From the top of my head I would choose: Amorphis - „Tales from the thousand lakes“ Darkthrone - „Ravishing grimness“ Lake of tears - „Headstones“ Beth Hart - „My California“ Jethro Tull - „Roots to branches“ King Crimson - „In wake of Poseidon“ Frank Sinatra - „Cycles“ Tom Waits - „The heart of saturday night“ Tiamat - „A deeper kind of slumber“ Pink Floyd - „The division bell“ As always it’s pretty hard to choose only 10 albums, but life is tough sometimes 😉 Enjoy the rest of the weekend
"Scenes", from Marty Friedman. A beautiful selection of atmospheric soundscapes that is essential listening for starlit nightfall and incoming Winter. No Megadeth here, this is a wonderful instrumental album that depicts snowlaced mountaintops, exotic landscapes and scenes outta the movies in your mind. Nocturnal feelings all round. From opener 'Tibet''s swooshing and whisping chimes leading into "Angel"s melodic beauty, or 'Valley of Etrernity's soaring soloing from clouds above, its a wonderful album that, is actually my personal favourite thing Marty ever did. And yes indeed, that includes his work on Rust In Peace.
80s pop is something truly special. So many great songs/albums from back then. I have never heard Woods of Ypres but I love Doom metal so I will definitely check them out
Finnish metal bands and winter have always gone hand in hand. My favorite winter albums: Wintersun - Wintersun Basically all the Amorphis and Imsomnium albums Children of Bodom - Hatebreeder and Follow the Reaper
Hi...hot sun for october here in France too...I had the same reaction with almost the same words a few days ago !!!...hey...to me you speak with your heart, this is why I follow you since your 1st channel...I'm always curious about the scope of your music tastes...for me too Nick Cave is an autumn... winter artist...the Cure too...guess their next album is on your radar 1st november...it's gonna be a hell of a dark monolith...Robert has something profond to say ...and there's already 5 stars reviews ...
My Dying Bride's Turn Loose the Swans is very wintry wilderness in its atmosphere. I love it on a dark night. I'm going to take it off rotation so I feel the benefit when it gets cold 😉
Type O Negative: World coming down Blind Guardian: Imaginations from the other side Darkthrone: A Blaze in the Northern Sky Enslaved: Below the lights Voivod: Roarrrrrrrrrrr
Great list mate. I don't have top 10 ones but probably the two albums that have that winter feel are Neurosis's "The Eye of Every Storm" and Panopticon's "The Rime of Memory". Gonna go and listen to some Bloody Kisses, didn't hear any type o in a long time, thanks for reminding me of it.
In the woods- Cease the day Der weg einer freiheit- Finisterre Fit for an autopsy- Absolute hope absolute hell Evadne- The pale light of the fireflies Enterprise earth- Luciferous Metallica- Ride the lightning Immortal- Sons of northern darkness These are my picks for the winter. I like your list, there are artists I should check out. I also love Depeche Mode, it was surprising to see that pick.
It was a toss-up between Sons of Northern Darkness and In the Nightside Eclipse and Emperor is what I was jamming over those past few weeks so it got in. Love Immortal as well though 🤘
Couldn't break mine down in to a top 10 - might just be able to do a top 10 of what I have listened to in the last week! Love anything by Cheslea Wolfe and Depeche Mode, though and anything by Ihsahn Emperor is always a must (looking forward to them at Bloodstock). Surprised you didn't have the greatest doom album of all time - Watching from a Distance by Warning - in your list. It is such a great album and encompasses the bleakness of winter on a frozen, cold and misty morning so well. I'd also say Weather Systems by Anathema feels like an album that embodies winter and Opus Eponymous by Ghost for the spookiness.
Glad you agreed with my choices for Chelsea Wolfe, Depeche Mode and Emperor. I nearly went with Ihsahn's Arktis but settled on Emperor instead. The other albums you mentioned are all fantastic but I decided on 10 and the other albums I listed were just what resonated with me at the time
Nice! For me, Winter albums is a no brainer - early 90s black metal! The "coldest" sounding ones: Filosofem (Burzum), Those of the Unlight (Marduk), Stormblast (Dimmu Birgir), From the Pagan Vastlands (early Behemoth), Bergtatt (Ulver).
Hushed n Grimm by Mastodon Blackwater park by Opeth The Mantle by Agaloch Train of Thought by Dream Theater Absolute Everywhere by Blood Incantation Grace By Jeff Buckley Great to hear your dulcet Bristolian but very dry witted tones again mate, keep up the excellent work
Guys I recommend '100th Window' by Massive attack, that is my go to winter album, definitely nowhere near as popular as Mezzanine, but it does it for me.
For me, I can't listen to Type O Negative's "Bloody Kisses" album without following up with "October Rust" right after....They seem to be a Volume I & Volume II journey....kinda like watching the Godfather Part I and Part II....those two albums are THAT wonderful, but that's just me.
Absolutely no link to winter or colder weather at all as per content, but... Cowboys from Hell will forever be my winter album. I was 14/15 and just discovering metal and, although I wanted Vulgar Display... I couldn't afford the CD so decided to splurge on the cheaper tape version of CFH. Just thinking about it takes me back to trudging up the hill in the cold at 1am after pot-washing in a local pub on New Years Eve. Back when the world was simpler and you couldn't carry tapes around with you so an album would stay in your Walkman for days and you knew it inside out...
for me ..., Pink Floyd Animals , Neil Young Unplugged , Black Sabbath debut , NIN Downward Spiral , Portishead Dummy , Judas Priest Stained Class , Nick Drake Pink Moon , Spirit Adrift Ghost At The Gallows , Simon and Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water , and .., Soundtrack From Twin Peaks ...,
Post-rock is my go-to winter genre for sulking and depression 😂 Although I have listened to too much post-rock over the years, one band comes to my mind every time - April Rain. Their song - One is Glad to Be of Service - is a great track to cry to. It is dedicated to Robin Williams.
Agalloch And summoning never get played in nice weather . They are out now ..( also raison detre to really cheer me up .).. . Probably till April in sunny Yorkshire 😂 great video

As you've asked though, I was a little underwhelmed with a lot of it but there were some great tracks. Hetfield sounded amazing though both vocally and on guitar. Robert was also great but Kirks solos were very underwhelming and Lars just doesn't seem to test himself at all. I still love the band though
Nuerosis are an amazing band one of my favorite bands and Scott Kellys work with Mastodon is also amazing shame he turned out to be a dirt bag. I have never listened to Chelsea Wolfe Nick Cave or Shrine Builder ill definitely check out these albums cheers. Also never trust anyone who doesnt love a bit of 80s pop music fuck em 😅
A real shame about Scott Kelly. Inexcusable behaviour. Let me know how you get on with Wolfe, Cave and Shrinebuilder. NEVER trust anyone who doesn't like 80s pop 🤣
Great idea for a video man. You’ve sold me on Asphyx and Chelsea Wolfe - hadn’t checked these out before. One cold, wintery-sounding band I love is the dark wave outfit Lycia (who ironically hail from Arizona, one of the hottest places on Earth). I heard Peter Steele mention them a bunch as a big inspiration on Type O’s lush yet gloomy October Rust, and they blew me away. Utterly devastating, yet beautiful sounds. I can only really listen to them in the winter. The Burning Circle and then Dust is probably my fav album from them.
I never understood the elitest rubbish. Is Damageplan more metal than Nick Cave? Sure but I know which artist I'd rather listen to. Some great picks in there Ben. Some of my choices: Agnes Obel - Aventine Portishead - Portishead Paradise Lost - Host Tom Waits - Blood Money Scott Walker - Tilt
