Long rant incoming. "But why would yo...". Again, because I can. Obviously I knew of the band since they were formed in Finland, because I am from Finland. I hated how Tarja (original singer) sounded, because I was a young c_nt only listening to Metallica, Slayer etc. It wasn't metal enough, so that means I can't listen to something like that. Then we come to the Anette era. I never understood why they went with her (although both of the Anette albums are insanely good). Again as young metal head full of piss and vinegar I thought I had a right to comment on this matter. I wasn't even listening to the band. So again, being a c_nt. At this point I had completely lost track on anything Nightwish related. Then we come to 2018. A friend of mine had two tickets to a show in Hartwall Arena, in Helsinki. He wanted me to join him, so I was like. Fine, whatever. I did not know about Floor. The first song kicked in, my jaw dropped. I could not take my eyes off from the stage. I think I asked couple of times; "Who the f_ck is that?". There's been few times, when something changes in you in a molecular level, I think. To me it was Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power (greatest band ever, to me), the band Jinjer and that specific evening spent with Nightwish. And that is all because of Floor Jansen. To me, at least, she was the missing link. And how they got there (Please Learn The Setlist in 48 hours)... what a story. Holy crap. I am currently a massive fan of this band. I still can not listen to Tarja live, I think Anette live sounds like when you visit a neighborhood pub having a "karaoke evening" on a Friday night, but I can listen and enjoy every single album recording. I can appreciate the art that Tuomas and the band creates. End of rant. Till next time.
Floor is a jaw dropper!! That happened to me too, when I rediscovered Nightwish at November 2018. I saw Ever Dream Wacken 2013 on youtube. I could not believe what I was seeing and hearing!! Magical, live changing moment for me.
Great post. All I have to say that I'm a c*nt too. Couldn't really connect until Floor joined, for me,that's when the magic really kicked in even though the albums pre-Floor are great, I prefer the live versions of those songs with Floor.
Hi! I just wanted to say I enjoyed your thoughts and humor about your youth and how you felt about symphonic metal! I also l9ved hearing h9w you felt seeing and hearing Floor! Thank you for sharing!!
L9ve your review! You have a humor I really enjoyed this and how you shared the band members thoughts! I'm subscr8bed now! Thanks! I love the album and have great headphones so they sound lovely!
I like the laidback (pun intended) attitude of this review. I have fully immersed myself in the beautiful scenery in the background 😂 I am about to listen to the album too, tho I am not a big Nightwish fan either.
Have you heard the album petrodragonic apocalypse by king gizzard and the lizard wizard? It’s a metal album that dropped last year which RIPS. The whole thing flows together and it tells a fantastic story . They’re such a talented band, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!
Great review dude! Pretty much on point regarding how I felt about this album after listening to it 3 times (after 3 listens, that's when I give my initial review/rating). I think 'Yesterwynde' is the best Nightwish album featuring Floor Jansen. I honestly enjoy 'Dark Passion Play' and 'Imaginaerum', 'Oceanborn' and 'Once' more. Largely because the core sound (guitars, drums) stands out a bit more and there's more expression to those instruments (in my opinion). However, Nightwish's evolution in sound is interesting. Each era of Nightwish has a good amount of music to offer and never sounds one in the same. As far as symphonic metal goes, EPICA is my favorite because they explore heavier territories (some good death metal growls contrasting beautifully with Simone's amazing clean and operatic vocals) allowing more breathing room for the guitars and drums. The orchestral arrangements in Epica's music to me are more balanced (not so over the top) where often times is more supportive than it is upfront. Anyway, it's nice to expand the music pallette checking out other styles of metal. Great review man!
I have been getting into the band, and I am digging their material. I'm looking forward to discovering this album. I would also be thinking the band is and always will be Nightwish, no matter what the line-up changes were since the music is what matters the most. It's the same thing for many bands and I do like the band a lot.
I've not heard too much of their discography but I have very much enjoyed what I have heard. I think you will enjoy this one Greg. A very good album in my opinion 🤘
Good review..I do not usually listenen to reviews. There has been always complains about NW releases. That happen already with album ’Once’, many stated that songs after 4 were totally scrap. That time there were naturally much less forums to complain. Same continued with Dark Passion Play. Many ’old timers’ just could not get over Tarja topic. As well as with Imagerium. EFMB was again told to be bad stuff with poor mixing. And so on. Tuomas & gang are making music according to their vision. Mixing is not bad…it is exactly what it is supposed to be. They are part of symphony not over it. That is the main difference to other bands in the genre. As well as much better songwriting. I got the feeling many would like Tuomas to write ’Ever Dream’ again and again. But he is not repeating past, he moves on. This record is not currently my number 1 for the year. But I also know this probably will be the best of 2024 after 10 years. I have to admit I was not the happiest with Imagerium when it was released. Currently I conseder it as 100- rated album. Keep it up. This was a good review.
Have you listened to Epica? Symphonic metal but with both clean and harsh vocals. They also have some very melodic passages and brutal breakdowns with blast beats.
@@KiroProstotoI’m not sure better but they are up there with the very best symphonic metal bands around. There soloist Simone Simon’s has also recently released an album in collaboration with Arjen Lucassen ( Ayreon) which has such beautiful pieces.
You're a crack up haha... Is there any chance we can get an album review of Petrodragonic Apocalypse from King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard ? After all, you were the one that got me onto the "Infest The Rats Nest" album back in the day. 🫡
I very much doubt it I'm afraid. Reviews of older albums don't often get many views and as each video takes a lot of work I would be best putting my energy elsewhere unfortunately
Great review. Some hilarious lines in there. Looking forward to the next one already.
Cheers bro. I did what I could understand the circumstances 😂
This is the album of the year to me! Massive!

Absolutely amazing voice and a true presence
Positive energies and powers to Floor on her recovering from these challenges 🙏 a gift of an album is finally here, for humanitys benefit.

Walking in your apartment review 😂. I too am not too much a fan of Symphonic metal but Nightwish is good. Floor is a great vocalist.
Did what I could with circumstances. Really enjoyed this album
@@ThatMetalBloke you almost chilled on a couch like me lol
I’ll be honest I tailed off from Nightwish after Tarja left. But you have inspired me to give this album a go
Floor Jansen is incredible. Her voice is what sold me on the band
ps I have that Lynch on Lynch book as well
Great book. Great films. Great director
Its good album even if not their best.
I enjoyed it a lot. A bit bloated in places but overall a great piece of work 🤘
