Now that we have Time II in our hands I'm just glad Jari and the band can move on and focus on making quality music without the pressure of finishing time. I'm content with no more time so long as we have the eternal Wintersun. Just passion and energy in the music that we all know and love from Wintersun. What a crazy story it's been.
As far as I remember he caught pneumonia while doing his mandatory military service as a young man, and as a result had to have a part of his lungs removed. This is why he often sounds out of breath in interviews. It’s incredible that he can sing and scream the way he does.
This is one of the best Time II interviews (if not the best)…you can see how free Jari’s feeling and for the look of his words I’m sensing the follow-up of Time II will come at some point on 2025. 🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥
It always surprise me how down to earth and honest successful finnish metal musicians are when compared to the rest of the world. I can see the contrast even as a finnish person.
I noticed that Jasper tries to interject while Jari isn't done talking several times, happened so often it stood out. Also the final segment with the "closing statements" felt really rushed. I really like Jasper and hope he continues growing as a reviewer
@@pbmdh true, unfortunately press schedules are hectic, so we have to work with the time that's available... What else would you like to know about the album?
Computer power! Yo; Intel, AMD and Nvidia, etc. Please reach Jari Mäenpää for advice. Modern assets are obviously at their limits because of this man. Humanity has flown gadgets to other planets (?) but Wintersun's doings are setting new standards locally making multitrack metal music?
800 individual tracks in a DAW with plugins would cripple most available CPUs available at retail to be fair... the real question is why do his songs need that many tracks... surely 60% of those tracks blur into the soundscape...
@@jackoconnor6797 You might think that, but they are still there, your brain catches all those subtle edetails subconciously and that adds to the experience of listening to jari's music, try listening to the orchestrations isolated, adn I'm sure you'll start catching much more details the next time you listen to all of the tracks together.
@@jackoconnor6797 Some points I wanna add. A more fair comparison in my opinion would be a movie soundtrack at mixing stage. I totally get that it sounds ludicrous compared to the typical metal production, but is it really that insane if you look at it in the greater context of what today's media production is capable of? I mean... virtually any sound design session can easily have up to several hundred tracks, even if it's just a short film. Track count by itself isn't really an indication of how processing heavy a project is anyway. The devil is in the details. What plugins are used. What's the architecture behind them. In terms of efficiency, so much has changed over the last few years and I believe that is precisely why Jari got Time II done now, even though it was 'only' mixed in the so called semi-studio. About the soundscape blur ... that's kinda hard to tell without an A B comparison, which would be interesting. Perhaps someone can tinker together a "light" mix version with the isolated tracks. In all seriousness though, I would argue that it's not really a fair question to ask whether all those subtle elements are REALLY necessary, because that's a big gray area between artistic choice and technical possibilities. And to be honest... this 'overproduced', super dense and complex style of music - isn't that precisely what people are here for?
Without touring it is hard to earn the money which is needed... thats a problem. But maybe they will make it (new albums). Thats also the reason the others had to find other bands i guess.
"go back work in silence and doing social media" Yeah, so i guess no tour planned for a while, it's understandable with Teemu being in Megadeth now, but sad
Yeah they all said in one of QnA videos that all other band members are busy with their other projects. But hey, this means that Jari can work on other projects in peace and finish them sooner!
touring is quite a large undertaking, and he is in good flow with the albums... he said he wants to get the next one out before touring rather than putting it on the back-burner again. I'm sure he wants something NEW out and not just Time II.
Seeing Teemu with Megadeth this FRIDAY!!! Soo stoked!!! Happy for the guy. Had to be a dream to get to play with Mustaine and be a part of such a unique band as Wintersun! Love both bands and awesome guitarists equally, though Teemu has a lot of work to do to get on the spire with Mustaine.(Ashes in your Mouth!) I’ll patiently wait for Wintersun to tour again. More Wintersun music is awesome and well worth the wait!!!
Only listened to a bit of it so far. Songs seem good, though overlong, but the production is exactly what I'd expect from 2024 plastic Wacken metal. Waaay too loud and "huge".
It sounds like he wants us to pay for working in a very inefficient way with "over a 1000 tracks". As a former sound engineer I can tell you. You don't need that.
Jari is talking nonsense. With computers back in 2010 you could put many heavy plugins on tracks, not just "one eq" or so as he said. I've been making music since mid 90's with computers so I know bullshit when I hear it. Maybe he lacked skills but he definately didn't lack computer power. Or maybe he didn't have money to buy other than lousy market laptop Acer or some other piece of shit.
Bruh... You are forgetting the fact that regardless of the year, there have always been high-end computer and poopy power computers. Thus even though lots of things would have been possible in 2010 also, obviously Jari did NOT have such a powerful computer. You are free to find out some 2010 Celeron laptop and see how rigging 1000 tracks at once works for you :DDD ...But I also think anyone using 1000 tracks at once is crazy!
Ok try to put a bunch of heavy plugins on hundreds of tracks and see how that works out. Don't get me wrong, he's probably not working as efficiently as he could and I'm also questioning if I can even hear all those tracks, but it makes sense that the computer will not handle it at some point. I've been recording guitar for a while as well and some plugins can eat a lot of resources.
Lots of fluff on this album. Maybe 15-17 mins or real music. The rest is just long intros, outtros, sound effects and the same riff over and over. Very little transitions here as they have done in the past. I'm bored with it after my 4th listen. Much more basic versions of stuff we have heard before. The muscianship is amazing and the solos are incredible. But the meat and bones of the song structures are weak overall. Nothing will ever match their flawless debut. Jari knows how to take an EP worth of old music, fluff it up and put it out as Time II. Still a fan, just calling it what it is.
