Many years after Wintersun, i heard Devin. I love SYL and other Devin's music since. Top shelves music, musicmanship and vocals are clearly in the great hall of vocal valhala. GODS are singing.
@@JohnDengisYT It's not really supposed to have evolved that much, as these are all songs that have been written like 20 years ago and were supposed to be just one album instead of Time I and Time II with huge delays.
i thought it was a very decent album, an 8 was my score for it as well. but my main gripe is that i just can't imagine that for the time they took to make the album it would've made for a "better" end product. it's all subjective of course but that thought kept sticking in the back of my mind as i was listening to it. with that being said, i enjoyed it but it's unfortunate that there's this awkward aura around it regarding the whole making of it.
This album ha amazing music, next level guitar solos and instrumentals, but they should have ''re-recorded'' the drums (most of the drums are 8-10 years old). I feel the drum sound is not quite there and not quite as ''real'', compared to their other albums. Anyway, solid.
Next album Out Of Time lol….DT, Assemble The Chariots and Orbit Culture here to mention a few of 200 bands I have of many genres. This is not a car tunes album nor a background music listen as it requires no interruptions and a sit still pay attention listen. That’s the only disappointment for me. Wish I knew why it took 10 years though as I’m sure this sound is still achieved on the standard 2-3 years. Having saiid this I’m new to music production and the longer I spend composing and mixing the better I sound 😂. I’ll only lift weights to the bangers 2&5 may be 6 but nevertheless it’s an album that is now in my collection. Just to name another MPE Seven…😮
Short answer: YES, now you don't need to watch the whole video xD

He speaks about some Dewins Town/Down like similiar he is big fan of / anyone got proper name so I can check it, thank you. I cannot hear it properly sorry.
After all the discourse around the crowdfunding and wanting the studio, proper equipment, etc. I cant be anything but extremely disappointed in the final product. The mix on this album is terrible. The drums are too loud, sound like crap and drown out everything else. There potentially is a great album in there but this is not it. 6/10 and that feels generous.
Is Time II ok? Yes. Is it outstanding? No. Is it worth a 12 year wait? No. Do the songs need ten million supercomputers for alle the different audio tracks? No. Time I was way better. Time II is a disappointment. But that´s just my humble opinion.
No music is worth 12 years wait. But that's not the point of making music. It's not releasing something worth a period of waiting... It's just about I can do it or not. About pc power, it requires a lot of power and the main struggle was to get plugins that are souding good.
I think it’s a great album musically, but the production/mixing is a huge disappointment imo. The vocals are too low in the mix and there is not a clear distinction between instruments, causing a huge wall of sound with not much clarity. Time 1 is mixed better and the vocals are more clear. It really bothers me because I love Wintersun and was expecting perfection. That’s not to say it’s unlistenable, but I can only image how much better it would have sounded if it was mixed by a professional producer.
It's basically a stretched out EP. Jari knows how carry the same melody for 6-7 minutes. Add in long intros and outtros with rain and wind effects and there's your LP. Very underwhelming for me.
Pure bullshit from Maenpaa, so many delays and money grabbing for an bellow average (in terms of Wintersun standards) album. Like album isn't bad it's just overhyped and meh. Meh, Jari, mehh.

The music is pure bliss. Historical work in my opinion.

Glad you enjoyed it. Definitely recommend checking this album out as well as the first one. Quality music.
Agreed
what is a kitchen sink metal? xD
Excellent taste sir! Had the good fortune to see the latter trio in one night in November '22. Best gig I've been to.
Best album review I've ever heard or well seen.

All songs is a solid 8/10 minimum, So damn good that I'm still looping the album
It's their Magnum Opus.
8/10 for me as well. Very enjoyable listen 🤘
You are so funny lol thank you for the review. I pretty much agree with you on this album.

I also thought of Devin Townsend when listening to this. I am also a HevyDevy megafan as well 🤟
